favorite thing about them: he comes across as being...well, hubert, but he’s actually a good guy underneath it all. he’s pretty supportive of and loyal to the people he trusts also, while he does shady shit, he does have standards. and he’s?? really smart??? like he was able to figure out where those who slither were based on one javelin of light attack. that’s not nothing.
least favorite thing about them: how many times must i fight him in AM/VW/SS, IS. HOW MANY TIMES
favorite line: “WE WILL BURN TOGETHER!” is the single most extra crit quote in existence. also, the one where he just straight up laughs.
brOTP: hubert/bernadetta. look, i’m just soft for a character being scary as hell except around one specific person. and he tries to support her, in his own way! and she gives him an embroidered flower! and he actually wears it!!
OTP: hubert/bernadetta, for the exact reasons listed above. look, i just love hubert & bernie romantically or platonically. also, hubert/ferdinand because like...there’s really no heterosexual explanation for their supports.
nOTP: ...honestly, i don’t think i have one?
random headcanon: there’s a reason he wears his bangs like that; it’s not just a fashion choice. i don’t know what that reason is, but it’s there.
unpopular opinion: i’m not sure how unpopular this is but, hubert leaving byleth that posthumous letter makes way more sense in SS than it does in VW. in SS, byleth was his and edelgard’s teacher. in VW, byleth was...claude’s teacher? yeah. and in AM byleth and dimitri wipe out those who slither more or less by accident anyway lmao

favorite thing about them: he doesn’t give a shit. like, ever. he calls edelgard a nuisance to her face and he (mostly) doesn’t care what other people think of him. legends only. plus, he actually gives good advice when he’s not being...well, lin.
least favorite thing about them: he...doesn’t always approach sensitive topics as delicately as he should (see: his c support with lysithea), though to his credit, he does learn a bit.
favorite line: he says something to the effect of “flayn? no i haven’t seen her, she’s been kidnapped! oh, you’re looking for her!” during the flayn kidnapping chapter and it cracks me up every time. also, his “i may as well win!” crit quote.
brOTP: linhardt/caspar. i don’t mind them as a romantic pairing, but i tend to prefer them with other people. their friendship is always A+ though, their supports are hilarious.
OTP: considering i married linhardt in both my bleagles runs...m!byleth/lin, whoops. he’s also really sweet with marianne, though? like holy shit, that A support is smooth. and he spends the entire support chain trying to convince her that she’s not unlucky! what a guy.
nOTP: linhardt/flayn. i do love flayn, but i don’t ship her with lin.
random headcanon: he helps lysithea even outside of their paired ending. she’s still his friend, so of course he cares enough to help save her. and lysithea deserves nice things!
unpopular opinion: there’s more to his personality than just sleeping, like guys please

on main, huh. this is long, so under the cut it goes.
favorite thing about them: dimitri is basically a deconstruction of your traditional fire emblem lord. like, we’re introduced to him as this incredibly kind and compassionate young prince, yet with a lurking darkness underneath. then you get to part 2 and the mask comes completely off. he’s 100% my favorite of the three lords, and is probably one of the most (if not the most) complex fire emblem characters i’ve seen to date.
least favorite thing about them: he makes some...regrettable...decisions. also he’s annoying as hell to fight in crimson flower
favorite line: it’s hard to pick just one thing he says because he has a lot of great lines, so i’ll just go with “KILL EVERY LAST ONE OF THEM!” bc it’s iconic.
brOTP: dedue, of course. also the faerghus four in general, but felix especially. i know i’m always gonna be biased for felix and their relationship in-game is pretty bad for most of the main story, but it’s clear that they patch things up in azure moon and felix even becomes his right-hand man. i also don’t think it’s a coincidence that felix’s happiest endings are only possible with dimitri alive. i could go on about felix & dimitri for a while so i won’t, but basically while i think there’s too much baggage there for them to be romantically involved (and imo felix is in love with someone else already), i’m all for them being good friends again.
OTP: ..byleth. always byleth. look, he has it really bad for them from day one and i’m a firm believer in dimitri deserving nice things.
nOTP: obligatory edelgard answer here, but also catherine. like...not even the game gets that one. and why would you pair catherine with dimitri when there’s a perfectly good shamir right there
random headcanon: when dimitri and his partner have kids (he does canonically have at least one son in azure moon), they actively choose not to name them after dead people for a variety of reasons.
unpopular opinion: dimitri isn’t “cured” of his trauma after gronder field, and the shift also wasn’t sudden. there were plenty of little hints that dimitri’s old self wasn’t totally gone before that happened; rodrigue and byleth just gave him the final push he needed. also, he’s still dealing with it even after the about-face. like, he specifically mentions that he’s still hearing voices of the dead and probably always will. he’s just choosing to live for the living now.
song i associate with them: “chasing daybreak.” is it cheating that i’m using a song from the ost? idc, it’s the blue lions anthem don’t @ me
favorite thing about them: apollo is just. so done. like constantly. this poor guy just has so much shit thrown at him and he handles it all with a snarky inner monologue while yelling “i'm fine!” at the top of his lungs. what an icon.
least favorite thing about them: this isn't his fault, but the fact that you could tell that the writers clearly had no idea what to do with him so they just kept making his backstory increasingly...i don't wanna say ridiculous, but you get the idea.
favorite line: "I'm a lawyer. I live for needless procedures," or basically any line where he's being a sarcastic lil shit.
brOTP: with trucy, of course! someone please tell them they're actually related. PHOENIX

