it does feel insane to be watching a show made by a show runner who admits to withholding important parts of the story and made a whole season intentionally confusing while promising if he gets to make a season 4 and 5 we'll get all the important missing parts and everything will make sense
every interview Rolin really is just like 'if we get seasons 4 and 5 it will all make sense in the end. trust'
I'm only in the middle of my re-watch and uh oh, the prevailing theme of the season is becoming abundantly clear already (we all know it but it's punching you in the face on the re-watch over and over) and it's making me think of what a season 4 with Akasha might be like and it's uh, well, looking a lot darker than the book...
So I'm re-watching on netflix and I'm on ep 3 and noticed Daniel mentions apart from the Fang Gang there were two more attempts on Lestat's life during the tour we haven't seen. I wonder if they are part of the missing records and we'll see them later or foreshadowing to the assassin and the beheading
Why is it that with every interview Rolin does it feels like I'm watching Icarus flying closer and closer to the sun
Look, I get Louis' trauma from saying "I love you" to Paul and then seeing Paul take his own life right after, and how that trauma stops him from being able to tell Lestat he loves him.
But does Louis not deserve to heal from that? Does he not deserve to say "I love you" to someone who becomes near unkillable in the end? Should Louis not be allowed to grow and take the risk and overcome his obstacles and experience being able to express his feelings to the love of his life?
Why can't Louis go on that journey and heal and grow? Can that not be part of his character arc?
Come on, Rolin, why are you so adamant Louis shouldn't express his gay feelings for Lestat in words to him in person? it won't make him look weak, I promise.
There are many valid criticisms to be had about the writing on TVL. It should be a more diverse writers room. There are absolutely biases in the writing - as their biases in all writing. That should be discussed. That should be addressed.
And to be clear those diverse voices shouldn't just be there to write for Louis. They should be there to contribute to entirety of the plot just like Anusree Roy should absolutely be back as a voice to add authenticity to Armand while also getting to write about stuff that has nothing to do with him as she did this season.
That said: I do think other criticism about the structure, plotting, and pacing is less to do with objectively bad writing vs. what people got compared to what people thought they were going to get compared to what they wanted to get.
It sucks when that happens. It sucks when you have expectations for a show and that's not what you get. It sucks when you think you could do better. It sucks when you have scenes from a book that you really want to see and it's decided by other people that isn't something they want to focus on. It does not inherently make the writing bad.
Most importantly, beyond that, it doesn't make Rolin Jones evil. It doesn't make Hannah Moscovitch evil. It doesn't make Daniel Hart evil. It doesn't make Ryan Kattner evil. It doesn't make Kevin Hanna, Anusree Roy, or Jonathan Ceniceroz evil. It might make them writers you don't enjoy. Cool! I have loads of those. It might mean the show is made by people you don't enjoy - fair. It happens.
But I implore you to temper your language. Some people are going WAY too far in calling for firings, violence, weird parasocial stuff in real life that is volatile and dangerous. Whatever you think that's going to achieve, it's not going to do it. At best, AMC decides it's not worth the hassle and cancels the show. At worst, someone gets really, really hurt.
Do we have to be reminded about what went down at SDCC last go around?
Now I'm pretty sure the parts of the Failures we didn't see in S3 are from the qotd story and those parts will be about the characters from qotd on their parallel journeys as Lestat is on tour and leading up to the concert where Akasha shows up.
In the book we do see these characters doing things before Lestat's one concert, so it makes sense that they would be doing things while Lestat is doing his tour and his album in the show. This is non-linear storytelling. I think we'll go backwards in S4 to see the POVs of key characters from qotd, as well as Devil's Minion's backstory together, including Daniel's turning.
To me it just makes sense that's what's on the records we didn't see this season and why we jumped and skipped over a lot of records and sides. I actually thought about this last night but had to sleep before I could post about it. I made a post earlier but I didn't elaborate so I'm doing it now lol

I don't care about the great conversion and the Talamasca BS.
I'm pretty sure at least 98% of the fandom only really care about the characters and the various relationships between the characters, and not some big oncoming apocalypse or whatever plot the Talamasca is enacting upon the characters. S1 and S2 were built entirely on character relationships and were fully character driven, and that's what viewers loved about the show. S3 is mostly about characters and their emotions, but there is also this plot being done to the characters on behalf of a shadowy organization nobody really knows much about, and it's boring. Akasha's destruction is character driven (in the book), and her relationship with Lestat is at the core and center. If the show is going to continue to be as good we need to keep the focus on characters, their relationship, and character-driven plot.
I still think Lestat should have had a seductive, luring, BTS's Pied Piper type song as a play on pop culture's thing about being seduced by a vampire and how he's their savior and their ruin

And Lestat himself becomes immune to burning to death.
