I know you said on your other blog that you avoid interacting with certain types of people, how do you disengage with weird people? I feel like I have a beacon that attracts them to me and my older brother is autistic so my friends assume that I’m willing to give men similar to him a chance when in reality, I’m not, and it gets to be too much for me.
I tell people to their faces.
I don’t have endless patience; I’m not caring or maternal towards those that drain me; I don’t want atypical people to think that I’m some sort of soft landing for them; I don’t think everyone needs to be handled with immense care; and I advocate for myself. My boundaries aren’t going to be overstepped; I won’t be opening my life or inconveniencing myself for people who can’t reciprocate, and I have nothing in common with people who have no social lives, minimal social intelligence, and draining personalities.
People who grew up in environments where they were allowed and encouraged to advocate for themselves aren’t afraid to say no. I’m an adult; if I don’t want to be friends with someone, I can tell them. I don’t let myself be roped into hangouts, conversations, or anything more than the most basic of pleasantries because I know who I want to know and interact with at this point in my life, and that doesn’t involve people with social limitations or difficulties. There’s a way to be polite about it, and I would always recommend being polite to people, but you don’t need to be overly kind or fake for the sake of still seeming sweet. Clearly say no, disengage, and remove yourself from the conversation.
I also think that you need to prioritize yourself, your own desires, and your own mental health. No one should be tolerating abuse for the sake of satiating someone else’s needs, and it’s possible to sympathize with people and recognize their struggles but have firm boundaries around interacting with them. Tolerating dysfunction and/or abuse, trauma dumping, being expected to act as a caretaker, or being made uncomfortable doesn’t serve you. Nor does pretending you are some sort of empath and taking on roles you can’t handle or want to deal with or that burden you.
Part of becoming an adult is getting comfortable with telling people harsh truths. There’s obviously a way to go about this nicely, and I’d always encourage taking a nice stance instead of being cruel or hateful, but some people need to be told that they are burdening you, that what they’re telling you is inappropriate, or that you just don’t want to be friendly with them. You do have to have a certain level of tact, but if you know something isn’t sustainable, it’s better to say something at the very beginning than to wonder why you didn’t when you find yourself in way too deep.
You need to speak up for yourself, get better friends, and start prioritizing your mental health and safety.
Manifest every. Single. Day.
Visualise for even 17 seconds of who you want to be. Believe it. Act like it. Be consistent.
It’ll change your future.
Having a "stupider people have done this" attitude about the things you want to do can open so many doors
