I made actual Laura memes instead of buying chocolate for Valentine’s Day.
Last year, Laura gave me what I consider one of the sweetest things anyone has ever made for me. It's a Valentine she made out of paper hearts with different things that she loves about me written on them. I know, I know... super sappy, but I'd be lying if I said it isn't something I look at from time to time when I'm feeling down.
This year, I thought I'd return the favor in the form of... well, memes. Handmade, graphically-designed memes. And by handmade, I mean with a mouse and keyboard - those tools require my hands after all.
Anyway, here are things I love about Laura:
Laura is good at a lot of creative things. She's an amazing painting, a beautiful writer, and a helluva good improvisational voice over artist (who knew?!) She's also really good at writing sad song lyrics to my sad songs. When Laura isn't being creatively talented, she encourages creativity in others, which really means a lot to me.
Laura is cool in a way that doesn't make you feel un-cool (ok, maybe slightly). She is generous with her coolness and doesn't make you feel lame when explaining a really cool subject that she knows a lot about (and there are A LOT of such subjects). Laura has the unique ability to get you excited about the new song she just found or the amazing poem she just read, and like, how cool is that?
Laura has year-round festive spookiness integrated into her overall look and persona, which is just spooktacular. Halloween is of course a special time of year for her, and there's no one else I would rather have turn me into a skeleton than Laura (did I forget to mention she's really good at face makeup in the "tahhhlented" section?)
Laura's sharp wit, plentiful puns, and quick references to funny lines from our favorite media never fail to make me laugh. I love the way we pile on jokes until it devolves into just weird, funny sounds (usually resembling an over-exaggerated Emperor Palpatine).
Laura likes to jokingly say that she's a bitch as a catch-all for any moment that isn't 100% drenched in empathy and compassion, but the truth is, she really cares about the people in her life. She is someone that, through the nature of her career and the circles of friends she has, encounters a lot of people that struggle with coming out with their sexuality, as well as other personal struggles. She shows these people care and guidance, especially when they may not get it elsewhere. She loves to love, and to be loved (despite despising the phrase "live, laugh, love").
Anyway, Happy Valentine's Day Laura. I love you!
