I won't lie, I'm not a huge fan of how the Remakes changed a lot about Leon. There are some good changes they made, but I miss the original Leon we got in 2. Was he appropriately horrified at the circumstances he found himself in? Debatable, they did that better in the remake. But he was also not a Puppy Dog Cutie Patootie. Leon's canonical background(what little we get of it) has him moved across the ocean from where he was born in Italy at a young age, and then he gets orphaned not long after that in an unfamiliar country because his parents were involved in crime in some way. He was saved by a police officer and decided he wanted to be that person for others when he grew up. He was probably put in Foster Care and I don't think any behavior we see from him indicates that he was ever adopted by a loving family. If anything, I'd venture to guess he may have ended up in a group home and learned how to be hyper-independant and fend for himself. We don't know where he lived before Re2, but he strikes me as a city boy in the OG. In RE4 OG, he was very corny and had some very silly moments, but he was also still doing a damn good job at looking after Ashley and keeping them both alive the whole time, so I like to think that the dumbass humor is his coping mechanism(and that he enjoys pissing people off, i.e. "Your right hand comes off?" in a completely serious tone).

I think the dynamic with RE8 Chris would be much more interesting with his OG characterization than with the remakes. With remake Leon, the dynamics are a little too predictable and in some cases, cliché for my taste–the whole Puppy Dog Rookie who swears as if he's a 12 year old and just discovered he could say fuck out loud x the jaded veteran badass operative is a little overdone, I wanna see something different.

Leon is well known in his field. In RE2, he survived Raccoon City, off to a good start. In RE4, he not only succeeded in reaching the President's daughter but also pretty much destroyed Los Illuminados on his own(I say mostly bc Luis and Ada did have their parts in saving his ass at the end there), in RE: Infinite Darkness, they talk about his reputation in the beginning and gas him up bc by that point, everyone know that he's the Baddest Bitch on the Anti-Bioterrorism scene as a solo agent. Another point is the fact that he's a solo agent and handles most things on his own. I could go on and list every big achievement that he has, but I'm not going to lol. HUNK came to throw hands with Leon himself on RE9 and I was really hoping to see Leon fight Walmart Wesker, as I've been calling Zeno simply because that was what I thought he was when I first watched a playthrough lmao. I always wished we got to see Leon vs Wesker bc it would've been epic. There's a post somewhere on here that I can't find right now that says that Leon is a planner while Chris is impulsive (if anyone finds it, link it in the comments pls 😩). I think this would make a huge difference in how Leon would handle Wesker.

So then we get Zeno and Leon meeting at the end, Leon is literally at death's door and still trying to fight, and Zeno doesn't really bother with a particular show of power, he just wants Leon on the ground and out of his way. I was hoping we'd get more struggle with the whole "Leon S. Kennedy, I've heard a lot about you." Or, even funnier(and creepier), "Leon S. Kennedy, Gideon hasn't shut up about you. And yet, here you are, at my feet." And then he'd grab Leon's hair and drag him and grin while Leon struggles but doesn't have the energy to even escape his grip(bonus points if Leon is trailing blood across the platform). Just some gloating going on, since HUNK was apparently so ready to meet THE Leon S. Kennedy. So, Grace could squeak out a "L-L-Let him go!" Bc that's her new dad, Zeno, why are you being so mean, he can't even fight back 🥺

(I will admit, it made me laugh my ass off that Leon, once again, has no fucking idea who this person is when they're low-key glazing him lmao. It happened in Death Island and was funny as fuck, now it's happened in an official game and it is still just as funny.)

But yeah, to tie back into your point about how Zeno was respectful, I just wanted him to be more disrespectful to Leon specifically. Put that old man through the wringer and then put him through it again, make me enjoy Discount Wesker more as a character for doing it to him.

You know something I don't see anyone talking about regarding the Pjo Show?

The generation switch. Percy and his friends are firmly Gen Alpha in the show, but those of us who grew up reading the books know damn well Percy and his friends are a Millennials through and through.

When the show was first announced officially, I put together a playlist that I named PJO Show Better Deliver. It was composed of songs like The Middle by Jimmy Eat World, I'm Just A Kid by Simple Plan, I Just Wanna Run by The Downtown Fiction, All The Small Things by blink-182, and a lot of other alternative rock songs and some pop songs from the early 2000's that make for a perfect soundtrack when reading the books if your imagination is as vivid as mine. We all know Percy was born in 1993, he would've grown up listening to all of those songs and they would've undoubtedly enhanced several scenes on a screen.

My disappointment when not only did they not have anything like that in the first two episodes(which is all I was able to force myself to watch when the show first dropped and I immediately realized that it was ass), but that they basically made the show digestable for the average Gen Alpha kid in this day and age in the most demeaning and miserable way, I deleted that playlist because it just made me mad. The PJO Show did NOT deliver and I felt like an idiot for putting my trust in Rick and especially Disney even more so. Even if Rick was less involved in the series and Disney had more creative control over it, they would've still turned it into something unrecognizable–I learned that the hard way when they made an Artemis Fowl Adaptation that was so astronomically bad that I've blocked the actual movie from my mind since watching it years ago. Disney ruins everything they touch. I don't trust them with anything anymore.

