one more deranged post before we find out once and for all if we're fucking crazy or not but why did the two infamous not-byler scenes of vol2 and the finale (will coming out and "best friends") DIRECTLY parrallel conversations mike and will had previously (rain fight and their convo in will's room in lenora). as if these, too, are just altered reconstructions of mike's memories, specifically of times that he danced around feelings and missed opportunities to have an honest conversation with will... and then in the end he ends up left behind and conforming to this very out of character, heteronormative life where he's the only one who can't move on -- while will's painting and art binder are in his college room and he's imagining will off with a college bf who looks.... suspisciously like himself. am i onto something here. is this anything.
coming out parallels because will does not say "im gay" he says "i dont like girls" as in "it's not my fault you don't like girls"

It's really telling that the only arguments against conformitygate are:
"The Duffers aren't smart enough" when they aren't the only people who worked on this show, and a shit ton of the hints come from areas of the show they wouldn't have personally done themselves.
"Netflix wouldn't waste money on something for a small group of superfans" like pull off a 'fake-out ending there another episode' wouldn't be a cultural phenomenon that everyone would be talking about.
"It's just doesn't work like that" you know what 'doesn't work like that'? All the PR decisions they've made since the finale dropped. Letting the Duffers highlight just how much none of it made any sense, offical channels posting the big moments on social media with no spoiler warning the same day the episode aired. You just don't do any of that unless if there's something else going on.
also not to add fuel to the fire but,, it took way less noise and less than a day for cutgate to get shut down by someone from cast/crew. conformitygate has been 5 straight days, made it across tiktok/insta/tumblr/facebook/twitter, mentioned in news sites, and not only has nobody shut it down, but official netflix/st accounts as well as main cast members continue to post and share things that are kinda cryptic ?? but also w a healthy amount of plausible deniability???
idk i'm usually skeptical about things like this why are u guys lowkey converting me 😭
i'm not sure if i can 100% believe a secret finale is coming, but for the sake of playing around with it bc it would be a better canon... hypothetically if the finale is a vecna mind prison and if it is mike's prison specifically starting from when he spotted vecna at the open of vol2 - wouldn't that explain why mike becomes so sidelined? we all know mike wants to be needed, wants to protect others and be a part of things. so why, suddenly, is he trapped at the edges hardly able to contribute (besides the bomb we never actually see him build... the bomb that kills el????)
Look, it’s a weird hill to die on, especially when I don’t really explain, but children deserve to experience fear, disgust, and discomfort in safe scenarios where they can process those sensations.
Media for children used to be scary and that’s important.
medieval lit is really fun. there will be a footnote that is like “nobody knows what the author meant there and scholars have been debating it for centuries”
translator’s note: we have no clue bro
translator’s note: we’re sure this was hilarious in 12th century Somerset
translator’s note: again, we’re sure the scribe was the funniest guy in Plantagenet England and was getting all the tavern wenches but we can’t for the life of us figure out what he was talking about

sorry for being annoying [remembers that practicing gratitude instead of shame is better for my mental health and my relationships] thank you for letting me be annoying with you
worst part of anxiety/ocd is that sometimes your fears actually do happen and you have to wag your finger at i like this still doesn't prove you're right asshole. it's like having a venom symbiote except you don't even get to have gay alien sex

i hate how jim hopper is such a well-written, compelling character in the first two seasons of stranger things, how we watch him journey from this lazy, indifferent cop who it turns out is struggling with grief and sort of just numbing the pain, to someone who sees this woman on the verge of losing her kid and he's going to help her, someone he sees himself in when she starts falling apart, and he fights to bring that kid back in the end, and maybe in the process bring himself back.
and then he takes in el, and he has a chance at fatherhood again, and the two of them have a rough relationship that's very reminiscent of a lot of tense tween/parent relationships but then you factor in superpowers and both of their traumas (him being afraid of losing her after losing his first kid, her feeling locked up and lied to and controlled like in the lab), and the two of them have to learn how to communicate, and he has to learn how to handle his anger and his fear. and at the end of season two, he has that conversation with her in the car before they go to shut the gate that is just. so good. he's vulnerable and communicative and owns up to his issues and it's one of my favourite scenes in the whole show.
and then season three starts and that hopper is gone.
instead of the hopper we just followed through two seasons of amazing character growth, we get this arrogant douchebag parody of an 80s action hero who's 1000x worse than hopper was at the beginning of the show. he goes from being the hopper who had the conversation with el at the end of season two, a very clear heart-to-heart, to not knowing how to have the barest semblance of an emotionally intelligent conversation.
before, his anger was taken seriously and had consequences and was something he had to work through, something he eventually realized came from a place of fear. in season three, it's played for laughs. like oh ha ha isn't it funny that he's so violent and angry and rude ha ha don't you just want to laugh that this complex character has been reduced to violent angry action hero man! look he's wearing funny shirts and he's mean and scary to mike like an overbearing father from an 80s movie isn't that so funny! isn't it funny when he ignores joyce's boundaries, negs her, and doesn't take her concerns seriously despite her suspicions being proven completely right before? see look they're like your classic arguing-as-banter couple from the 80s! nevermind that they used to respect and support each other and the so-called-banter is just him being a jerk. it's funny! laugh!
the hopper who respected joyce's boundaries the season before and was patiently there for her through everything, not openly upset or jealous or rude because she was with bob, the hopper who WAS THERE when bob died and would KNOW the kind of trauma and grief joyce is battling, is now replaced by a hopper who's pushy and angry when she's not ready to jump into a relationship with him yet.
like. that's simply not the same jim hopper. there are other characters who have gone through smaller changes between seasons that you could chalk up to differing environments and vibes for the season and growing up and getting to know them better. but with hopper, that's not a few new personality quirks that's a whole personality transplant.
the only way I can like him as a character after that season is by pretending he got some kind of upside down brain worm that altered his personality but then it died in the russian prison and that's why he's back to normal in season four. i just hate that the writers decided to sacrifice his character for the sake of comedy and "80s nostalgia" in season three, and that what was a well-written character will always be tainted by that choice.
