I can imagine elves, born beneath the stars in a world of perpetual night, have a special love for bioluminescence.

Sources of bioluminescence is as varied throughout Arda as it is here, if not even more so! Everything from fungi to jellyfish to moss and algae and insects and fish and species that we can’t describe.

It was actually said in the Book of Lost Tales that Irmo’s garden contained glow worms like stars around the borders.

Fëanor among others also had an interest in bioluminescence and collected what samples he could in the deep woods of Oromë, pastures of Yavanna, and occasionally by the sea

Some Maiar communicate through movement and bioluminescence like fireflies and some elves learn to read the language of lights of these species.
