I like to think we meet in every universe, because it means that somewhere we are seven years old and the swings are the perfect height and everything is ours. and somewhere I’m eighty-nine and you’ve just turned ninety and I wipe my lipstick from your cheek with the back of my thumb, and somewhere I sit behind you on the bus and you look back, just for a moment, and I exist in your teenage diary. and of course it’s bloody somewhere, kind and feral like the wars we both fight, but somewhere it’s not. somewhere we’re old, and somewhere we’re young, and always we’re together — on every planet, on every star — even if just for a moment. it means that somewhere we get it right. it means there’s a universe where we’re kissing in the grocery aisle, and nothing bad has happened to us yet. I think I’d like to go to that one next. I hope she knows to spend all her moments with you.
