Let's talk about internalized misogyny.
Recently read a post on girls and internalized misogyny.
First, she talks down sorority girls, then she says she shouldn't be judging her fellow women. I have a few issues with this. She says everyone has their own interests, hers being hanging out with a cat and embroidering or something and a sorority girls' as raging at a frat party, but you know, implicitly makes the judgement call that her hobbies make her better.
Oh, honey. Really? You really wanna go there? No one needs your hypocritical bullshit. Don't generalize and stigmatize a community you obviously have never tried to understand beyond the most basic and superficial level.
1. Exchanges aren't just about raging and how many games of BP you win. I mean, part of it is, but there's also value in networking, having some semblance of a social life, meeting new people, and getting ready with your sisters.
2. Sorority women are leaders in their communities. Would you invalidate their accomplishments just because they made leaps and strides in letters? If you do, you're shady af.
3. Surprise! We know how to embroider (some. hellooooo big little week) and like to be cat ladies too! Having letters doesn't strip us of our passions or hobbies, rather, we find like minded people to do it with us.
I'll admit, I AM a product of my generation; not always proud of it, but I accept the fact. SO, yes, I recognize my own internalized misogyny and accept it. I can be critical, but I will never take the high horse on it. Call me out on being racist or a misogynist, I won't be offended. I'm working on changing it, but mentalities take a while to evolve (hello psychology).
Don't talk shit about the greek community without having a solid backing for your statements. BUT. If anyone ever wants to have a discussion on the merits and the detriments to greek life, I'm always down! I'd love to help clarify any stigmas and see what everyone else thinks. Just don't be superficial about it, or I'll write another semi passive aggressive post.
