Ed gets away with a lot of bullshit that he shouldn't while in the military. Obviously, a lot of it is his age. But I think Roy 'Desolation of Ishval' Mustang probably secretly likes that Ed is insubordinate and constantly questioning him.

Yes, he gets frustrated with Ed and he's entirely willing to manipulate Ed to get the results he wants if the situation calls for it. But so long as Ed continues to question orders, Roy can be sure he'll never repeat Roy's own mistakes and massacre thousands of people indiscriminately just because he "had orders" to do so.

The only time I can think of where Roy really pushes the "you're a soldier, act like it" shtick is when Ed is questioning him about Maria Ross's death. And in that case it's probably less wanting Ed to follow orders and more needing to control opsec on a need-to-know situation. A loud mouthed 15 year old is the last person you let find out you just circumvented your own orders and smuggled someone you were supposed to kill out of the country. Especially in a military like Amestris's.

In which case, Roy really was treating Ed like a fellow soldier, in as much as giving Ed plausible deniability, covering his own ass, and lying to other soldiers is a thing Roy is very practiced at.

difficult thing about writing grace pov fic is trying to think of literary/narrative touchstones for him. he would not know anything about austen and he'd associate her with shallow romcoms and bridgerton. he thinks wuthering heights is just a kate bush song and he's never heard any other music by her. i hate him so much.

he has strong doctor who opinions. tragically he would love thirteen the best due to the turn for hard science and less political themes, BUT he easily could've been persuaded not to watch it by dudebros on the internet. i can see him being a very basic tenth doctor fan. on the other hand, he may be a real geek for classic who and the first doctor in particular!

This is a "plein air" painting which means I set up my easel right across the street of this Chase bank in my city and painted it like it had caught fire. The police questioned me on the spot. Three weeks later Homeland Security was knocking on the door to my home. The question they kept asking me was "Do you hate these banks?" I can honestly say yes.

And I just think this is the greatest artist statement I’ve ever read.
