A place to store challenges for Paralives. Eventually, maybe my messy, passionate thoughts on games, music, books, art and animation, as well. A WIP blog.
I hit the limit of links allowed per Tumblr post, so I've decided to split them into several posts. This one will list Paramaker mods.
Per usual, I am focusing on Victorian mods but will add any mod I find for any other historical era such as medieval or the 1900s, and mods that work across multiple eras.

Some mods here work best with wooden textures but are advertised with rbight ones. A few tweaks will help them fit in perfectly in a historical setting.

NOTE ABOUT THE BELTS:
- Make sure you are using the BOTH SIDES option for the piercing, as that is the only way to equip/unequip it
- I'm getting an issue where sometimes I can't change the color, or there is a white border around the belt. If you turn it off and back on it should work ok, but I'm sorry for the inconvenience.
Other known issues:
Sometimes the undershirts vanish? The only solution I know is to reselect them.
Conversely, sometimes the undershirts cannot be unequipped... Again, the only solution I know is to turn the dress off and back on.
I'm making this in anticipation of any historical mods or custom content made for Paralives, but mostly I'll be gravitating towards and looking for Victorian mods. Most links will go straight to Steam Workshop but some may go elsewhere, like Nexus, Patreon (free only) or even here.
I do intend to organise this better with custom dividers and more sections but it works for now :)

edit: i have decided to make 3 separate posts. this one will be edited down to only include live mode, and im working on tidying up the build/buy and paramaker cc for their own separate posts. hoping i dont have to do this with the fantasy list.
Someone asked for fantasy mods on Reddit and I started listing them out there. I figured why not bring it here too?
Onto the list! They are sorted mostly by species rather than game mode, aside from some generic items, so you will find witch clutter within the witch section, etc.

It's time! Welcome to my Museum Legacy Challenge, where you will complete the museum in Melino over 5 generations!
If you are interested in playtesting this challenge, please check this spreadsheet! I'm also very open to feedback for improving the challenge! This is technically somewhat of a beta for now to see if this can even work.
Alternative Formats: Google Docs | Paralives Forum
Overview
Your goal for each generation is to complete your Primary Task for the Museum, and bring in the next generation. These are the main requirements to consider a generation “successful”.
You may follow the rest of the rules as closely or loosely as you wish (obviously) but I have tried to structure some sort of story and resulting aesthetic with them, for guidance purposes or if you’re struggling to tell a story. Divert from it where it’s the most fun.
Traits are provided to try and encourage each Heir to act accordingly to their generation and what I think they may need, but can be reversed for a challenge or ignored for total freedom.
Keep reading for the full rules!
Set Up:
Start on any empty lot of your choosing.
Start with one young adult or teenager.
Overall Goal: Restore the museum throughout the generations.
Upon completion of each museum wing/section feel free to either:
Add a portrait of that gen’s Heir in their dedicated section
Map that gen’s family tree in their dedicated section
Or hold all of that until Gen 5, and create a whole wing dedicated to memorialising the museum’s biggest - and only - contributors: your family.
---
📚 GEN ONE - Historian Romance 🖋️
- Humble, scholarly, nostalgic -
You just moved to a new town, ready to explore and rich in history- something of particular interest to you. You’d like to set down roots here and learn about how this charming town came to be, maybe even work in the oldest building in town. But first, you must start at the bottom: minimum wage and low-quality accommodation.
Books line every wall in this home; luxuries and comfort come second to knowledge and learning.
Gen Rules
Vibe: Serious
Social Perk: Good with Family
Home: Academic, make-shift/mis-matched, low-quality
Museum Goal:
Primary Task: Fill the History section of the museum’s collectibles (Artefacts, not including paintings).
Do not sell any History items you haven’t already donated to the museum, even if it means being unable to pay your bills or buy nicer furniture.
Keep at least 3 duplicate items as potential heirlooms. You may sell any others.
Try to avoid collecting art, mushrooms etc.; sell any that you happen to collect, without donating them, if possible. Otherwise, delete or store them (in the case of items that cannot be found twice).
Have a good relationship with the museum Curator (Rahul Patel)
Career
Work a minimum-wage job for all of your young adulthood (and teenage years, if applicable).
Work in the museum by the time you are a senior (and find love there if you wish!)
