Polycules should be able to trade people like sports teams do
Reasons to boycott Nolan's The Odyssey (that I know of so far):
They shot in the illegally occupied Western Sahara as reported by Middle East Eye (thanks to @fuckyeahdavidandyonatan for bringing that up)
They dumped their props into a protected area of the Italian sea after shooting (thanks to @godslop for finding the article in English)
Zendaya wearing looted 3000 years old Iranian earrings for the premiere of the movie + having her stylist fly on a private jet just to get her a dress for the premiere in London
No Greek actors in a movie about Greek heritage
While people mentioned that Anne Hathaway was flown in to the set every day, apparently it was not on a private jet but on a helicopter that was being used anyway to fly in equipment.
None of these things are new in Hollywood or exclusive to the Odyssey, its director or its actors, but I do think we as audience should start holding Hollywood accountable when it disrespects our culture, heritage, environment, especially when it's movies that are this big and have a huge budged that would allow for more conscious choices.
Please do add anything else I missed.
youtube with ublock origin experience of the 20 second gap between every video on a playlist where youtube desperately throws itself against the impervious ever-evolving uncaring face of the adblocker's wall screaming and clawing and calling PLEASE! PLEASE, OUR AD REVENUE!! DON'T YOU WANT TO SUPPORT THIS CREATOR? DO YOU NOT CARE ABOUT OUR WALLETS? AND THEIRS? into the vast and empty sky before the adblocker gently raises one of its many iron-banded arms and flicks youtube away into the void just to hear its wails fade slowly into nothing

Ahmed and his family have been verified by @90-ghost for a long time now. Still, in the face of inflated prices in Gaza, he struggles to collect enough money to purchase the simplest of things like milk and flour, which are now as much as $1,000 and $750 respectively.
Ahmed and his family are only trying to survive against the starvation that has taken all of Gaza by storm. Ahmed’s sister needs milk to feed her two small children, and Ahmed himself has even fainted from the hunger. Ahmed’s beloved cat has now died of hunger.
There is not enough food to go around. Those with food sell it at prices too steep for people in need to afford. Ahmed does not have much time. He and his family are already in critical condition from starvation and lack of shelter. He has already lost his cat, he cannot lose his family. He cannot lose his life.
Ahmed is able to accept donations at both of the below accounts. PayPal is more direct and will take fewer fees altogether, but if PayPal is not available to you we ask that you please donate to the GFM. It will get to him regardless of payment method. For other options, you can DM me or send an ask and I will make sure that the money gets to him.
My name is Tiffany, and though I live in the U.S. thousands of miles from Gaza, … Tiffany Dickenson needs your support for Help Ahmed Rebuil
Go to paypal.me/AhmedResh and type in the amount. Since it’s PayPal, it's easy and secure. Don’t have a PayPal account? No worries.
We are currently looking for around $2,000 as a short-term goal. We are already partway to this goal at $271. It is urgent that Ahmed gets this money as soon as possible.
Ahmed urgently needs $500 for his mother’s surgery on April 25th (in under 48 hours). I do not have the money myself. Anyone who can chip in, please send money directly to the PayPal linked above, as he will get the money sooner with fewer fees.

”it’s about queer joy” okay how does it treat women.
Something I think ppl who aren't used to it struggle with when it comes to ancient history is that frequently 'we do not and cannot know this' is the only truthful response a historian can give. People severely overestimate how much we actually know about Ancient Rome.
I remember talking to someone at a party once about the debate over Septimius Severus's ethnicity (whole other can of worms) and they asked if genetic testing of his remains was not a way to settle it and I was like oh. Oh okay you are under the impression we have the physical remains of Roman emperors from the second century AD alright then. (We. Do not.)
Can't stress how much of high level study of Ancient History is devoted to trying to make sense of what actually factually happened. When I was at university (10+ years ago now) the discipline was embroiled in the lengthy and ongoing process of trying to unpack not just the biases in ancient sources but the centuries & centuries of biases within the field itself. I don't imagine this process is ever going to Stop. It's not uncommon for historical accounts to be so garbled & contradictory that it's not possible to reconstruct the real events behind them.
Once in an introductory lecture one of my professors was talking about this problem and articulated it very simply as 'we know real things happened between real people, but we aren't sure what they were'. Sums it up really!!

the fact fandom as a whole can be built out of seperate yet overlapping “migratory” fanbases that move from canon to canon in search of specific itches being scratched is revelatory of the underlying emotional structures of fannish engagement for many people, which is fundamentally derivative in the sense that it is about obsession. it is about getting that same itch scratched over and over. like sex, or desire. it is about iterative desire in form or structure, as so much of fannish content is about desire. if it’s working on you you will never get tired of it and will always want more. if it isn’t it’s baffling how it could be doing it for anyone. it is basic to the enterprise in a way that means the criticisms that fandom is often derivative or unoriginal has always struck me as off-base on multiple levels. i also like fandom and fic as a ground for expansive creative exploration free of the demands of the wage, but that has never been what everyone is getting out of it, or the only thing i myself get out of it. and assuming it is, or should be, and these repetitions that are likely to strike those not in the loop of desire as dull undifferentiated slop are deviations from what could or should be a more noble intellectual pursuit is naive and means you will never really get anywhere in analyzing fandom.
idk if any teenagers follow me, but I think something you should keep in mind is that when adults are criticizing teenagers as a demographic, it's like
50% them displacing their own self-hatred and regrets about their own decisions at your age, and trying to retroactively yell at themselves by yelling at you. they aren't thinking about you as a person at all. they are thinking of you as a symbol of "youth" in the context of their own life.
50% them trying to socially reproduce adultist superiority to soothe their own ego. especially if they start falling back on things like "your brain isn't developed (and that's why I'm right and you're wrong!)." adults confronted with a young person standing up to them in any context often become reactively insecure and reach for anything that lets them feel righteous about telling you to shut up, no matter how dubious the claim. they're just bullying you to boost themselves up. they're being an asshole.
adults will act like they know you better than you know yourself. they don't. so genuinely, before you internalize any criticism an adult says, remember that most adults are primarily talking to and about themselves when they talk about teens. it is annoying. it's not your fault.
