I put the last box in my car, “Wear your seatbelt and..”
I turn to look at Mouse (my best friend and roommate.)
“Don’t speed and please promise me you won’t live off of ramen noodles.” I pull her into hug, “Mouse I’ll be fine, you don’t have to worry.”
Mouse sighs pulling away from the hug, “You know I’ll always worry about V.” She smiles, “And you better not forget about me, when you become famous.”
She says with a smirk on her face, “I could never forget you Mouse.”
I grab her hand, seeing her tear up, “Mouse you know I’m gonna be giving you hourly updates.”
She chuckles, “You better.” She quickly wipes her tears away, “I’m gonna need a call when you get there.”
She gives me a stern look, “I’m serious you better call me when you get there.” I laugh, “I will.”
I glanced down at my phone, “I have to go.”
Mouse pulls me back into a hug, “I love you, drive safe okay.” I blinked my tears away, “I love you too and I will.”
I open my car door as I glance her way, “As soon as you’re settled in, we are so having a sleepover.”
I get into the car and I’m off. Leaving Mouse was hard, we’ve been through everything together. I don’t know I’d do without her.
I’m 23 but these past few years have been…difficult. A year ago my parents passed, car accident. I was still living under their roof. I had no other family, no one to help me.
My parents left everything to me including the house. I couldn’t afford the payments, then Mouse offered to room with me. I cried when she offered to help. Mouse and I met in kindergarten.
I remember when she came up to me on playground and asked me if we could be friends. That was the best decision I’ve ever made.
She has always has my back. It pains me to leave her but I know that our friendship will continue on.
Today I’m starting over, a fresh start. I’ve always wanted to be an actress so what better place to move to than LA.
I’ve been saving up and I found me a little place. I know it’s not gonna be easy but I’m gonna try.
I pull up to the drive way, seeing the house.
I rush out my car, pulling out my keys and unlocking the door. It’s dark. I feel around for the light switch, flipping it on.
It’s definitely a fixer upper for sure, but nothing a few coats of paint can’t fix. I went back to my car unloading my boxes into the house.
My other stuff wont be here till tomorrow. I rolled out my sleeping bag on the floor in the living room floor and passed out.
I woke up to someone pounding on the door. I jolted awake, what time is it?
I look over at my phone, 10AM! Shit.
I run to the door, swinging it open. The movers are here.
Oh God, I probably look like shit.
One of the guys smiles at me, “Violet Miller?”
“Yep, that’s me” I laugh awkwardly.
They handed me some papers to sign and they started unloading my furniture into my house. Now that everything’s set, this place is finally starting to look like home.
This place still needs a little fixing but that’s a problem for future Violet. It’s time to explore this new city of mine.
I quickly change and fly out the door, getting into my car. I park my car downtown and start walking. I don’t have any places I want to go to really but it’s a beautiful day today.
Let’s see where the wind takes me. This place is beautiful, the little shops are so cute.
My phone buzzes and that’s when I remember.
I forgot to call Mouse, she’s gonna kill me. I pull out my phone, calling her immediately.
It’s rings a little then, “VIOLET GRACE MILLER.”
She yells as I pull the phone away from ear for a second, “I know I forgot to call, I’m sorry.”
She gasps,”I thought you were dead Violet, I was about to call the police.”
I sigh, “I’m so sorry Mouse, I’m okay so you can clam down okay.”
She starts lecturing me as my eyes catch something shimmering in the front window of a little shop.
I stop seeing a necklace, it’s a sliver chain with a horse on it.
I stood there for a second just admiring its beauty.
It’s such a cute necklace.
“Hey Mouse, I’m gonna have to cal you back” I didn’t give her time to respond before I hung up and waked into the store.
I look around seeing a bunch of little knick knacks scattered around the store.
I looked at the resister seeing an older lady standing behind it. I slowly walk over to register, she gives me a smile.
“I’m doing good and you?”
She leans forward a little, “I haven’t seen you before, are you new to the area?”
I chuckle, “Is it that obvious?”
She laughs, “A little but this is a small town so everyone knows everybody here.”
I nod, “I just got here yesterday.”
She smiles again, “Well I think you’ll like it here.” “Moved here for any particular reason?”
“Um, I wanna be an actress” I pause, “I know it won’t be easy but you never know unless you try.”
She extends her hand out, “My names Lily but everyone just calls me Lou.” I shake her hand, “I’m Violet.”
“Nice to meet you Violet, now how can I help you?” I pause, trying to remember why I came in here.
“Well, I saw a necklace in window and I was wondering how much it is?”
“Ah” she says as she walks around the register, “The horse necklace.”
How did she know I was talking about that necklace, there are so many other necklaces in the window.
She walks over to the window as I follow behind her. She grabs the necklace and I get closer to inspect the necklace.
I look up at her and she smiles, “Why don’t you try it on?”
She points to the mirror and I place myself in front of it. She takes the necklace out of the box and puts it on me.
I placed my fingers on the horse, lost in the beauty of the necklace.
“How much?” I say turning back to face Lou, she shakes her head, “On the house.”
I shake my head, “Oh no, I couldn’t accept that.” She puts her pointer finger up, “I insist my dear.”
She smiles back at me, “You’re very welcome my dear and do come back anytime.”
“Of course” I waved to her as I walked out the door.
My thoughts were interrupted by phone ringing.
I scramble through my purse looking for my phone.
“Hello” I didn’t check caller ID so I have no idea who’s calling.
“Hey girl, where have you been?”
“Sorry, I just got here yesterday so I’ve been busy unpacking.”
She laughs, “It’s okay take your time but I do have a script if you’re interested.”
I gasped, “Kat, really?!”
“Yes, I know it’s soon but if you’re up for it, I can send it to you.”
I laughed, “Um, YES please send it.” I looked up taking in my surroundings.
I froze in place, there’s a boy.
He’s staring directly at me.
A bus blocks my vision of him but after it passes, he’s gone.
“Violet, Violet” oh, I’m still on the phone.
“Hey sorry, I’m here.” She chucked, “It’s okay, everything alright?”
“Um yeah just got distracted for a moment.”
“Well I’ll send you the script, read it.”
“Let me know if you want to audition for the role.”
I smiled, “Okay, thank you so much and I’ll get back to you.”
“Have a good rest of your day Violet.” I smiled, “You too.”
A role already, I’m so excited!
I get into my car, plugging my phone in as I hear it ding.
How did he get my number?
I shake my head, it doesn’t matter.
I put my car in reverse, checking my mirrors. I gasped, slamming on the brakes.
It’s that boy again, he’s in my backseat.
I turn around quickly to see no one there.
I take a deep breath, get it together Violet. I open up my eyes looking back into the rear view mirror.
I let out a breath I didn’t know I was holding, I backed up my car and headed home. I unlock the door and head straight to my room.
I fling open the dresser pulling out my pj’s, I need to shower.
I wrap a towel around myself as I get out of the shower, seeing the mirror is fogged up.
I take a washcloth and wipe the mirror.
I whip around to see nothing.
I inspect the bathroom, nothing.
I know I heard someone say hello, I’m not crazy.
God, am I losing my mind?
It’s just nerves Violet, chill.
I reach for my tooth brush, when my phone dings. It’s Kat, she’s sent me the script.
The audition is a few days away, I better start going over this now. I open the link she sent and I grab a note book.
I start studying the material, taking notes, learning the character.
The hours flew by and when I looked at the clock, 1AM.
I should get some sleep, I climbed into my bed and as soon as my head hit the pillow I was out.