Family/Love & Legacy
Have at least one child by/in adulthood.
Once they’re born, take your grandchild(ren) (Gen 3) to the museum with you regularly, and form a bond with your chosen Gen 3 heir.
Free plants and thrown out furniture are going to be your main source of furniture for a while.
---
🎊 GEN TWO - Parties Galore 🛍️
- Chaotic, impulsive, fun -
As a kid, you were always dragged to the museum, and it seems your parent has decided to do the same to your own kids. Furthermore, you had few luxuries as a kid. Well, looks like this is your chance! You’re ready to party and have fun- and do it in a nice house! A revolving door of partners awaits you, alongside a pool of drinks and hangovers for the ages!
Design and comfort reign over all; beautiful bed sheets and luxury rugs are staples in this home. Not a crate coffee table to be seen.
Gen Rules
Vibe: Energetic
Social Perk: Good at Making Friends
Home: Luxurious, designer, a little tacky
Museum Goal:
Primary Task: Avoid the Museum at all costs!
Career
Work part-time in any job of your choice.
Family/Love & Legacy
Have multiple flings from teen to adult, resulting in at least two “accidental” pregnancies.
Move multiple partners in and out in quick succession. (None should stay permanently.)
Let your parent care for your kids on multiple occasions. Have a stronger relationship with your other child(ren) than your Gen 3 heir.
Sell up to 3 of your parent’s historical artifacts to fund your lifestyle and home.
Buy all your furnishings straight from the build/buy menu.
---
🍄 GEN THREE - Geological Hobbyist 💎
- Earthy, open, peaceful -
One of your grandparents loved the museum and so do you - just not for the exact same reasons. Since you were a child, you found yourself particularly obsessed with Hector, Amber and August, the museum’s mascots. They inspired a love of foraging, digging and searching for mushrooms and precious stones, as well as natural living. You wish to be nothing like your parent.
Hand-picked thrifted gems are at the core of this home; rich jewel-toned throws and rugs decorate every room, crystals paint the sunlight, and plants crawl across every surface.
Gen Rules
Vibe: Overjoyed
Social Perk: Good at Taking Care of Others
Home: Bohemian, plants, thrifted gems.
Museum Goal:
Primary Task: Fill the Mushroom and Ore sections of the museum’s collectibles.
Keep some mushrooms to grow on your lot in a mushroom greenhouse.
Career
Maintain a steady, full-time job in science.
Family/Love & Legacy
As a child, collect merchandise from the museum.
Maintain good grades.
Have a serious relationship in each life stage from teen to adult, but no flings. The relationships may be with the same or different people.
Adopt at least two children of different ages, and have a good relationship with both.
Replace what your parents stole from your grandparents.
Get most of your furnishings second-hand, fill your home with plants and eccentric decor.
---
🎨GEN FOUR - Digital Connoisseur 🎮
- Tech-savvy, creative, natural -
Your parent was pretty much a hippie and you are very much okay with that. They filled your household with love and care, and gave you an outlet for your emotions: art. But while your great-grandparent may have wished you study “The Greats”, you’re much happier doodling anime, dreaming of making art for a video game company one day.
This home is filled with dark, sleek, modern but natural wooden furniture; a mix of modern minimalism and light boho, cluttered with art and lined with neon lights.
Gen Rules
Vibe: Jester
Social Perk: Good at Cooperation
Home: Bright and fun, modern, neon-natural
Museum Goal:
Primary Task: Fill the Classic Arts section of the museum’s collectibles.
Have a good relationship with the Museum Curator
If possible, digitise (draw from reference) each piece before donation.
Career
Earn money through art from teenage years.
By Adulthood, work in an Art domain (such as at Parallel Game Dev company as a Character Designer).
Save and "put away" as much money as possible for your next Heir’s dream/goal.
Family/Love & Legacy
Pursue art as a child, inspired by Miki.
Master the Art skill
Go to a party dressed as Miki (you can be loyal to her designs or make your own version/outfit!)*
Take on your parents’ hippie vibes, but clean it up into something a little more modern.
Create and store at least 10 artworks (don’t sell them all!)
Find love online or in mutual art/gaming interests.
*Parties are not present at EA. Have a gathering, play some music, etc.
