This affects how content is shared online. Period. This is censorship. If this is implemented it opens the door to the government deciding what you can share and when.

“Web services large and small might decide to implement the directive globally, which would diminish American users’ capacity to share memes, political satire, or news articles online.” (Meaning due to the European law, websites might just change how they operate world wide, so the rules placed on them they will probabaly inforce in countries who don’t have the law)

If this could affect Americans in this way, imagine how heavy handed it will be on those who actually live in Europe??

This is a way to control what you do, say, think and read. It’s put under the disguise of “copyright” protection, but you are a fool if you think that’s what this really is.

This also won’t just stop you as a viewer - they aim to place their attack at the point of upload, which means that you won’t be able to view content because the content simply won’t be uploaded.

And all those videos/content/fan works that are already online that you love and enjoy and revisit? Yeah, say goodbye, because those will be removed under this directive too.

Copyrights should be respected, especially if people are making money from someone else’s creations, but this directive is vague enough it opens the door for big companies to pretty much censorise whatever they want.

This is scary and will completely change what you can view on the internet. And please please don’t think that just because you’re outside the EU this won’t effect you. GDPR made it around the world because companies had to update their policy for one, so they updated it for all.

It may not become law in your country, but if the platforms have to adopt new policies to cater for the new law (and if that costs them a tonne of money which this will) the platforms will make it their standard policy and everyone will be effected.

Being out in the ocean is actually so scary because when you look really far out you can kind of see how the Earth is rounded out. You put the plastic on the windows to stop the heat from leaking out of your house from between the panes, through the glass itself, and where the window is attatched to the rest of the house.  This does make a drastic difference in the temeprature of your house and the amount of gas/electricity needed to keep it warm.

Some other Winter Things:

If you think there’s going to be an exceptionally deep freeze, you open up all the cabinets in the house to warm the air in there and keep the pipes from freezing/bursting.

If you’re going to be away for a while in winter, it’s adviseable to turn your water off to avoid the same.

Putting an electric Blanket between your topcover and bedsheet and pre-heating your bed for half an hour so you don’t get a chill going to bed.

Applying literal vasaline to your lips if you’re going to be in the cold for an extended time (more than 10-20 min, depending on latitude), becuase chapstick won’t cut it and your lips will split and bleed and HURT

Doing the same to your nose

Your tears go from liquid to gooey trying to produce a similar protection for your eyes.  You can also feel the water freeze on your eyes if you step directly out into the cold.

Also since I know you’re a socal person- in the far north you can get as little as eight hours of daylight. 7AM to 3 PM.  You need to by the most obnoxiously bright light possible and sit beside it or you will actually literally develop psychosis in some cases.  It’s 4:30 and you need to take the dog out? it’s pitch black out.

Everything is covered in ice, which will alternately cause you to slip and break something, burn, or actually tear off your skin.

Christmas and the pressure to be jolly is much stronger in places with Winter. Get your Holly Jolly On In this Frozen Black Hellscape!!!  It’s why people go real bananas on the holiday lights.  they’re trying to stave off the void.

Why You Should Actually Be Terrified Right Now

Stripping citizens of their passports is a precursor to genocide.

It’s what happened to Jews in Germany in 1938 when their passports were declared invalid. That is what is beginning to happen here, now, to Hispanic citizens along the U.S.-Mexico border.

Oh, is it bad to compare the GOP to Nazis? Well, if members of the GOP do not like being compared to Nazis, they should consider not behaving exactly like Nazis.

Hispanic U.S. citizens, some of whom were in the U.S. military, are not being allowed to renew their passports. This is reportedly happening to “hundreds, even thousands” of Latinos, according to a report in the Washington Post. They’re getting letters from the State Department saying it does not believe they are citizens. The government claims their citizenships are fraudulent. “I’ve had probably 20 people who have been sent to the detention center—U.S. citizens,” Jaime Diez, an attorney in Brownsville, told The Washington Post.

The Washington Post also reports on ICE officials coming to citizens’ homes and taking their passports away. This is an escalation from a few months ago, when Americans were detained by ICE officials just for speaking Spanish to one another.

The administration is currently launching an effort to take citizenship from people who they suspect of fraud in obtaining it. Fraud in these cases is exceedingly rare. The last time the government tried to strip people of their citizenship was, according to Columbia Professor Mae Ngai, during The Red Scare of the 1950s. As Ngai remarks, McCarthyism is not typically remembered as a good period in American history.

There is good reason to believe that this could portend still worse things to come for the U.S. Hispanic population, unless people begin to speak out loudly, and fast.
