Some F-Zero doodles from a few months back.
I suppose itās time to finally post this here.Ā Some months back I acquired a bunch of F-Zero X guide books, in hopes of finding either rare art or high quality versions of Takaya Imamuraās work. I hit the jackpot with the F-ZERO X Kouryaku Taizen Guide, which had all of his character art that was used in game, including the machine illustrations. Hope fans of the series enjoy these, I know some arenāt the best quality but Iād say itās the clearest this art has ever been. Kinnikuman 40th AnniversaryĀ āStop Videoā.
Kinnikuman Day 2019 I was in the mood to draw more obscure characters from the series so I picked the two guys who unintentionally kicked off Kinnikumanās path into becoming a legendary wrestling manga. Moko-seijin and Abdullah, two monsters who challenged Suguru and Terry to prove monsters were superior to Choujin. Though the chapter was still in theĀ āmonster of the weekā format, the fight did have a somewhatĀ āseriousā tone to it, with things getting bloody in the end.Ā
A sign of things to come, and the eventual shift towards super-human wrestling. On a side note, it would be cool to see another monster wrestler appear someday, just to see how current Yude would fit them into the ever improving lore.
Keep hearing some people say blogs arenāt going to get completely nuked per-se. If thats the case then I hope at least this one remains safe. Itās my good boy corner. D:>

The Mystery of Captain Falconās āShort Sleevesā
So I was browsing around the world wide web recently, looking to see if I could stumble onto some artwork by Takaya Imamura that I hadnāt seen before, especially of the F-Zero variety. While I didnāt find anything in particular that I hadnāt seen before, I did happen to notice something that got me thinking a bit.
Sometime last year an interview was published with the developers behind the original F-Zero for the SNES, and in there some art done by Imamura was shown off. Upon looking at his original illustrations for the F-Zero manual comic about Captain Falcon, I noticed something interesting about Falconās early design, his short sleeves. Why on earth would I find something so mundane to be interesting? Well itās because to this day Captain Falconās character design from the original to the X era is still one of my favorites in video games, having that straight forwardĀ āmain characterā appeal while still keeping that eccentric nature the rest of the F-Zero character designs have. One particular element of his design that has always had me curious were his odd, double gloved arms from F-Zero X.
I describe them as double gloved due to them having a sort of flap similar to the gloves on his hands. In any case, looking at it now they sort of give him aĀ āshort sleevedā look, but not quite. One could even assume it may be a homage by Imamura to his earlier concepts. But that is Falcon from X, we must go back further to really get a clearer picture of this mysterious design choice. However before that, lets look at how Captain Falconās design was finalized in the original F-Zero.
It seems the artist they hired to redraw the comic wasnāt down with the short sleeves, or a change was made upon further consideration. (Side note: I really would like to one day know the name of the guy who drew this and the promotional art for the original. ATM I canāt find any info on it) But now, lets take a deep dive into Captain Falconās true original design, the enigmatic Captain Something-or-Other. Then potential mascot for the Super Famicom System, created by a young go-getter trying to make a name for himself at Nintendo.Ā
Notice short sleeves, or rather rolled up ones, which to be honest is a better look in my opinion. So since the very beginning, Imamura was thinkingĀ this guy has got to be rocking the exposed arms look. Very interesting stuff. Of course, as we saw with the finalized design and continuing into F-Zero X, this was not to be the case. I have one last bit of reference in regards to this design choice that pushed me over the edge into wanting to spend way too much time rambling on about it. I present evidence E!
Kent Akechi, from F-Zero: Maximum Velocity. We donāt talk about this game much around these parts, but it was pretty neat. This little shit claims heās Captain Falconās son, but the guy is going around showing off his face all day so maybe he doesnāt quite understand the seriousness of that claim. Does he think Black Shadow didnāt have offspring that want to kill him in front of millions? Samurai Goroh of course didnāt because his āsonā is AX trash and should be disowned. But I digress. As you can see, Kent here is rocking the short sleeve look as well, bringing it all full circle. Now as far as Iām aware, Takaya Imamura isnāt credited in Maximum Velocity so I donāt really think he had anything to do with the design of the characters featured in it, however the underlying theme of this whole mystery is the idea of consistency. When you create characters, you gotta keep them visually consistent for them to become recognizable and iconic, and in the case of Captain Falcon it seems that him having aĀ āshort sleeveā look was something Imamura wanted to stick with, perhaps not wanting to betray his original vision of the character. That or Iām just full of shit and just wanted to go off on a rant about a coincidence I found to be amusing relating to F-Zeroās hero.
Memes aside, I actually liked how they handled Captain Falcon's character in this scene. In fact Iād say itās the most accurate Smash has treated Falcon since the Melee intro. Iāve seen people assume that he was gonna bail, which isnāt very charitable. Aside from being a skilled bounty hunter, he is the best damn F-Zero pilot in the galaxy, and the Blue Falcon plays a part in both. Falcon and his machine are an unbeatable team so it makes sense he'd see that as his best chance at doing something instead of just meme punching light beams.Ā So yeah I thought that was kind of neat, and a bit humorous visually as well.
Rokes and Shay going on a trip. Wholesome stuff. For my nigga Jusiven
I wanna rage my dream
What do you think about the last Kinnikuman chapter?
I know this ask is from a while back, though it was still during the Zebra vs. Mariquitaman fight...
Saw people making these on Twitter and it looked like fun so I thought Iād give it a shot. If anybody can make a row out of these choices then you are not only one crazy funster, but a cool dude as well.
Doodling faces today, so I drew Conrad.
Its not red but ill take eit!!
Happy to see you finally got to pilot your own Balam. :D I hope you were making your troops sing while punching those Hectors as well.
Itās been quite some time since I last completed some Kinnikuman fan art. Yesterday was Kinnikuman Day and I sorta missed that, however it so happens today is Terrymanās birthday so I guess it all works out~! Terryman also happens to be my favorite character from the series, I liked him way back when I started reading the original run and I still like him now, even more so having picked up on the characterās theme of sacrifice. Calf Branding (V2) is still one my favorite finishing holds as well. Go Texas Bronco~!
