I honestly think Gen-Z and younger simply does not understand how recent widespread smartphone adoption is.
I am not that old, and I didn't have a smartphone until probably late high school. For most of my life, many if not most people were not walking around with a magic internet machine in their pocket that they pulled out and used constantly for everything.
reblog if you remember having to ration your text messages and accidentally opening the internet on your phone was the end of the world
i can’t leave off these excellent tags by @queerfictionwriter

this. and not to be all 'it's them damn phones!' [shakes grandpa fist at the sky] about it, but like. genuinely. this tech is SO NEW and the idea that it does have risks that shouldn't be de facto brushed off
we know that cars needed legislating for emissions safety and seatbelts; that lead needed to be removed from gasoline
we know that factories needed labour laws and legislation so children stopped losing fingers and dying in mines
the idea that the companies trying to force increasing dependence on relatively new & unregulated tech have ulterior profit-driven motives is not new. it is not reactionary. it should not be dismissed
it is not paranoia of progress or hatred of The Youth(TM) to NOT want the iPad generation to lose their brains or futures or attention spans the way that previous generations of children regularly lost fingers in the industrial textile machines
because corporations do not fucking care if the profits they're mining are depleting your future of resources, regardless of what those resources are. they Do Not Care. they will sacrifice your eyes and limbs and brain; your lungs and breathable air; a habitable planet in 50 years to make a quick buck Now
because they figure they can go fast and break things and GTFO with their millions or billions before the consequences come home to roost. they Do Not Care.
which means We Have To.

when someone is a christian they are not constantly asked their position on the holocaust the transatlantic slave trade the extermination of native americans or any of the thousands of atrocities committed by christians so why do muslims get asked about terrorism and jewish people about israel and are grouped in with specific bad people while christians are not required to explain themselves??
goyim and non muslims can and should reblog
[christians and all sectors of christianity that means you]
im singehandedly repairing jewish-goyische relations through my outreach with my facebook friends
I briefly forgot there were normal humans named Elijah and wondered why this person thought they were getting messages from Actual Prophet and Messiah-Herald Elijah the Tishbite.
….yeah me too.
Me three.
Imagine getting visions of someone else’s holy prophet and having to text your friends like “….what am I supposed to do with that?”
I have not laughed that hard in so long I literally cannot remember when.
"crochet can't be made by machines" went from being a cool fun fact to being a call to action of "so if you see mass manufactured crochet in Target, that was made by a person and they were underpaid and you should boycott it" which is true, it was made by a person, but EVERY item of clothing you own (that you did not purchase from a company using ethical labor) was made by a person being underpaid (at *best*.)
Sewing machines are operated by *people*. Knitting machines are operated by *people*. Yes lots of the process is automated but you cannot tell a machine "make me a t-shirt" or "make me a knit cardigan".
Higher awareness of fast fashion, and the true human labor and abuse behind it, is GREAT, but let's not pretend that the crochet hat in target is THE problem. Every article of clothing in target is the problem. "All clothes are made by people" is the jumping off point here into understanding this issue it's not just crochet it's the whole thing ahhhhHHHHHHHHHH
If you've ever seen images of sweatshops in the early 20th century, in New York or the UK or other developed countries
Guess what
Your clothing is still made in a place that looks like that. The only thing that's different is the tech level of the sewing machines and the race of the workers
This also applies to all plushies. Every single plushie is made by people, there is no way to make them without human labour.
Unless you buy them from small scale makers who make them themselves, this means they were made in a factory, the same way clothing is.
"I have never seen a cat that showed affection/love for it's owner" is the pet ownership version of "I don't believe in Female Orgasms they don't exist, after all, my wife has never had one"

hearing anything about the nolan odyssey is so funny. it's like "they cut the extremely important and infamous nobody scene" "the cyclops is a giant puppet that they put in an actual historical cave + gave circe animatronics for her pig transformation instead of cgi" "they dumped plastic skeletons in an environmentally protected location they were not supposed to be in" "they recreated ancient greek instruments in order to have an accurate score" "all of odysseus's agency is basically gone" "anne hathaway actually learned how to weave ancient looms" "the women in this movie are treated like shit" "they actually buried actors alive to get those underworld shots" "did you see what the fuck zendaya was fucking wearing holy shit you can't DO THAT, MA'AM" "what do you mean there was a legitimate epic the musical reference" "NOT A SINGLE FUCKING GREEK WAS CAST IN THIS MOVIE"
like did nolan have two guys standing at his side at all times whispering ideas in his ear and one told the truth and the other told lies and they didnt tell him which was which until they wrapped production cause
no piece of teen media has ever accurately depicted the quiet psychological warfare of bullying. bullies on TV are always dumb brutes and not the evil geniuses of emotional manipulation that they are in real life. being given a wedgie and having your lunch money stolen is nothing in comparison to a classmate quietly creating a taboo against speaking to you that they intend to enforce against all the other kids. it’s nothing like continuous cutting comments from people you thought were being nice to you. that way that the work of one kid can make you feel like every person on earth silently hates you and that you are dirty, disgusting, worthless, creepy and useless. that you can have friends but many of them will not speak to you at school for fear of the social consequences on their end. how that damage lasts in any social setting for the rest of your life
you can’t even “tell a trusted adult” because you cannot begin to articulate the thousands of small transgressions you’ve experienced building to the horror of knowing your peers would like you dead. they don’t have to say it or hurt you physically. they have other ways of letting you know they’d prefer if you were worm food
i love the linguistic trend of expressing something difficult to describe by just not including an adjective where there usually would be one. “i had a day today,” or “he’s definitely one of the characters of all time.”
it’s like i can’t describe this so i just won’t. you get it tho.
say what you will about the reserve bank of india these are some cracking coins
Emos & scene kids got this close to abolishing gender for real. I try not to think about it too much.
The idea of a popular teenage subculture where girl & boys pretty much all dress the same feels impossible now but for a while it was reality and it was beautiful.
Normalize people with chronic illness taking sick days, coming in late, cancelling plans, not being able do do something in time. People's illness should not be held against them like a threat and people should not act surprised if someone who is chronically ill aczually falls ill. This is not "we are ok with you as long as your illness is under control and you function normally" this is "we are aware that you are chronically ill and will actually show understanding when your illness keeps you from performing".
Hello. Since I've seen people submit finished wheels, I thought I'd submit a wheel I came up with. In this case, it's a wheel to tell you something that you can't do for a week.

How bad is this for you?
