“Oh — God no,” Eva scoffed. She jerked back as if OFFENDED by the suggestion but laughed anyways, charmed by the absurd mental picture it prompted. Eva, a doctor? Insane. There was more than a slim chance that dating the Anatomy TA in college was the only reason why she hadn’t flunked. It didn’t bother her. They were cute together. “There’s NO WAY I could pull off the scrubs. They may work for you but, ugh, they’re terrible on me. I couldn’t live.” She shook her head. “I used to work the graveyard shifts at the television station and the videos they’d bring us —” Eva squirmed. “CRAZY the things they have on film.” It was strange to think of how such a cute young thing was so eager for it. “Oh, now that’s interesting,” she said, nodding, “So how many surgeries have you helped with so far? Or is this just a watch and learn sort of gig?”
“No...? Oh,” Lennox nodded in understanding. She could understand why people wouldn’t be so inclined to join the medical career bracket in any way, shape or form. It ate up a lot of one’s life and there was SO MUCH studying involved before a patient could even be spoken to, but Lennox was a firm believer in that even though it was hard, it’ll be worth it in the end. She would get to live a life that mirrored her more INTRINSIC morals, and there was nothing that she had ever wanted more than that. “The scrubs aren’t all that bad. They’re actually really comfortable -- they don’t look it, but really are. Besides, I’ve NEVER really been good at the whole fashion thing so I guess that works in my favour because I never really know if what I’m wearing is good or not,” she shrugged. Mostly, Lennox wore what was clean or what was comfortable, she rarely spent more than ten minutes picking out an outfit, and wearing scrubs took a lot of that pressure off, too. “Oh, you work in television? That’s pretty cool! What’s your FAVOURITE thing about that?” she asked, genuinely curious about that side of life. “Only a few so far, but they’ve been incredibly minor surgeries and mostly it’s just observation -- I’m only a few months in, so I still have a while to go before I can do more than that.”

Eva made a face, stomach rolling. She let out a breath only when the blonde assured her he survived. “Fascinating. Yes, I suppose that’s one way to describe it,” she replied flatly, lips tugging into a frown before she shook it out, rolling her shoulders. “OH NO, it’s totally fine. You’d think I’d be used to it by now, right? and this is what you’re studying so …” Eva shrugged before continuing, “you should enjoy it. At least I know if you’re ever working on me that I’m in capable hands.” She smiled. “I’m guessing you’re some kind of medical student?”
“It really is,” Lennox nodded in agreement. She often found things fascinating that weren’t exactly considering THE NORM by others, but what else could be expected from the girl that spent her childhood learning the anatomy of the human body instead of CLIMBING TREES with her friends. “Oh, are you in the medical field, too?” Though most would probably recognise the woman from the television, Lennox rarely watched anything that wasn’t on Netflix meaning that shows like the news often went unnoticed by the blonde. “It’s HARD WORK, but I definitely do enjoy it, yeah,” she smiled. “Oh, I’m not a student anymore... kind of. I’m a fully certified doctor,” Lennox explained. “I’m in my first year of residency at Northwest so I guess I’m technically a student all over again, just... able to do DOCTOR STUFF while I learn how to be a surgeon.”
evamendozas:
“Thirteen hours? What on earth happened to the poor sap on your table?” Eva couldn’t IMAGINE watching that. She’d seen a few unfortunate pictures at the studio — accidents, aftermaths, blood and guts and gore and — UGH. She shivered and quickly held up a hand, squeamish. “Please tell me this story has a happy ending first.”
“It was CRUSHED case,” Lennox explained. “The patient had been involved in a crash and a LARGE PERCENTAGE of his bones had been broken. I got to watch it from start to finish. It was actually quite fascinating, but yeah...” she noticed the woman’s reaction and trailed off. “Sorry, I sometimes forget that some people aren’t accustomed to this kind of talk. I’m -- I’m sorry, I’ll...” she zipped her lips and fell silent, offering the woman a sheepish smile instead. “--- Oh, uh... yeah. It’ll be a LONG ROAD, but he’s expecting to make a full recovery.”
galewanmd:
Gale could relate to how Lennox was so clearly feeling. She had too been an excited and overjoyed resident once, and despite being considerably less hyper than Lennox when it came to all things other than the hospital, she still managed to find a way she could see herself in her. One of the big reasons Gale chose to work at a teaching hospital was to be able to see those people she once was, and to inspire them like she’s been inspired by others. “You’re welcome.” She adored giving compliments to who deserved them, and she was sure that resident did. Gale could see the fire in her eyes, and she loved the drive inside of her. She had BEEN Lennox, and she knew exactly what she was thinking — no more ER duties, for Christ’s sake! Gale wished she could just outright tell her that despite how much she’d once hated of ER, the best thing that has ever happened in her life happened in an ER. But she refrained from the mushiness of her private life. She instinctively scrunched her nose at the comment, chuckling. “Thank you, I grew it myself.” She didn’t hold a slightly ironic note. As she was about to go back to taking notes, Lennox spoke again, just as eager as usual.
