Confusion - Mitsukou Angst

1 2 ~ Avoidance

It's been a whole week since they stargazed.

And Mitsuba's been ignoring Kou.

Kou was bothered. Maybe it was because of the question he asked? 'I wish I never asked...' He thought.

How were they going to reconcile? Were they ever going to reconcile? These doubts raced across Kou's mind, making him feel more anxious about Mitsuba. He seems pretty relentless about ignoring him.

That's why he had Tsukasa ask him to meet by the shed where gardening tools were kept. Mitsuba surprisingly, agreed.

He leaned against the exterior, sighing and waiting. Kou had set his bag on the ground. 'Maybe he said yes just to not come.' Kou thought. Come to think of it, that sounded like something Mitsuba would do. Kou groaned, sitting on the ground.

A few more minutes passed by before he saw Mitsuba walking toward the shed. Kou waved him over.

"What do you want, Lame-Ass Traffic Earring?" Mitsuba asked. He sure looked pissed.

Kou sighed, standing up and looking Mitsuba in the eye. They were unreadable. "Did I do something wrong?"

Kou looked at his shoes, his face showing clear guilt. He waited for a response.

He looked back up. Mitsuba was just staring at him blankly.

"Mitsuba...?" Kou asked, looking concerned.

It happened in a flash. Kou felt Mitsuba tugging at his collar, yanking him forward.

He kissed him. Kou didn't process it at all.

Mitsuba let go. "WHY DO YOU HAVE TO BE SO DENSE?!" He yelled.

Kou was frozen in shock.

Mitsuba ran off on the verge of tears. 'THIS BITCH ASKS ME TO MEET UP WITH HIM WHEN IT'S SO OBVIOUS I LIKE HIM!! TO THE POINT WHERE I HATE THE FACT THAT IT'S OBVIOUS. HE'S SO DENSE!!' He was on the verge of screaming. 'WHY DID I EVEN AGREE TO COME HERE?!?!'

Kou just stood there, devastated. "Was that why...?" He said out loud.

Mitsuba liked him. And Kou hadn't realized at all. He felt so stupid.

(A/N) These chapters are pretty short, I know, but they get longer towards the end :3. I hope you had fun reading this one!

Confusion - Mitsukou Angst

1 ~ Stargazing 2

Mitsuba looked out the window, marveling at the stars. He was going to go to the rooftop and set everything up, but he saw the amount of people and went 'Oh, fuck no.', and decided to stay and watch the stars in the building since they were so beautiful.

He was just looking at them shimmer in the night sky when he heard footsteps coming in his direction.

"Lame-Ass Traffic Earring? What are you doing here," Mitsuba raised an eyebrow.

Kou handed him a goodie bag. "The real question is why you're here and not on the rooftop helping us," Kou shot back.

"There's too many fucking people up there. No way do I want to mingle with them fuglies." Mitsuba grumbled.

Kou frowned at him. "That's some messed up reasoning..." He murmured, sitting on the floor.

"No it isn't, you know I'm the cutest," Mitsuba did a peace sign next to his eye.

Kou's frown deepened. "Not this again-"

"WHAT DO YOU MEAN NOT THIS AGAIN?!" Mitsuba yelled.

"Lower your volume, we're still in the school building, you know idiot!" Kou exclaimed, looking up at Mitsuba.

Mitsuba pouted visibly. He begrudgingly sat down next to Kou and opened his goodie bag. It had two cookies in it, a star shaped one with yellow icing and a constellation cookie.

"Hey, do you know what this constellation is?" Mitsuba asked, showing his cookie to Kou.

Kou shrugged. "How am I supposed to know? Amane's the expert,"

"Okay, dumbass." Mitsuba took a bite.

"A- I said I didn't know ONE thing, Mitsuba." Kou said.

Mitsuba ignored him and continued to relish his cookie. Kou decided to open his bag and eat his cookies too. They ate in silence.

Mitsuba didn't like this silence, however. He didn't like the direction this conversation went and will go. Especially since their conversations have been less banter and more actual conversation. He didn't like that.

He finished his constellation cookie and blankly stared at the star one, thinking.

"Mitsuba!" Kou shook Mitsuba's shoulder. He looked up at the windows.

Streaks of light beautifully raced across the moonlit night sky. Mitsuba watched in amazement. He glanced over at Kou, who seemed to be just as starstruck as him. He saw the reflection of the little flashes across his eyes and smiled.

Kou looked back over at Mitsuba. "They're pretty aren't they," he said, grinning.

Mitsuba looked away from Kou, technically caught staring. He didn't know how to feel about the butterflies in his stomach. But he did know how to feel about the blush on his face. Mitsuba despised that his feelings showed on his face.

"Yeah, Minamoto-Kun." He mumbled.

They were quiet for a few moments until Mitsuba spoke up louder. "Not as pretty as me though,"

"MITSUBA," Kou yelled, annoyed. "Just look at the fucking stars alright?" he turned Mitsuba's head to face the windows.

Mitsuba swatted his hands away, but obliged and looked at the shooting stars.

After a few more minutes, Kou calls out for him. "Mitsuba?"

"What?" Mitsuba said, turning to look at Kou. He had taken the last bite of his star shaped cookie and had small crumbs on his lip.

"What would you do..." Kou looked away, unable to keep eye contact.

"If I died?"

Mitsuba just stared at him cluelessly for a moment. "What."

"What would you do if I died?" Kou looked at Mitsuba again.

Mitsuba paused for a moment. He didn't want this conversation to go just like the recent ones they had. "I'd make sure you weren't wearing that ugly-ass earring of yours. I'd yeet it into a nearby lake."

It was now Kou's turn to just stare at him. "I'm being honest, idiot! What would you do if I died?" Kou now glared at Mitsuba.

"I'd make sure you weren't wearing that earring." Mitsuba shrugged casually, though the question jarred and even scared a part of him. He hid it quite well.

Kou sighed. "You're insufferable."

"That's because you can't see the fact that I'm cute."

summer hikaru died fucks me up everytime i think about it because the idea of learning to love yourself not through a sense of self worth, but by realising someone more monsterous than you view yourself is still beautiful and worthy of love messes with me.

you don't need to learn to view yourself as normal, or see yourself as a typical part of society. you don't even need to stop seeing yourself as a monster. you only need to realise that monsters are truly, undeniably beautiful. and if you can love a monster, then the world can love you regardless of what you are.

its not a story about coming to terms with being a good person or being normal. its a story of accepting the beauty in your horrible parts, learning to love yourself away from the norm
