my notifications are once again devolving into a spirited debate about the ethics of actions that could potentially make someone uncomfortable, and at risk of sounding like someone about to get a lot of irate anons I think we're frankly giving way too to much moral weight to hypothetical discomfort

the thing about discomfort is that it's an extremely nebulous category that can be triggered by virtually anything and that's far too broad a category to have any inherent moral quality to it. like. my mom was mad uncomfortable when I stopped shaving. that didn't mean I was doing violence against my mom it just meant she needed to get over herself. many such cases it must be said.

it bothers me when someone brings up misogyny in shounen anime and people shrug it off with "its designed for teenage boys, what can you expect." like well. idk i think its actually pretty important that shows for teenage boys are normal about women. i mean i think all media should be normal about women but teenagers are impressionable i think we could put a little bit of feminism in the teenage boy shows. it might do some good. you never know.

upsetting to see how even in 'progressive/left' spaces, ableism & in particular saneism is the comedy punchline. Like yippee they're cool about trans people but they also did a joke where the entire humour was 'man pretends to be psychotic/schitzophrenic.' And not even including the jokes that make me feel oversensitive for pointing them out, like 'person moves atypically,' or 'person doesn't speak conventionally.' "Oh but its not about disability its about an alien trying to be human" etc. sure cool but just because you didn’t think about disabled people when you made it doesn't mean its not ableist. (Still second guess myself for this one but sticking to my guns).

makes me think of that one video of Hideo Kojima being shown a sample of a zombie in a video game and responding (paraphrasing) 'why is this scary? That's how my disabled friend moves.'
