Laika Wallace (she/he/it/sie) is a dog who died in space. No wait, that's just Laika. Laika Wallace is an Indigenous horse wo/man whose many ghosts haunt the streets of "Canada" creating poetry, fantasy & sci fi novels, music, and mixed media artwork.

hi, i’m laika wallace. i’m an author of middle grade to adult fantasy + sci fi. this blog mainly features my poetry, artwork, and photography. i am a young adult and enjoy crafts, painting, writing, and caring for my guinea pigs and snake. i use she/her, he/him, it/its, and sie/hir pronouns. and i’m an intersex femme bisexual two spirit wo/man. i’m mixed indigenous & white, and a reconstructionist jewish convert.

please do not repost my work without credit. if you would like to share something i’ve posted here or on my website, i prefer if you only share a link to the post/page, not a screenshot or otherwise copied image or text. but if you would like to repost something with credit back to one of my social media pages and/or my website, please feel free.

furthermore, if you wish to use any of my photos or poetry for edits, or reproduce them in a zine, etc, feel free, just please credit me. i would love to see anything you make!

Queer Books and Authors are at a Breaking Point

Authors, agents, publishers: every part of the industry is seeing the strain of five years of escalating anti-LGBTQ censorship.

if you'd like to show support, here are some upcoming queer books:

When Life Gives You Corpses is a brilliant YA about a cursed praying mantis who falls for a young witch. Yield Under Great Persuasion is a raunchy, but surprisingly sweet story about two men repairing their relationship. Fabulous Bodies is a horror story about a queer rockstar rising from the dead.

This is Where the Future Bleeds is a fantasy set in a vividly imagined land, where two women (who happen to kiss) are the key to healing the broken sky. You're No Better is a story about a teen struggling in the shadow of his murderous parent. Oil on Canvas is about a woman who finds disturbing paintings in the home of her dead mother.

and then here's a list of 26 queer books by Black authors set to publish this year, and a 10 upcoming books by trans authors. if you want to fight back against queer censorship, use your wallet! or (if that's not an option) you can contact your local library and ask them to stock a copy.

i was scared the trains would come alive and run me down

i ran in front of them, over their sleeping tracks

eager to climb inside and see their glowing false hearts

i wonder, did the whistle scream?

or did it come thundering down the track

quiet enough to make a sound?

i wanted to walk into the thrumming lines of electric light

i tiptoed across them, clutching the phone to my ear

giddy to solve the puzzle parts that would set me on fire
