Oikawa, first match against Karasuno:
Oikawa, second match against Karasuno:
That’s basically the new Hinata and Kageyama’s Oddball Quick! So my Dear Oikawa, you had the same pin-point accuracy in this set-up. Yes.
Aoba Johsai Coach, First Match Against Karasuno:
Aoba Johsai Coach, after the Oikawa’s Crazy Long Fast in second match:
Even Our Coach Ukai is impressed by Oikawa’s Talent!
And here you can see how the ball stops in the right place of the hand’s spiker. Yes, that’s totally the oddball quick.
He could have just put a free ball in the other court, BUT NO. HE WANTED TO TOSS AN INCREDIBLY HARD AND VERY ACCURATE TOSS ‘CAUSE HE KNEW HE COULD DO IT (without making mistakes because there was the match point for Karasuno.).
Again Oikawa, first match against Karasuno:
Oikawa, Second Match Against Karasuno:
“Oikawa san’s really changed lately, huh…?”
- Yahaba Shigeru during the time out of the second match.
He has finally understood that he had to stop thinking that he doesn’t have enough talent, that he isn’t a Genius, that he isn’t enough how he did until now. Maybe this is why he found the courage of believe in that dangerous toss in a such dangerous situation.
“My volleyball career is far from over!”
Oikawa from now on will continue to practice and become better and better not for the fear of being surpassed ( he accepted the fact that Kageyama could surpass him one day) or for his Obsession against Geniuses, but because he believes in himself, in his capabilities, in the day his talent will finally bloom (for me, this chapter is the prove his true talent started to bloom, and this thanks to his “good sense” that he has honed until now! ). Oikawa didn’t win the match, but he did win a more important thing: The new confidence in himself.
- “My kouhai isn’t very bright and is nowhere near to my level yet, but even so, now that he’s no longer alone, he’s strong”
In this manga I don’t think there are really Geniuses. Even Miya Atsumu, the best setter in High School in Japan, isn’t a Genius. In this manga there are only characters that work really hard their butts and become strong. I hope Oikawa will understand one day that both Ushijima and Kageyama really work hard: especially Kageyama doesn’t know what is a day of rest. He believes is a waste! Kageyama has the same volleyball’s obsession of Hinata!
You can have a lot of talent, it’s useless without work. You can don’t have any talent: nobody borns skilled. You have to work to become that. To become the strongest player you don’t have to be different, you have to make you strong. Maybe he has understood this.
In the past, someone talked to him about an hard choice to make. A choice he didn’t totally understand then: the easiest was “stop and complain about not being a Genius”; the hardest was “accepting that and continue on straight ahead”.
We know Oikawa. We know his talent, his courange, his determination.
And we also know what is the only choice that this amazing character could have made:
I’m so proud of this guy.
I’m sure Furudate sensei loves this character and wanted to give him a great ending with the dialogue with Ushijima and the Seijoh extra. Maybe with his great development wanted to teach us something:
“Do you want something? Complain is useless, Work! You can complain when you will reach the limits of your abilities. But you wanna know something? There are no limits in your abilities”.
