Since Ren/Fox is a fox beastkin; do you think it's possible that the scent of the person he is attracted to would excite him? For humans perspiration can smell gross, but I imagine for Ren/Fox might enjoy it, especially during his heats and especially if it's a person with a uterus who might be ovulating. He might actually be able to detect when they are ovulating and if it coincides with his heats I imagine that would drive him insane. How do you think he'd react? The biology nerd in me is curious.

Absolutely. Iâve thought about this a lot.
Ren can smell when youâre ovulatingâ this stems from the ability to smell when another beastkin is in heat, which originally developed to make breeding more successful, and even help sync peopleâs cycles, much like with humans.
Strong senses are a very fundamental part of being a beastkin, and I think a lot of people overlook just how much Ren can do with them. (He can canonically smell about 4x better than a human).
Because of this, I agree that the scent of a person can and does attract him. However, itâs more than just smelling a persons sweat for example (not to say it isnât, but it isnât only that). I think Ren can smell a personâs unique scent on a more pheromonal level, which lets him/beastkin in general form better connections with people based on scent.
I mention it a few times in my writing, but I think couples mixing scents (wearing each others clothes, rubbing against each other to scent them, etc) is comforting for beastkins, and although humans canât smell quite what they do, Ren still tries to make Strade/MC (depending on the situation) smell like him a little for his own comfort.
On a more sensual level, if Ren is attracted to someone, I think their natural scent becomes more enticing to him in what will ultimately be a turn on, and yes, it can drive him crazy. Especially if youâre ovulatingâ itâs in his nature to breed during those times, and it could even jumpstart his heat.
I am also a biology nerd, especially when it comes to fictional/speculative biology and figuring out how things would work, so I definitely get it. (Never apologize, this is good stuff :] )
