i love the episodes of cadfael that start with the implication that someone was murdered over, like, the typical it's about money/honor/hate/love motivations you see in a murder mystery, but then the reveal is like nope! civil war.

i find that a startlingly large amount of mental health advice boils down to "talk to yourself like you're a stupid baby incapable of reasoning out falsehoods" and "live in a world of delusion" instead of actually confronting an issue
i.e. "no one in public spaces cares if you look or smell bad, so who cares" or "the best way to deal with aging is to pretend you just woke up from a coma and now have the chance to do whatever you want". maybe these ideas are short-term beneficial or even wholesale adaptive, but to me they strike me as avoiding the root cause of the harmful paradigm. ykwim like you should be saying things like "yeah someone might be rude to you in public, you should learn how to cope with that" and "aging is normal and you still have time to do what you want"
It’s very far removed from the reality of maladaptation like good mental health treatment revolves around accepting reality and building coping mechanisms it’s the backbone of dbt in general. You can only live in denial for so long sheltering yourself works temporarily however it’s a band aid that’ll fall off the only way to make progress is to learn how to handle and accept reality or else you’ll fall into another pit

I use what I call the “best friend strategy” you ask yourself what you would tell your best friend, the type of friend you can be honest with but you still care about their feelings. Like if I was mad that I put off cleaning

Smurf Angst
Backstory
Back when Papa Smurf was younger, his previous village was destroyed by evil and selfish wizards, some of whom were considered his friends. This left Papa with scars that never truly healed. Eventually he would build a new village and care for the new generation of smurfs, but he dreads the misdeeds and cruelty of humans. Gargamel doesn’t help with that point of view either.
The other Smurfs had no clue of Papa’s pain.
That actually explains so much. Papa is always careful and a bit distrustful (Still kind but careful) around humans. Sure he likes Hominibus and clearly trusts him and some sorcerers (I can’t remember the name but there were two sorcerers he trusted enough to let the smurlings play with their dragon on their own) but they probably took time to gain his trust. He seems to know humans can be cruel but is willing to help.

I like it. The idea that there are Smurfs who want to help humans and do so. I hope they do things like mess up the robberies but stay out of sight.
It also shows that there is more than one way to run a village of Smurfs which is awesome.
I feel like that would be nice in concept, but it feels a bit too OOC (out of canon) for that to happen. Not to mention that we saw the what-if scenario of a different village of Smurfs being run in The Lost Village with the girl smurfs with Willow being in charge of them.
Ever since I watched the 80s cartoon I was like “Wait, if Papa was the leader of this village but was raised with others, where are they?” So anything that hints at an answer to the question is interesting to me

It was an extraordinarily quiet day in Smurf village. The creatures of the forest were chirping as the wind blew and the trees swayed in the wind.
And you were bored, really bored. Usually you would be hanging out with Hefty, clumsy, Brainy and Smurfette. But today you couldn't seem to find any of them, Perhaps they had gone off an adventure without you.. Or were simply just busy! yes, you really shouldn't get ahead of yourself.
You'd done that one too many times, sure.. had it been weird switching from a normal human life to live as a.. much tinier shrunken human with the Smurfs? Yes, it had been. But you loved it non-then less! At first you were worried how the rest of the Village would react, but were pleasantly surprised when everyone accepted you rather quickly.
Shaking yourself out of your thoughts you decide to stop procrastinating and go find something to do!
It doesn't take much time for you to get dressed in some everyday clothing that had been tailored just for you and put on your trusty boots.
Taking a stroll around Smurf Village you greet and wave at each and every Smurf you pass by they respond by doing the same thing, Smiling to yourself you strut down the paths that lead through the village stopping in front of a familiar Shroom.
Brainy's home. Curiously you peek inside looking through one of the many windows. Oh! He's inside. You glance around a moment wondering if it's such a good idea to knock.. You wouldn't want to bother him he's probably busy with his Inventions. ..right?
You don't really have much else to do though, And he enjoys your company. Or so he's told you.
Shrugging with a hum you knock on the door. It's a moment before you hear a loud explosion. ..whoops?
The door opens rather quickly and on the other side stands Brainy, his face and body covered in... soot, Likely from the explosion you heard. He pulls his goggles up over his glasses and tilts his head.
"Oh! ..Hello. Apologies for the mess. Come in if you'd like." he responds straightening his glasses, You smile and follow him inside, Looking around his Shroom you see the uh.. Giant hole in the floor and wall, soot is almost covering the entire inside of his house.
"Yikes.. Did i do that? ..Sorry." you speak nervously and wring your fingers.
"Oh, no. I was simply experimenting on something. Accidently dropped something.. rather explosive, when you knocked. But it should be cleaned in a jiffy." Brainy shrugs and moves his goggles down, walking over towards the destroyed area. "You can look around, You've already been here a few times."
As soon as your given permission you look around the room and walk around, there's so much cool stuff you've never even seen before! Looking around on some shelves you come across something you've seen before, maybe once or twice.
It's a book, a darkish blue one and on the rib it reads; "Quotations Of Brainy Smurf." You had seen him carrying this book around a few times before, and writing in it.
You pull the book out of it's spot from the shelve and examine it, He had written this book! Amazing. In awe you open the book, the spine cracking softly as you do so. Hm, that meant it hadn't been opened much, You wondered why.
Opening the book you begin to read, The words are neatly Wroten down and are perfectly aligned with one another. The book is filled to the brim with extensive knowledge of many things, some things not so real.. but other stuff incredibly smart.
There's also a bunch of ramblings from his point of view in the book, While some other people er- Smurfs wouldn't quite understand any of this or even like it really; You find yourself impressed with well.. most if not all of the book.
You turn around and look at Brainy the book still in your grasp. "You wrote this?" You ask holding out the book.
Brainy Hums and looks up turning towards you as he removes his goggles, he squints and fixes the position of his glasses. "Hm.., Yes. That would be the book I've filled with Knowledge I've gained. "Quotations Of Brainy Smurf." It's the first of many books I've written for that series. Why?"
"It's so well written!" You exclaim with a smile, Brainy's expression falls into a shocked almost one as he tilts his head again. "..What?"
"Yeah! I mean, I've been writing since I can remember And my hand writing, grammar and sentencing isn't even this good. I'm not even really surprised considering you're like.. a genius! But I had no idea you wrote. It's super impressive."
"..You really think so?" he asks pushing his glasses up the bridge of his nose. "I mean, Nobody else has really read those. And when I've tried to get people to read them.. they're plain Uninterested."
"Yes I really think so!" you walk over to him and look at the book with him again.
"Would you want me to read you the other books?" He asks looking almost nervous.
"Of course!"
