So, I remember having a ton of fun writing Wan Shi Tong's Uninvited Guests and I've always kinda wanted to continue it, but I can't figure out what the plot would be, so I haven't gotten very far. But I did write one scene that I think is funny, so thought I'd share.
“I’ve been wondering something,” Sokka said as he plopped down next to Zuko, where the Fire Prince was reading a book he’d picked up in one of the towns they’d stopped for supplies in. They were about a week into their collective journey to Ba Sing Se and Sokka could safely say that it was fucking weird having Zuko around.
Weird, but not completely terrible. Ish.
Because they were actually nice people, Aang and Katara immediately turned their attention to him. Even Iroh acknowledged him. Zuko, on the other hand… well, it wasn’t immediately obvious one way or the other, because he didn’t respond at all.
Sokka frowned, finishing his question, “how come you were able to bend in the Spirit World before? Like, I thought you couldn’t bend in the Spirit World.”
Zuko hummed, still not looking away from his book. “That’s true,” he said eventually, “but we were in a space between worlds, so the rules of both worlds kind of blurred. I was able to bend – but it wasn’t like normal bending. It’s – it’s kind of… if normal firebending is fueled by chi, then there, it’s fueled by… well, spirit.”
“Willpower might, perhaps, be a better way to put it,” Iroh said with a smile for his nephew.
“...you devoted your willpower to creating a light? Seriously?” Color Sokka unimpressed.
“That kind of makes sense,” Katara said contrarily. “I mean, when I tried to bend in the mist, I couldn’t. So it makes sense it would require something a little different.”
“Huh,” Aang said. “Well, how do you bend with willpower, then?”
