I WILL BE OPENING COMMISSIONS THIS FALL!
I'm about to take a sabbatical and as much as I wish I could get away with a full year with no work at all, I'd like to hold on to at least some of my savings, so I'll be taking character commissions again soonish. Probably starting in September, maybe November.
My commission info isn't up to date but you can still check out the old one in the meantime - I'll probably adjust prices a bit, maybe open up more than just busts, we'll see! If you want first pick when comms do open, feel free to send me an email ahead of time and I'll keep you in mind!
I turned 30 recently and I decided to celebrate all those years of drawing characters by revisiting some of my very first OCs! Up first is Dalia, who I believe I first came up with in 5th grade. She's from a distant planet and came to Earth with her uncle; she pretends to be a human to attend school and loves fashion. Her best friends are a bunch of other nonhuman creatures she met around town. They were gifted some necklaces that give them elemental magical powers, and they use them to fight various monsters. Aaaand that's as much lore as I got!
The palette is of course inspired by my child self's tool of choice:
ever since TLOV premiered I wanted to have a shot at a whole Vox Machina lineup, so I've been working on this on and off. i mixed all my favorite bits from their official designs (the campaign art, the comics and the tv show) and challenged myself to keep it simple enough for animation (although i ended up forgetting and putting too much detail in some places). also tried to give their designs a cohesive color scheme, mostly browns and blue.
yapping continues below!
Percy: included the extra glasses lenses, because they're truly iconic. his hair isn't totally white as a callback to his original portrait, and he also looks a lot more unkempt and tired, as I imagine Orthax is sicking nightmares on him constantly to feed his vengeful thoughts. he has his original two guns, the List and Bad News, and his spooky mask hanging on his belt.
Vex'ahlia: she and Vax look much more identical (i know they're fraternal twins but it's more fun this way!). Her makeup is inspired by Laura's from the cosplay opening and is meant to look a little messy, and she wears colors that are appropriate to hide in a forest, mostly browns and a green cloak. The striped shorts are a nod to the original design.
Grog: back to his actual giant height! i almost gave him black marks like he had in the OG art and the comic, but kept it blue to match with the rest of the group. His axe is tied to his wrist in a simplified version of the chain of returning, and he has the bag of holding on him.
Trinket: it's VERY important to me that Trinket look cute! I gave him one of Vex's feathers to link their designs, and he also has a little collar to show that he's tamed and not, you know. a brown bear on the lose in the city
Scanlan: his design intentionally has a lot less brown and blue than the others as a nod to his feelings of being set aside by the others. I almost kept his stupid puffy shorts from the original art, but it felt too ostentatious for the start of the story. I always loved his longer hair though so I kept that, and he has his flute, lute, and hand cone within reach.
Pike: Vax put her hair up in fun buns :) there's not much to say here except that I really wanted her body type/silhouette to show her physical strenght, and contrast with Scanlan's scrawny body.
Vax'ildan: his silhouette mirrors Vex's perfectly. He's wearing a pelt like hers, their capes have the same diagonal cut, and their boots are similar. Although he wears dark, he's not in full black yet. Simon is there of course :)
Keyleth: TALL and lanky as she used to be before they cowardly made her short! She wears more blue, the color of the Air Ashari, and some green, since she's already completed her earth trial, and she has airy cloth things to flow in the wind. Her design is mostly based on the comics and tv show, but i added the butterflies from her original portrait.
I've been working on a second version of the lineup, from the last episode, which includes every magic item they've gathered over the campaign (and also Tary). perhaps i'll complete it one day...
Over 10 years ago, while LoK was still airing, I drew Korra in each of her outfits. I recently found that post again, and thought I should revisit my old obsession, and add the outfits that were missing. This has been really fun, it was like meeting up with some old friends - both my younger self and Korra herself!
Thanks to everyone who encouraged me to finish this!! ♥ And hi to the people who were in the fandom with me back then, I'm waving at you from over here in the future :)
None of these are show-accurate, I thought it would be much more interesting to give each design a bit of a twist while keeping their original visual language. It was a really fun challenge, and I love comparing the old and new.
Some of these are a lot further into my own interpretation - the chains ghost, for example, is super bloodied because I'm not restricted by a TV network censor and the Zaheer fight was violent. And it left scars, too! The Raava fusion designs are extremely self-indulgent (Raava I love you, you will always be famous), and the kid designs are pretty far from the depictions of Korra in Friends for Life and Weaver's Ball, but I wanted to make them into a real evolution getting closer to the Book 1 design over time.
Here are the two full lineups side by side:
how far we've come...
Here are some line versions also! I had a lot of fun drawing all the little tiny details:
I once said that if I ever stop posting Korra redesigns, assume I'm dead. and well. I guess it's still true
im FINALLY done with Arzi's new ref sheet!! her campaign ended over a year ago and I kept putting this thing off but now it's done and I'm so happy with her new look
Arzirys is my paladin/cleric aasimar! They're a giant enby lesbian with too much love to give ♥
Oh yeah! I have a new dnd character! This is River, a genderfluid bard & celebrity pianist who adventures with their fae prince husband across the Shadowfell. River is a shadar-kae, a homebrew class that's basically the human equivalent to the shadar-kai.
they say there was once a Zonai who got a little bit too curious about dark magic... as punishment, the goddesses banished her and her people to the twilight realm.
silly little theory of mine - the Zonai could be the ancestors of the twili. have a zonai Midna (her ancestor??? idk) as a treat
