It's always fascinating to me, how the same poem has so many more or less different translations. While studying Translation at uni understanding that there is not one 'right' translation was difficult for me. Translations can be off in so many ways, while there never seems to be a 100% right solution.
Korean vocab
사방팔방 - in every direction, from everywhere. (Deutsch: in/aus alle/n Richtungen)

(The last sentence might be weird without context, I heard it in a program about a dog, who routinely hurts himself while playing.)

So apparently because of an earthquake here in Korea the 수능 got postponed to next week. It's all over the news right now.

연기하다 - to postpone, delay (Deutsch: Termin (nach hinten) verschieben)
지진 - earth quake (Deutsch: Erdbeben)

Nice listening / reading practice for those trying to improve their Korean: watch 세상에 나쁜 개는 없다 on youtube. It's a program about a dog trainer who helps people train their dogs. The episodes are subtitled in Korean and there are a lot of episodes on youtube.

Visa application DONE~
For some reason my last few texts disappeared... Well, I don't care. BECAUSE I FINALLY FINISHED MY VISA APPLICATION YEEEAH It's not as if the application process was in any way difficult, but...still. I'm happy I'm done with it. Going back to Korea in 5 weeks.
My stormy-weather-lets-not-go-out-but-dream-away tune.
So... Day 1 of my Productivity Challenge. How did it go? A storm throwing rain against my window, me still being completely in awe because of the wonderful book I read yesterday ("Es ist gefährlich, bei Sturm zu schwimmen") and listening to Paolo Nutinis "Better Man" on repeat. You know, I DO have stuff to do. And I DO want to get going with my thesis and everything else, but actually I'm really happy with how I spent today. I used to spent almost all of my days like this, when I still went to school: Reading, getting all excited about the metaphores the authors of my favourite books used, making up my own little stories and listening to one song on replay for hours until I didn't even notice it being on anymore, because I just kept dreaming on and on and on. Then I guess all that pep talk about university admissions and careers got to me and I no longer read fiction or spent time listening to the same song on repeat or was excited about anything. I started reading books, because they seemed 'useful'. I started to say things like I was interested in economics and politics and while that wasn't really untrue either, I never got excited about it. Life became full of things I 'had to do' and slowly I started to dread all of them. So... I know I have to work on my thesis. But actually, even though I wasn't very productive on my first day of the productivity challenge, I'm just so happy and grateful to be able to be excited about something again.
Days of Productivity
I guess I'll give the 100 days of productivity challenge a try. ...starting tomorrow. goals: - get going with my translation thesis - work on my visa application - try to get a hobby just for the fun of it (don't be too ambitious and ruin it for yourself!) I hope I can just manage to go back to being productive without going overboard with everything and getting totally stressed out about things I don't really need to get stressed out about...

So I’m thinking about piercing my ears again. My mom recently gave me some of her old earrings, they’re really nice and I would love to wear them…
Apparently getting your ears pierced is quite cheap in Korea, so maybe I’ll wait until I’m there. (On a more realistic note: Probably going to get way too excited and getting my ears pierced in the first shop I’ll find)
