i basically have to force myself not to read the severance subreddit because it feels so obvious to me that the core of mark scout’s arc is that he has yet to actually challenge himself. even the sacrifices he makes for gemma are ultimately to his own benefit, as he believes finding her will reset their relationship. like. mark has to change. even if he’s instinctually kind, selfishness born out of self hatred is still selfishness! he pushes his family away. he’s a dick about how others grieve gemma. he got a 100% lethal brain surgery in a basement without considering the consequences. he made an entirely new person (without asking) and then decided to reincorporate that person back into himself (also without asking). the reintegration isn’t working because mark scout is still incapable of viewing mark s as an independent being. he’s chasing an easy solution, without acknowledging any of the messiness that came first. he’s basically following the exact same path that led to him getting severed in the first place. it’s not a plot hole?
