The equivalent would be Trump cornered by both Obama sisters on the White House roof (yes, while it’s on fire, I can totally believe that Trump will somehow lead to the White House catching fire at some point) insisting that “we’re all friends against the Republican establishment, it’s their fault” and Sasha and Malia quote one of Trump’s tweets back at him to tell him to get the fuck out; Trump scurries away and runs right into Pence and Cruz.

When a girl debuted as a geiko, is she considered a junior in the hanamachi or senior?

She is considered a junior. This is actually something I learned only a few months ago, but if a woman debuts as a Geiko, being 22 or 41, she is considered more junior than anyone that debuted before her, even if it’s a 15-year old Maiko who only debuted 3 months before her. This can actually be quite confusing for customers as well.

The level of seniority in the kagai is determined by experience, not fame, talent or age. The longer you’ve been active in one district, the more senior you are and the higher your rank.

In “Real Geisha Real Women”, a documentary, Geiko Umechika (Umeno Okiya) of Kamishichiken actually refers to Geiko Umeha as her “younger sister”, even though Umeha debuted as a Geiko in 2003, when Umechika was still a Maiko, and Umeha is older than Umechika. She said that, if she wouldn’t sit and behave properly, even when relaxing, her younger sister Umeha would remind her that, as her senior, she should be setting a better example for her (which Umeha probably said as more of a joke).Umechika debuted about two years before Umeha, and that’s what counts.

Jikata Geiko ichisumi (Ichi Okiya) of Kamishichiken debuted in September 2016 and is already in her 40s, but she is still junior to all Maiko and Geiko of her okiya (and all of Kamishichiken) except for Ichiaya.