“The first thing I can say is that I was looking for the answer, I guess. He had so many injuries, it was hard to know exactly which one was causing him to code like that. At first I couldn’t even be sure it was the brain, but all the other surgeons were sure it wasn’t anything else.” She paused. “So I had to take a second look, check everything I’d done so far. It couldn’t have been the contusion, since I’d taken care of that already and he’d shown good response. Same with his diffuse axonal injury. The only cause had to be the through-and-through, which hadn’t shown any injury to the brain matter, very surprisingly. So the TEN SECONDS? That was me coming to the conclusion that he must’ve still had some pieces of glass in his head.”
Before she could even stop herself, Lennox was laughing at Gale's joke. It took a moment or two longer than usual to calm down afterwards, the sound that emitted from the young woman slowly came to a stop with a final hiccup and she covered her mouth with a fist as cherry cheeks grew DARKER STILL. “Sorry, that was -- that was funny. It uh - it actually reminded me of some jokes that my dad made. He was ALWAYS saying stuff like that. It's nice -- I think it's nice to hear someone other than me sharing in that kind of humour, you know?” She may have been OVERSHARING but Lennox didn't entirely mind. She was in a good mood and things at work that day seemed to be moving along smoothly. A small conversation like this couldn't exactly harm anything, could it?
As Gale described the TEN SECOND PAUSE, Lennox fell into an enraptured silence. Arms folded across her chest and she nodded silently as she soaked in all the information, making a mental note to look for those things if she ever came across a similar situation. “It was the AXONAL INJURY that had me worried. It's one of the leading contributing factors to diseases of the CNS system. I think I would've focused TOO MUCH on what could occur as a result of that. I mean, the possibilities are quite devastating.” It was probably a downfall attributed to her having a total recall memory, but Lennox could barely lift a scalpel without having already calculated each and every result that may or may not happen as a result of the injury or her actions. On the other hand, it made her very efficient when it came to her job and for that the cons could be worked around. Mostly, anyway. “I really ADMIRE how you work,” she then said, smiling with every syllable as arms unravelled. “If it’s possible, may I watch another one of your surgeries? When I’ve finished my rounds, of course. I would love to learn more from you. I think -- I think it’s your balance between INSTINCT AND KNOWLEDGE that is just -- it’s stunning. It’s where I often fail, and I would love if you could help me with that -- if you have... if you have time, that is.”
mishahue:
“Fair enough,” frankly, Michelle could not really relate to her friend’s statement, seeing as she didn’t exactly have that many acquaintances in her life; she always liked to think that those were the unfortunate perks of working in such a closed-off, dangerous field of work. “But… honestly, if you’d ever need some help with that ball of fluff, I am your gal, yes?” She wasn’t the biggest fan of any kinds of animals, but she definitely could tell she grew particularly close to Lenny’s furry friend, because why wouldn’t she? Just like her owner, the puppy was one of the cutest living beings she’s ever had the pleasure of seeing and meeting. “— anytime, sweets. I am here to tell you the truth and only truth,” she answered, faux saluting as she laughed softly. “Yeah, I can count those people on one hand. That’s if my hand had THREE fingers, of course.”
Misha shrugged her shoulders nonchalantly and once again, she let her right eyebrow rise upwards, “You know what Peter can do?” She asked, rather rhetorically. “He can shove an entire cactus up his big ol’ fuckin’ arse, that’s what he can do. – You’re talented, and he’s just some jealous twat who thinks that saying that will change anything, or make him smarter, or somethin’.”
“Of course,” Lennox grinned widely as she nodded. “I’m sure Stella would LOVE to spend some time with someone other than me, so you’re more than welcome to come over whenever you wish, just throw me a text or call and I’ll get the snacks and stuff ready.” Before she had met Michelle, the blonde had been bordering on LONELINESS and, out of a spur of the moment thing, Stella happened. Things had gotten better since then and now she had wonderful friends and an absolutely gorgeous puppy that was equally - if not more - excitable than her owner. WIN-WIN for everyone, right? “I appreciate that, I really do,” the first year resident chuckled. Lennox valued HONESTY above everything else, and while Michelle was quite blunt and considered rude to most people, Lennox was able to see through that and find the truth in her words and it was something that the blonde loved most about her friend. She said it as it was, and that was that. It was simple. Easy. “That can’t be true, Misha. You’re absolutely amazing AND beautiful. I think you have more than you’d like to see, and that’s okay. You’ll have me to remind you every time that you need reminded. I’m kinda AWESOME like that,” she jokingly flicked her hair and laughed.