random headcanon: he suffered from semi-frequent headaches for a few months after his head injury in duel destinies. dude got brained with a piece of debris, it couldn’t have been pleasant.
unpopular opinion: apollo deserved to not be outshined by phoenix in his own game—

favorite thing about them: GOD where do i start. sylvain is just...one of those characters that you think is going to be super shallow at first but is actually quite complex once you go through his supports. he’s very smart but constantly downplays it, he’s got a ton of anger surrounding his lot in life and the status quo, and he cares deeply for his friends. i just. love sylvain a lot.
least favorite thing about them: i don’t think it’s a particularly hot take to say the way he treats (most) women isn’t great lol
favorite line: “There's just one thing I want you to remember. Guys like me who hate hard work and sorta get by on our wits? It all falls apart eventually. I'm smart enough to know that.” i really like his supports with annette, but this line has always stood out to me. it really highlights how self-aware he is.
brOTP: the faerghus four, like in general. do not separate them!
OTP: felix/sylvain. i just...have a lot of feelings about those two okay. like, who makes a promise to die with their best friend if they aren’t at least a little bit in love? c’mon. also, i’m weak for childhood friend romances and mutual pining.
nOTP: ...i guess i don’t really have one?
random headcanon: sylvain is one of those guys who would unironically wear shorts in a blizzard because gautier is freakishly cold year-round and he’s just used to it. i imagine most people from faerghus are good with the cold, but people from gautier are especially cold-resistant.
unpopular opinion: i actually don’t mind that he has so few A supports? like it does suck that he doesn’t have more paired endings but, it shows just how hard it is to really get past his cheery facade and how he actually has some major trust/self-worth issues.

favorite thing about them: he's an asshole. i say this lovingly. but grantaire is a huge melodramatic asshole who gives pages-long speeches while smashed and that's exactly why i love him.

nOTP: uhhh...i don't really have one, tbh? i don't see him shipped with too many people outside of enjolras, LOL.
random headcanon: my grantaire has a cat named turtle in his modern verses. no, he was not sober when he named her.
unpopular opinion: i'm not sure how hot of a take this is these days, but enjolras isn't a big ol' meanie who yells at him for no reason. the one time he does yell at him in canon is really harsh, yeah, but that's after grantaire screws up the one thing enjolras asked him to do by drinking instead. the rest of the time, enjolras kinda just...lets him talk. honestly, i'm impressed enjolras doesn't snap at him well before the "you believe in nothing" scene.

favorite picture of them: i could have put an obligatory "this is a hadleytaire appreciation blog" pic here but honestly, just take any freeze frame of him in "red and black" from the 2012 movie and there you go
generally speaking, bernadetta doesn’t talk about her home life. like, at all. even when it comes up in conversation, she’ll either clam up or leave the room unless it’s with someone she feels super comfortable with. i’m sure some of her classmates figured out that something isn’t right there, but they probably didn’t hear it from bernie herself until much, much later. similarly, women tend to make her a little less nervous than men do before she gets to know them (like, compare how initially she acts around petra and dorothea vs ferdie and caspar).
