Caramelldansen is the ultimate relic of the past because it wasn’t just a meme song it was a Nightcore remix meme song that got even more popular than the original.

It’s not Nightcore, it predates Nightcore. The term you are looking for is Speedycake. After the late* DJ Speedycake.

The dance used in the vast number of 2d anime-esque caramelldansen vids has nothing to do with Caramell; it came from a gif on 4chan referred to as “Popotan dance” that started as fanart of an adult visual novel because of course it did. Speedycake was making his remixes at the same time as people were making popotan dance gifs of everything, and the memes converged into a compound supermeme that swept the internet.

The video above is yet another fan-made video, using 12 characters from the iDOLM@STER series. (Hint: the band that created the song is Swedish, so anything obviously Japanese did not come from them).

The first official video released by Caramell was this version, six years after the song was first released and two years after it started to spread as a meme:

I remember being in the theater and I was out of the fandom (or so I had thought at the time) at that point but me and my childhood bestie went a week after it premiered for old times sake and it was like half full with apparently the same kinds of people as us. This moment hit and EVERYONE gasped. As characters died left and right people were FREAKING OUT. My besties’ fav was seth and when he died, she LOST IT. people were chattering to each other in complete disbelief.

And then the vision ended and a collective sigh of relief echoed through the theater.

I’ve never seen a large group of people be collectively punk’d before… but I would have paid BIG MONEY to be at the ACTUAL premier of this movie and see teenagers lose their actual shit. Us adults calmly let our hearts break… teenagers? That would have been a riot to witness.

y’all i went to the premiere with my aunt and when that terrible cgi carlisle head came on screen my tiny ass aunt jumped OUT OF HER SEAT and squatted on it and i threw (literally threw) (on accident it was an accident) our MEGA sized popcorn onto the girl in front of us and she turned around with this terrified look and i shit you not just pointed at the screen and said “what the FUCK is this”

the entire theater (very small, but full - probably like fifty people) was going fucking mad, people were standing up, and as soon as the vision ended it got so quiet, some people fell to their seats absolutely fucking exhausted, many audibly sighed, and one girl in the front said loud enough for everyone to hear “well that was wonderful”

I saw BD2 the weekend it premiered alone (pretty sure I was alone). This was like just as I was seguing into a different fandom and just wanted to see it for closure.

The horror I felt when I saw Carlisle’s body just slump. The girl next to me (complete stranger) screamed and like grabbed onto my arm so tight ot hurt. Everyone (moms and teen daughters) in the theatre legit was panicking and I lost my damn mind when Leah died.
