This is why I like Critical Role. No matter how big the company gets, they always feel like a bunch of people who just decided to play Dungeons and Dragons, and someone asked to film them.

matt ruling that the technical damage from the explosion was irrelevant due to the power and weight of fcg’s sacrifice is what really got me. even if sam rolled the max possible number on the dice, it wouldn’t have even brought otohan to below where she was before she took the health potion. mechanically speaking, she should have survived that blast by a LOT of hit points. but this was a player willingly killing their own character, beyond reviving and even potentially beyond resurrection, to give the rest of the party any advantage they could, and he rewarded that with the death of a character that has haunted this campaign from the very beginning. unreal fucking plays by both matt and sam tonight.

For Prime: What if a puppy somehow ended up at the base?

I wrote this as an imagine since I think it would work better as one. Fair warning, the dog in the story is a stray so they do talk about why people abandon dogs but the dog is fine.

Team Puppy

“Thanks for picking us up, I would have gotten soaked out there.” Raf said, staring through the window. “Still, the hike was fun until that point.”

“No problem.” Bee replied. The Base’s door opened and as they were driving though, a small puppy ran into the base.

Bee stopped in confusion once Raf left, knelt down to get a closer look.

“It’s a puppy!” Miko exclaimed. She picked the dog up.

“You’re not supposed to pick up dogs you don’t know.” Jack said. “It could…”

Jack’s warning was cut off by the puppy yawning. The puppy moved to a more comfortable position being held by Miko.

Raf laughed at that.

“Well, some dogs would bite.” Jack said, though he smiled.

“Are you sure? He seems pretty tame.” Bulkhead asked.

“Jack is right; some dogs are reactive to strangers. It doesn’t seem like he is though. I wonder if he has an owner?” Raf asked, tilting his head thoughtfully. The dog mimicked his action. Raf laughed at that. He checked but didn’t see a collar.

Jack walked closer and gently pet the dog. “Its fur is pretty matted up; maybe it’s a stray?”

“Wait… are you telling me that some people leave these creatures to fend for themselves?” Bee asked.

“Well sometimes.” Raf replied, “It’s not really fair.”

“I’ll go get something to feed the dog.” Jack said, looking where they keep the snacks, “None of these are really good for dogs.”

“Humans and dogs don’t eat the same food?” Smokescreen asked.

“No.” Jack said, “Some foods are good for both but it’s not quite the same.”

“I’ll give you a ride,” Bulkhead offered, “The rain hasn’t let up.”

As Jack and Bulkhead left, Optimus allowed a warm smile to appear on his face at how gently the children were taking care of this small being.

Jack and Bulkhead returned a few minutes later and the dog jumped right from Miko to the food. He drank the water just as Jack finished putting some in the bowl and ate the food quickly, spilling it at the end.

“What kind of scrapheap would abandon a dog like that?” Arcee asked, leaning backwards.

“People decide they can’t take care of them. Instead of taking them to a friend or shelter they just leave them, it’s not right.” Jack said.

The dog than started running around. Miko laughed. The dog got onto Ratchet’s table and grabbed a wrench.

“I needed that!” Ratchet shouted and went to grab the dog. He went to grab the dog but he turned sharply, causing Ratchet to miss.

Miko was filming it while Jack and Raf was trying to help catch the mischievous puppy.

Ultra Magnus calmly grabbed the dog while it ran past him. He then took the wrench. “You are not to take things that don’t belong to you.”

“Dogs don’t understand as much as people do.” Jack explained. The dog fell asleep.

Fowler came in a half hour later.. “So, bringing children into the mess wasn’t enough?”

“He entered the base on his own. We believe he is a stray.” Optimus said.

“Do you want me to find a home for it?” Fowler asked. “You are right, it looks like the dog has been on its own for months.” The puppy moved closer to Optimus.

“It looks like he wants to stay.” Wheeljack said.

“Well, that would be your choice. Puppies need a lot of care.” Fowler warned.

“We can teach them everything they need to know about taking care of a dog.” Jack said.

“Alright, I’ll check around if the dog is lost. If it is we’ll have to have to return him to his owners.” Fowler said.

- Weeks later-

There was no owner found.

“So, are you guys going to keep him?” Fowler asked.

“Yes, this puppy deserves a home and he seems to be doing well here.” Optimus said. He smiled watching Ultra Magnus pet the dog.

“You did well at ‘sit’ training today.” Ultra Magnus said to the dog.

“So what did you name it?” Fowler asked.

“Zoom, as he does enjoy running around.” Optimus said. With that Zoom woke up, let out a small bark and began running around. He ran to Fowler.

Fowler chuckled, “Looks like you’re staying here, Zoom; try to keep these Bots out of trouble will you?”

Five children are forced to engage in guerilla warfare, espionage and repeated murder to protect their loved ones from alien parasites as they wait for the other, heroic aliens to finally arrive. When they do, the “good” aliens turn out to not give a shit about humans, caused the whole intergalactic war through their own shittiness and are willing to exterminate whole planets themselves to get at their hated enemies.

