As we research how breast cancer affects our fellow mujeres it breaks our heart seeing the statistics. There is so much that goes into the stats which are other important issues we face in our Latino community.  

An organization that aims to create equitable access to health and the healthcare system for the Latino community around issues of cancer and cancer prevention is @latinascontracancer.

We need to do better and make sure that we are educating people on the dangers of breast cancer as well as the prevention.

Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead)

Day of the Dead is a 2-day celebration where it is believed that the passageway between the real world and the spirit world is open so our deceased loved ones can come back to visit us.

It is said that on November 1st the children who have passed come back to visit and celebrate as angelitos and on the following day, November 2nd, it’s the adults (Difuntos) turn to show up for the festivities.Family members prepare for several weeks in advance for the tradition by creating altars, decorating burial sites, and cooking specific Day of the Dead food.

Felícitas and Gonzalo Méndez are unsung heroes in the LatinX community. They helped lead an educational battle against segregated schools in California. Thanks to their efforts and the efforts of others, we have access to educational opportunities here in the United States.  Westminster v. Mendez helped the Brown v. Board of Education, Supreme Court decision that ruled the segregation of public schools unconstitutional seven years later.  

 We need to keep sharing stories like these, stories that tell our history that teaches us about perseverance, acceptance and the celebration of differences. It is our responsibility to continue sharing their story and all they did for the LatinX community.

Attacks and Murders of Street Vendors   

These horrific attacks that are happening in the LatinX community deserve to get more recognition from all sources of media. It is important that we continue to educate our community as well as other communities.

Mi gente SPEAK UP! Enough is enough we are tired of hearing these crimes against the people in our community.

Es con mucho mucho amor that we wish you a Happy Pride Month ⁣

⁣Marsha P. Johnson (left) a black, transgender woman and Sylvia Rivera (right) a Puerto Rican,  transgender woman, along with many others fought and paved the way for LGBTQ Movement. ⁣

Both advocated on behalf of homeless street youth excluded for not conforming to traditional ideas about gender. Since then there has been great progression but the work is never done. We, Las Chicas Del Barrio will continue to use our voices and actions to help aid in making a difference for the future. We ask you to further educate yourself on the importance in Pride. ⁣