As the brunette spoke, Lennox kicked off her shoes and bundled herself up on the couch with one leg underneath her body. She wrapped her arms around the other leg that was propped up on the edge, a small nod moving her head as if she somewhat agreed with Michelle’s observation of Lennox’s fellow resident. “He’s a really nice guy, he’s just --” she searched for an explanation that wouldn’t entirely insult the man before speaking again, “Peter is... COMPETITIVE. He doesn’t like to lose so it's understandable, I guess. Also, what is it with people wanting to shove cacti where it’s not supposed to go...?”
emeryxl:
Some degree of genuine confusion was apparent on Emery’s otherwise placid features, quirking an eyebrow as Lennox gushed. “Uh– right, I didn’t realize anyone aspired to have someone’s life in their hands for thirteen hours straight. Figured a lot of surgeons were functioning alcoholics actually,” a nonchalant shrug decorated his shoulders. Gaze drifting back to the day’s newspaper in his clutch.
“I guess not, but it’s more about the thirteen hours SAVING SOMEONE’S LIFE - that person is going to wake up tomorrow and be able to live a life that they were told was going to be IMPOSSIBLE TO HAVE. Don’t you find that amazing?” Lennox rambled as hands gesticulated everywhere. It was a romantic view on the career path she had chosen, but it got her through the day so was it really wrong? “Oh, uh -- I RARELY drink so I guess I’m the freak out of the norm?”
LENNOX MANNING: AESTHETICS ⥇ GENERAL
She was UNSTOPPABLE, not because she didn’t have FAILURES OR DOUBTS, but because she CONTINUED despite them.
lucacostanzo:
Luca’s expression didn’t hold the usual scowl of ANNOYANCE that she often carried when a resident irritated her. If anything, her expression boarded on disgust for Lennox’s choice of coffee only, not an nuisance. “You’re running on TOO MUCH sugar, Manning. How are you not feeling exhausted halfway through your shift?” She lifted a brow in question. “Why drink coffee if you don’t like the taste? — you could go with me to the cafeteria if you’re done with your rounds. Coffee here sucks, but it’ll do.”
“I think my diet is probably about EIGHTY-THREE PERCENT sugar these days,” Lennox chuckled. It was one of her main downfalls, after all. Sugar. The woman was pretty much obsessed with it when it came to food and the treats she ate on occasion. Plus, as a medical student turned resident, she needed the EXTRA BOOST - she wouldn’t survive without it. “Oh, I am. I usually have a small nap in the on-call room if I can. If not I just down a red bull and get on with it,” she shrugged. For someone who was a doctor, she sure didn't look after her physical health as much as she should’ve. “The effects? It helps keep me awake, plus it’s warm so that’s a second benefit. The bitter taste is just a minor issue I’ve learned to deal with.” With a quick glance at her watch, Lennox nodded at the woman’s suggestion. “I actually finished about fifteen minutes ago. I was just kind of lingering to see if anyone needed ADDITIONAL help -- but yeah, the cafeteria sounds good.”
fircfightcr:
He usually would’ve refrained from coming up to anyone and offering a beer — he knew how much of a CREEP that could make him seem. But it also wasn’t in Sloan’s nature to just leave that beer bottle full on the counter and go home, just as it isn’t like him to drink alone at bars. If he were to do so, he’d do it in the comfort of his own place. Sliding the bottle to the woman, he smiled, indifferent. “I’m fine, despite the being STOOD UP. I didn’t really want to come in the first place.” He gave a brief response, though not because of embarrassement. “My sister made me go on a date to cheer up her friend. I s’pose she didn’t really need cheering up.”
“Being stood up is THE WORST,” Lennox sympathised. “It’s happened a few times to me, too. I ACCIDENTALLY did it, too, but I did apologise profusely... I think the DAMAGE was done and he hasn’t spoken to me since, though.” The future surgeon’s face flashed momentarily with shame before fingers wrapped around the beer he had given her. “Well, I’m sure it’ll be her loss, not yours,” she continued, offering him a small smile before extending one of her hands. “I’m Lennox.”