A child repeatedly experiences his intestines hanging out of his body while in various animal forms

A child is mentally tortured until broken and never gets better

A peaceful robot willingly removes its inhibition against violence to help in the war, only to slaughter a huge number of alien-controlled humans so gruesomely that nobody dares think about or speak of it again and it is the only thing left undescribed in a book series that already describes entrails getting torn out and skulls getting smashed

This reminds me of when our Sparks (the youngest level of Girl Guides) troop was making mother's day gifts, and my mom was the leader. She still acted surprised opening my gift, even though she oversaw it being made, and may have been the one handling the hot glue gun (it could have been an assistant leader doing that. It was a long time ago).

Nigel Brightmoore: A Complicated Duelmaster

Nigel Brightmoore...You can either love him or hate him. Personally, I kinda hate him because of how he treated Ra-vu. Granted, he's had personal trauma with creatures especially after that Evolution spell. But, it didn't give him a good reason to betray his fellow duelmasters and side with the Choten (biggest mistake he made!!). He was willing to create a creature war in hopes of protecting humanity from Kaiju. His judgement truly was clouded. He wasn't as cruel as the Choten considering how disgusted he was with having to brainwash all the humans with Cyber Viruses *cringe*. Ultimately he betrayed the Choten by destroying the passageway. If he had a bit more screen time, it would've helped show how much he's grown as a character in general.

I don’t feel like the fandom is nessecarily big enough for all of these to fully apply, but here goes

Lowkey otp Hector and Nadia, they’re relationship is more background, but I really like itHighkey notp I don’t really have one, the closest is Ray and Allie, they’re more siblings, and too popular a ship.[Softly] don’t notp Ray and AlakshmiHighkey otp but I’m afraid of saying it because it’s not a very popular choice Allie and AlakshmiHighkey otp and anyone on my Tumblr knows it I don’t talk about Kaijudo shipping much, but Gabe and Sasha. Gabe is the best protag, Sasha is from the best civilization, and they work so well off of each other.

We all know for a fact that Nadia, Hector, and Kimora had a tally of who defeated the most monsters when they were acolytes.  It continued into when they became masters and then Jaha and Brightmore got into it.  

Bonus that Ray, Gabe, and Allie find a tally sheet and they show it to the masters and they cycle begins again.

I can see this, and I can imagine that Master Issao tries to ignore it (calling it childish), but secretly adds his name to the tally, saying that Ray's doing it for him. Everyone knows, but just ignores it.

Theory: Nigel Decided to Join the Choten Before the Events of “Heavenly Creatures”

Since Master Nigel is one of my favourite duel masters, I watched "Heavenly Creatures" several times. And while the reveal that Master Nigel joined the Choten happened at the end of the episode, I think that the agreement actually happened before.

In the episode, everyone is looking for the Light artifact in San Campion. However, as the artifacts were typically initially found in their home civilization, I don't see why they would be looking in the human realm while ignoring the creature realm. However, if Nigel either convinced the duel masters that the artifact wasn't in the light civilization, or he has other people looking there/he will look there, that could explain why everyone is looking elsewhere for the artifact.

The second reason I think that Nigel joined the Choten is that he went with Ray, Gabe, and Allie to save Sasha. When I first saw this, I figured the creators/writers simply wanted an episode where Nigel is with the main characters in the Light civilization, but there may be more to it. He may have figured that by having the kids there, they could also help find the Light artifact. As he had their trust at the time, they would have no reason to avoid giving him the artifact. This is further suggested by how Nigel jumped through the veil opening he made before checking if the acolytes are coming. Considering he didn't seem to care too much about going to the Light Civilization before, I doubt that he would have went to save Sasha on his own. However, if he planned to go there anyway, and to use saving Sasha as an excuse, then him being on his own would be fine.

One reason I wondered if Nigel joined the Choten at the end of the episode is because he didn't do anything to hurt the main characters, and even helped Sasha escape. However, this is easily explained. Even after the reveal, Nigel still pretended to work with the Duel Masters for a bit. This implies that he was undercover, so hurting the acolytes would ruin his plan. By pretending to be on the acolyte's side, he is keeping his appearance of a loyal Duel Master. He didn't need to betray the acolytes at the time because the Heart of Light would still be close to him, making it possible to steal it, or tell the Choten where it is, when the time is right.

So, as much as I like that episode, now I will be thinking about how Nigel was manipulating the acolytes the entire time.

I finally finished Kaijudo and it really was a great show, but I kinda have a problem with how the ending just seems to have a little too many sequel hooks to it (I know you commented that you yourself think the Choten and Tiera survived), so I was wondering on your opinion of them (ie the still-evolved creature on the other side of the veil, possibly evolved monarchs, etc)?

Awesome! Glad to know you finished Kaijudo and liked it. As to the ending, I agree… It feels to me like there were some hopes behind the scenes of getting a third season which ultimately fell through.

I mean, Alakshmi is still revenge driven and has yet to settle things with her family (there’s a plot arc right there). We still don’t know where Allie’s mom is or if Mr. Underhill has truly accepted the fact that his wife is out of the picture. What about Gabe and Sasha’s relationship? How could that progress and what kind of problems could it run into with the worlds still divided? What other ramifications did the S2 finale have on society in the Veil? S1’s finale had long reaching impacts which lasted far into S2 after-all… What about Lucy?

Unfortunately, I don’t really have any major answers. But these are all potential threads I think could have made meat for a hypothetical third season.
