As an American, I can tell you this is true. Recently had a tornado warning and me and my family just sat on the porch. Got some beautiful photos of the sky tho:

Things I am learning as I get ready to sell my house #3:

Somehow things I clearly managed to lug up to the second story twenty years ago have gotten much, much heavier now that they are supposed to go back down.

#i now see why someone would want a house where the front door opens directly onto the staircase #if i could just start a few things off knowing they'd continue right out the door at the bottom it would be much easier

Context: reading fics where my job is used as a porn premise, and I find it very funny because I cannot imagine being horny under such circumstances.

#not anymore but i used to be a front desk clerk at a hotel in my 20s #and let me tell you a whole lot of guys think front desk clerk = sex worker #especially the businessmen who were regulars #this was in the late 80s so I don't know if it's the same now #one guy showed me a picture of his wife and kids on his second stay and then on his third asked me to go to a movie with him #and several guys tried to lure me up to their room under the premise of needing towels #they said..i can wait...why don't you come up after your shift...#and i would say i'm not allowed to do that but you can come down to the lobby to get some towels #and suddenly they didn't need towels anymore #this was when i worked the 3pm to 11pm shift #the housekeepers must just be getting constantly harassed because they are supposed to take towels to the rooms...

Things I am learning as I get ready to sell my house #2:

I am terrible at painting the walls. Well...the wall part is OK, but where the wall meets the ceiling and the trim is just... uh... not good. (I'm usually a very neat person, but with paint I'm sloppy. That's all there is to it.)

I find that I am, however, great at cleaning and sealing grout!

#Now that the walls are nice and shiny the trim looks really old #i don't want to paint the trim. That looks even harder than regular painting!!!#When I get a realtor she's probably going to say: first thing: hire a professional to paint the entire interior.

Things I am learning as I get ready to sell my house:

-Apparently the counter top tile grout should have been resealed approximately 27 times by now.

Ahem.

#it still looks pretty damn good!#and whoever buys is probably going to get a new countertop anyway because tile is “dated”#so maybe it doesn't really matter #but I have to make it looks as shiny and pretty as possible so here i go to the store to buy grout resealer!!!#this old house...me edition

OK, this is not meant as advice because I think it can permanently damage your sink, BUT....

For years. Decades. DECADES!! I have been trying to get a hard water stain off of the little soap indentation in my powder room sink. I've tried all the vinegars and lemon juice and baking soda and ammonia and Lime Away and letting the cleaners sit for various amounts of time and every little hint from the internet I've ever been able to find. NOthing. Not the slightest dent.

We're probably going to be moving this year and I was to the point of "Do we have to get a new sink???" because this is the kind of aesthetic thing that people seem to balk at even though there's no actual diminishment in the functionality of the sink and they won't buy our house with this stain on the top of the powder room sink???

So finally in a wild there's nothing to lose at this point so why the hell not??? moment, I got some sandpaper from my paint supplies in the garage.

Came right off. Good as new. Maybe one minute of not very difficult work and the sink looks like it did 28 years ago.

#should i feel relief and joy or extreme frustration over all the effort I've put in over the last 2 decades?#all the cleaners I've tried...some of which are a little bit toxic!#just find grit sandpaper I already had #again....don't do this as a first attempt to get rid of hard water stains!!! don't sue me if you scratch the hell out of your sink!!!

assume it doesn’t know you (unless it’s actually a specific animal you’ve met) and that it’s normal for its species and would do whatever was natural for it. including being too giant for and destroying the room it’s in. as well as dying immediately if its environment can’t support its life

#i haven't put away my decoration yet so am sandwiched between the two reindeer stocking holders in front of me #and the polar bear ornament on the tree behind me #so pretty much screwed #unless just maybe that little bluebird on the tree is a smidgeon closer to me than either of the others in which case no worries