---
🏛️🔨GEN FIVE - Legacy Curator 🪙👑
- Ambitious, polished but comfortable -
Your parent loved the arts, and you inherited their creative spark, only for music, instead. The museum is technically full and finished but something is missing. Throughout your life, you watched your parent dedicate years to the museum, and to art, only for their own artwork to never leave a cupboard. It’s up to you to give your parent (and family) the credit they deserve.
A sprawling estate, with space for multiple generations; luxury and personality combine with comfort, a perfect blend of all who came before.
Gen Rules
Vibe: Your choice
Social Perk: Your choice
Home: A luxury, legacy home, in a style of your choosing. Your ancestors rest on your property in a dedicated space.
Museum Goal:
Primary Task: Buy the museum (and renovate it lightly, if you wish).
Add a Legacy wing to credit your ancestors who contributed before you.
Move one signature item from each section or from your home to this wing to remember/represent each generation. (Eg. Gen 4: Your Gen 4 para’s easel, or the painting you think was their favorite, hardest to find, etc)
Dedicate a new wing to modern-day art, and display all the artwork created and stored by your Gen 4 parent.
Fill any missing spots from previous gens!
Career
Perform at the museum weekly to help raise funds.
Reach the top of a Music career to fund your large purchase.
Family/Love & Legacy
Pursue music as a child.
Master your instrument.
Could love lie somewhere in the town, maybe at the local bar?
Note: There is more potential for more generations/museum wings, such as: farming/plants, fish, insects, fossils and seashells. (If added officially or via mods).
Helpful Resources:
On the Steam Workshop, subscribe to the mod by “Irn Cgull” which allows you to modify public lots.
Alternatively, you can use a cheat to buy and edit any lot in the game: TOGGLEEDITTOWN
Keep in mind, these cheats, as well as the mod, may cause issues in your game or save file, and we don’t know what happens to community lots once edited with this method.
It may be safer to renovate the museum in a duplicated save file to check for any repercussions, and maybe even upload it to the steam workshop to load into another duplicated file to check for any repercussions there. Please let me know of the outcome so I can update this!
I made a version of this in the sims 3 a while back and decided I really wanted to make one for Paralives too!
With this mod you can place down mushroom fairy rings and your paras can use them to travel around town.
They can be found under Decor > Plants, and don't forget to turn on the TOGGLEEDITTOWN cheat to place them outside your home lot.
*Optional*: After placing one down you can also click the edit text button to add a 1-2 character reference to name the location. The text will appear in the top-left of the mushroom cards when you're deciding which location to travel to.
This system is copied off of the bus system, except it's 100x cuter and travelling is free 🍄

Museum Legacy Challenge Posted! - I will be posting it in a "beta" state to allow for playtesting, I'll likely post it this week, maybe tomorrow. Playtesting may take place over on the forum for easy navigation, but I'm not sure.
Fantasy Mods Master List Posted! - Only started June 19th, but will be formatted very similarly to my historical mods list.
Anthro Mods Master List - Started June 24th. Don't even ask.
Historical Mod Wishlist - An extensive, extremely messy list of assets, default replacements and script mods I wish to be modded into Paralives, either through people picking up the request, or through me commissioning it or making it myself (one day).
Sims 4 vs Paralives - A written piece I'm a bit anxious about sharing, that goes into times EA "copied Paralives' homework", with dates because... fun? It started as a silly table in my notes but I decided to write it up.
I still don't rlly know how interacting and posting works here, I feel like I walked into a party where idk the social rules, (and maybe I'm doing too much with the headers and stuff lol but anyway) if there's one of these anyone's especially interested in, want to help give feedback on/beta read or wants to collaborate on somewhat, do let me know :>
Yeah, that's right, we're getting real weird with this one.
So there's a few things about this new legacy that I want to put up front for anyone who cares/is curious. While I still plan on making the move of the Graves legacy over to Paralives, I've unfortunately realized that continuing my RE: Not So Berry legacy challenge isn't exactly possible in Paralives at the moment. So, until I'm able to make a work around to continue that legacy (because by god I am going to the first chance I get), I've decided that I wanted to start up another weird legacy to take its place in the meantime. Thus, the Rags to Riches Clown Rainbowcy.
But what really IS the Rags to Riches Clown Rainbowcy?