It upsets me that something that was supposedly being made for the fans who actually read the books and were there when the movies released and Rick shat on them as terrible adaptations was turned into an even shittier adaptation by that same man who lied to us all. Somehow, the movies are now more similar to the books than the show is.

If you watch the PJO movies, you can tell what they're adapting, even if they're doing a sub-par job at it. I'm exposing myself here, but I saw the movies first and then read the books afterward because I loved the movies. I noticed the differences, but also the similarities as I read. If you watched the show and then really liked it and read the books, you'd be severely disappointed or very confused about pretty much everything. That's a huge problem.

And I'll say it because I'm not afraid to be honest, I still kept loving the movies. Even if they were bad adaptations, they had good soundtracks, good acting, good humor, and are at least entertaining to watch. I can watch the movies as entertainment and enjoy them. I can't watch that show and do the same thing, because it held my hopes and trust and then stomped on both and is nothing like the books I hold so closely to my heart. Those books and those movies were there for me when I was going through the worst time in my life. I still reread and rewatch both. But this show? This show could not have done that for me even back then when I was still a kid. It has little substance in the way of cool mythical and magical encounters with reality mixed in. It's bland, it's dry, and it is borderline soulless.

This is not me saying Rick isn't allowed to change anything in his own series. I don't like race swapping whatsoever, but I'm not gonna shit on Annabeth's actress for it. I honestly figured that they would just give Leah grey eyes and the cuntiest blonde wigs they could find and send her out to be the self-righteous and capable Annabeth Chase I knew. I thought they would give Walker a black haired wig and green eyes(I could even let go of the green eyes since his are blue because the thing about Percy's eyes is that they're just like his father's and always are compared to the ocean. He'd simply have New Jersey Seaside Ocean Eyes instead of San Diego Ocean Eyes, either one works). I thought they'd find a guy who looked as similar to Walker as they could but they rlly didn't even bother trying with that. Rick changed things that were such important parts of his own story without beating an eye, but the biggest offence was how he just completely rewrite the entire story.

I always loved that the first book was not afraid to be gritty in its own way–referencing Percy's abuse at the hands of Gabe. But in the show, they neutered Gabe and then still turned him to stone like it was justified. Bro?? He was kind of a butthead, but nothing he did or said in the show warranted being murdered by Medusa's head even if it was an accident in the show. Were we supposed to laugh at that?? What's wrong with Rick and the producers?? The PJO books are so good at being silly and funny and yet serious and heartbreaking too. Some of the more gritty details flew right over my head as a kid, but as an abused kid who grew up poor and had ADHD myself and who often reacted to my situation the same ways as Percy does in the books, it felt good to be able to relate to a character in such a meaningful way. In the show, they toned everything down randomly bc it was apparently too gritty?? THAT'S A PART OF LIFE. I wouldn't expect a rich white man with a happy family to understand that though.

This turned into a bit of a rant about the show in general, but let me feel it back a bit now–Percy is a millennial and we should've gotten the most peak early 2000's media-type show. We should be gotten something accurate and so much better than this literal shitshow.

I'm gonna dumb this down as much as possible:

Adapting a book to film (live action or animation) is like translating a novel from one language to another.

The author, more likely than not, is NOT fluent in film; this is similar to a translation in that an English author is not fluent in, say, Spanish.

The author can and should be consulted: "what should the visible background of this scene be like in order to reflect the tone?" for film/animation; and "which translated verb most closely resembles the diction?" for written translation.

But, because the author is not fluent in film or foreign language, THEY SHOULD NOT BE THE ONE ADAPTING/TRANSLATING.

Rick Riordan had no experience working in film--- therefore, he has no business being the "EXECUTIVE PRODUCER". He should only have been hired on the project as a consultant, the writing, casting, directing, editing, and producing should all have been left up to the experts.

I think something very few people understand about Leon is he’s not impulsive. Everything he does he thinks though and weighs every option but he’s in such unstable situations, the craziest choice is normally the only choice and his lack of supplies or assistance from his organization means he is prepared to make those insane choices to survive.

Chris on the other hand, is very impulsive. He started this series as the man who refused to read instructions to make a formula not because he carefully considered he wasn’t trained in this field but because he didn’t want to read them. And his first instinct was the insane I’m gonna fight this monster plant with a knife and a knife alone and he has stayed that man. He has every option available to him, whatever equipment or man power he can have and his choice is still the most crazy plan he can think up. No second thoughts.

So in fact I’m raising you all Leon carefully laying out a plan to follow and Chris telling him boring and running at a tyrant with a knife.
