I have a very funny story to share but it requires some context: so, you guys know how Suez was hit by a magnitude 5.0 earthquake yesterday (So far there were no casualties reported, thankfully) and the shockwaves were felt all over Egypt, right? Now, me and my entire family are from Brazil, which is a country that experiences no seismic activity whatsoever, but my dad is currently living in Cairo for work.

With that in mind: my dad was sleeping last night and was woken up by his bed shaking and his closet doors swinging open on their own and his first, immediate thought was “Holy shit, it’s a poltergeist!” and the way his half-asleep brain decided to deal with the situation was by screaming “FUCK OFF GHOST!!! GET OUT OF MY HOUSE BITCH!!!” at the top of his lungs.

The way I found out about it was via my mom getting a text message from my dad and coming into my room running in a panic telling me about the earthquake only for him to finish typing out his story about valiantly standing his ground against the poltergeist, which made her start laughing so hard she was unable to tell me anything at all for the next couple of minutes.

I just got an epi pen (precautionary, don't worry, I have not had anaphylaxis, my mast cells are just fucked up in ways that concern my doctor) and since it's not the standard kind taught in first aid classes, I had to relearn how to use it and I'm gonna make you all learn with me.

It comes out of the box looking like this. This is actually an outer casing, not the epi pen itself:

You twist and pull the two halves apart to reveal the actual epi pen:

It looks pretty different from the kind I learned to use in first aid class. Let's zoom in and read the instructions:

It says that to use it, you would have to:

1. Pull off BOTH blue caps (one on each end). One of those will reveal a red tip underneath.

2. Push the red tip hard against the thigh and hold it there for ten seconds

3. Seek medical attention (epinephrine buys time, it doesn't reverse an allergic reaction)

This has been a random first aid PSA. I'm gonna have to give this same lecture to my coworkers at some point.