Let's start from the beginning. I've been watching James Turner's Paralives Rags to Riches gameplay for a bit, and I'm going to blame him for everything that happened after that. He named his founder Person Pennypile, and I was like, "OMG! I can do a Rags to Riches challenge too!" So then I started thinking about names, and I remembered the term "penny-wise", thought it would be a fun last name for a legacy challenge... and then remembered IT by Stephen King and quickly realized I basically set myself up for a family line of clowns. Thus, Rags to Riches but with clowns.
"But Kai," I hear you asking, "where did the rainbowcy part come from?"
Paralives has a color wheel. That's it. All of that complicated history for why its Rags to Riches with clowns and I just also wanted to play with the color wheel, so I'm doing all of that and then also making it a rainbowcy.
I don't really have any hard set rules for how this legacy is going to go, as Paralives is still in early access and plans on adding a lot more to it as it goes forward, but as of when I made my founder, these are some of the rules I made for them that I will be following.
Founder/Heir rules:
Founder should be a young adult and wear/genetically have as much of their generation's color as possible (I'm not personally worried about their skin color being the color of the generation, but if you wanna do that, be my guest). I'm starting with a white/grey founder because that just makes sense to me. In my mind, the generations afterward are adding color to the family line (I know, a marvel idea)
+3 to Charisma // +2 to Creativity // +1 to Mind // +1 to Physique (for points allocation)
Vibe: Jester // Social Perk: Good at Making Friends // Talent: Jack-of-All-Trades
The founder (and all heirs) MUST wear clown makeup for every outfit (except for pajamas) and have at least one weird and/or oddly patterned outfit with the clown shoes for their everyday wear options. For the whimsy.
Spares do not have to follow these rules, but if you want Melino to have a growing clown population, then let the clownification of Melino begin! (I personally think it's funnier that each generation has a Chosen Clown, so my own spares will not be doing this)
General rules:
Lifespan is set to normal and storyteller is Ricardo Castello III (very subject to change but I have yet to play with Ricardo as a storyteller so this is my learning opportunity, lol)
Start out with 0 paradimes and no lot. Each new generation, after becoming young adults, will move out and do the same.
Money can be made in any way you can without getting an actual job. For my founding generation, I am donating to the Community Center and the museum to get rewards. Any extra collectables that have already been donated may then be sold from the household inventory. I plan on each generation to focus on a different thing to do to make money to keep things interesting.
Once you own property/start building a home lot, you MUST include the clown door for a front door, the clown fridge in the kitchen, and the clown chair somewhere in a widely used space like the living room or office. You may also get the clown doll, if you wish, but it is not required. This applies to all generations. (Melino is going to be covered in so many colorful clown houses by the end of this...)
Avoid earning money through the storyteller cards every night.
Partners/parents may move in with the generation heir they marry/have a child with, but must quit their job if they have one. They are allowed to help with the generation's money making activities if you'd like, though it is not required.
Since this is a rainbowcy, each generation will need to be a different color. The colors I will be using for this legacy are as follows: white/gray, black, red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple, and pink
Personally, I think it's a little boring to strictly confine myself to the order of the colors of the rainbow, so I'll be deciding the next generation's color based on the color scheme of their other parent in some way. For example, if my founder has a baby with someone who has primarily orange hair, the next generation will be the orange generation.
After each color is used for a generation, it cannot be used again. Other partners will need to have another color that is primarily theirs. The aforementioned orange generation, to continue with my other example, could still have a baby with another person with orange hair so long as something else about their prospective partner is clearly another color, such as a purple hat or a red jumpsuit.
This legacy isn't exactly a true rainbowcy (just that each generation will focus on a different color), and it's still a WIP since Paralives is still in early access, but! I wanted to have fun, and I think this will be a fun challenge while having me explore the game as it develops. I hope you'll join me in the adventure, even if you just want to watch whatever happens with my gameplay!
“What were the paralives dev team doing for seven years 😡”
I mean you can check, if you want to… they posted updates constantly so like, you can literally go see what they were doing for seven years, if you wanted to…
Not to even mention they've been doing Friday Q&As since forever on every Friday. Or look at their development timeline. Or anything.
All I'm seeing is a whole lot of people completely divorced from the reality of complex creative projects. The fact that we are getting an early access game at all of this calibre is such a unicorn occurance.
