Begins August 23, 2026 and will run until September 5, 2026

Rules/ What to Expect:

The event will be running for two weeks, with each prompt having two days to post (or work on if you're a procrastinator like me lol)

No word count limit/ restrictions, write how ever much or little you want

Traditional seven prompts with a "free space" prompt if you're not sure you can pull off one of the other ones

No One Hates The Royal Power Imbalance More Than Jinshi

Sometimes you have to live a lie in order to survive. Sometimes you're twelve years old and people are already talking about your potential bed partner. You need to do whatever it takes it keep yourself safe, because you don't want to be forced to sleep with someone for the sake of a role. You've never felt like yourself to begin with, so you're willing to do whatever it takes to escape it. A lie on top of a lie. Does that mean you're a bad person?

You have only ever known love and sex as politics and cages. You spend your teenage years watching women have no choice but to surrender themselves to the Emperor and day after day you deal with being sexually assaulted and harassed. You make mistakes, mistakes that haunt you as you get older. No one stopped you, you learned to stop yourself. In a world where everyone eggs you on to take, to do your "duty" you teach yourself to hold back, to look at the bigger picture.

Jinshi does not manipulate for nefarious reasons, he's disgusted in himself for using his face to get things done, but he'll do it if it means good for the nation. He looks back at his younger self and shudders in embarrassment. He sheds his false eunuch image and eventually grows past his boundary-crossing actions, and he stacks weight upon weight onto his shoulders because all he knows is to put himself at work for the state, for the sake of the empire.

Is one's desire to be free, to have control over one's body, wrong? Jinshi wants to be human, he wants to bridge the gap between him and others. He wants Basen to be casual with him, he wants Maomao to not have to fear about the broader implications of their relationship, he wants to be anything but a royal. He feels so uncomfortable in the skin of heaven he is willing to tear and burn it off, leave scars and scabs, all for his goal.

Some people seem to think Jinshi is selfish or that his path to personal autonomy illustrates a tendency for moral failings. I am never going to say he's perfect and completely selfless on that journey, but I hope people can see what Maomao eventually does, someone so caged, that he's close to getting squashed.

Maybe you all haven't lived lives where you've donned a false mask in order to forge your own path. I guess most people don't. Sometimes you have to repress parts of yourself to achieve that end goal, but that doesn't mean that you aren't constantly aching. Treated as a doll, as a stud horse, as a means to an end, as a second chance, as a pawn; anything but a person. How far are you willing to go for your sense of self? Jinshi could go so much further, but he doesn't. He cares far too much.

Jinshi has enough problems to deal with, but who would have thought that dreaming of life as a low-born commoner would be so enlightening? That is until he finds something he wants more than freedom.

He thought time was cruel, not knowing it was his longing that would not release him. He named it love, but it bound him tighter than chains. He then named it hatred, but it returned him all the same. And then when he no longer reached for her, nor pushed her away, the world finally loosened its hold on him. OR Jinshi learns through saṃsāra that nirvāṇa is not found at the end of the road, but at the moment he no longer walks it.

With Valentine's Day quickly approaching, Jinshi enlists on the help of Xiaolan to pick out the perfect present for Maomao.

Supposedly having animal features was a blessing. Granny and her sisters always say she was blessed with her mother's cunning mind, and sharp tongue. Maomao thinks she was cursed with her more feline features. at least the worst of them matched her hair and were easy enough to hide.

Moving out of the Rear palace may have provided Ah Duo with new freedom, but there are some things her heart cannot help but miss. Namely Lishu.

A Most Vile Hound for thelowlysatsuma

When a consort and a eunuch are killed inside the rear palace, an area of strict movement, in a manner to much like a curse Jinshi thinks it is a perfect way to convince the Emperor to allow Maomao back into his staff. He can not investigate inside of the rear palace as a prince, but she can, only more so with his authority backing her, and if she can find the culprit, find the murderer, she can return to work at the palace. Maomao loves the pleasure district, but it is far too tempting a deal, and all she has to do is solve a murder. All while they both try to ignore the the feelings and memories of things they thought of squarely in the past, especially as they complicate the feelings still blooming between them.
