“Is that so?” Audrey questioned, resting her elbows on her legs as she leaned forward only slightly. “Well, I’m glad.” She stated simply, eyes focusing on his as he spoke. “Oh, that darn internet. Getting you more birthday wishes. It is kind of weird though. I had people that my parents work with wishing me happy birthday. Don’t think I ever actually met them, either.” Every time a birthday rolled around, Audrey found herself questioning some of the messages she got due to the fact that most of the numbers were not actually saved into her phone. It was always confusing as to why so many people felt the need to actually send the message. “Glad you enjoyed it.” She teased with a slight shrug of her shoulders. She pressed her palms against the bed, a smile forming on her lips when she watched his reaction. She brought one of her hands to rest on the side of his neck when he kissed her, allowing for her lips to move against his. “You really like it?” She mumbled after pulling away from him only slightly, her tongue running over her lower lip as she spoke.

“Yeah, like I said, most people tend to forget this kind of thing. But my dad did send me this super cool eCard thing online that was all personalized and stuff. He’s kind of a dork but I love him for trying.” Lawson smiled, shaking his head at the thought of his Dad. He was a good guy, and tried really hard to fill both roles as a parent. He knew it was hard for him, being single, but he knew he would try when he was ready. “No, no, the worst is the random’s that post on your facebook wall. My cousin’s aunt’s stepson will post and tell me ‘happy bday brother love u’ and I swear I’ve never met the man.” He shook his head in disbelief. “Oh, yeah, I loved being the little puppy dog my girlfriend leaves in the car. I filled the role so well.” He waggled his eyebrows at her, his words teasing. He watched her expression as she pulled away gently, hands reaching out to rest on her hips lazily. “Of course I did.” He said honestly, his tone softer than before. “It means a lot that you got me anything at all, let alone something as special as this.”

Audrey narrowed her eyes at him, pursing her lips together. “Well,” She began, her lips turning up into a smile. “I remembered, so you can’t hold it against me.” She quipped, raising a brow at him as she spoke. It wasn’t often that she remembered birthdays without being reminded prior to the day, but Lawson’s was one of the birthday’s that actually ended up sticking in her head. “Ah, good. I can finally go to a bar without having to leave my boyfriend in the car.” She teased, nose scrunching up as she spoke. “Alright, you’re going to also think I copied you but if you remember correctly, I brought up the star thing first, alright?” She was speaking fast again before she reached into her bag and pulled out two certificates and handing them to him. “It’s not much but.. I got you a star for you and your mom.” She began, running her tongue over her lower lip. “I had the first one originally but then I figured this way.. there is officially a star named Amelia up there and it could possibly be next to yours.”

Lawson’s turned up into a smile as he looked at her, shaking his head gently. “I will give so that much. You’ve already got more brownie points than most of the people I know.” He grinned. “I feel like most of the time social media just kind of makes a chain reaction. One person posts about a birthday, and suddenly everyone knows. The power of the internet.” He said warily. Sometimes it genuinely felt like he was an old man when it came to this stuff. It was probably like some sort of Freaky Friday situation, knowing his luck. “When you left the windows cracked, it was actually kind of cozy in there.” He quipped. His eyes followed her hands as she reached in the bag and pulled out his gift. As soon as she started explaining, he couldn’t help but smile. It was really thoughtful, something that he’d remember for a long time. “Wow.....Audrey, that’s really thoughtful of you. Seriously. I love it. I know that she would love it too.” He looked at her, speaking honestly. “Thank you.” He leaned over, lips finding hers easily as if that were enough of a thank you.

Audrey sat on the edge of his bed, kicking her shoes off before turning to face him, crossing her legs over each other. “Well, good.” She replied, nodding her head slowly. “Glad they were true because apparently my boyfriend doesn’t have enough faith in me and thought that I forgot about his birthday.” Her voice rang with sarcasm as she reached next to the bed, picking her bag up and setting it in her lap. “I think you’re still far too young to have a mid-life crisis. Still pretty much a child.” She teased, her hands absentmindedly playing with the handles on her bag though nerves could have easily played a part in her need to distract her mind. “So listen,” She began, not entirely sure of where she was even going. In the back of her head, she knew there wasn’t any actual reason to be nervous about giving him his gift. She was sure he would appreciate it regardless and even if he didn’t, he was far too nice to admit it to her. “I wasn’t entirely sure what to get you, if i’m being honest. I’m absolute shit at the whole gift thing, you know?” A sigh escaped her lips, pulling the bag to her chest for a minute. “First of all, there was no use in buying you alcohol.. especially considering everything you’ve bought. We’ll consider the next round on me. Anyway, just know I tired, alright?”

“Hey, don’t blame me for that. Any kind of trust issues about my birthday come from years of being forgotten about, it takes a toll on a guy.” He teased, placing a hand on his heart in mock hurt. Lawson was really only partially kidding. Most of the time, though, when people didn’t celebrate his birthday it was because he didn’t tell them when it was. Obviously he wasn’t upset if it was his own fault in the first place. “Hey, this child is legal now, alright? I’m feelin’ like a new man.” He countered, watching her hands fiddle with the straps. It was clear she was nervous, for whatever reason, though there was no need to be. Any kind of gift she could get would be one he would appreciate. He listened as she talked more, nodding his head as she finished. “Seriously, don’t be so worried about this. I’m grateful for any gift. You really didn’t have to get me anything at all.” He told her honestly.
