fuck i just remembered the letter from charles to adam in east of eden. the splatter of ink in the middle of the letter, and then the switch to pencil. the letter becoming progressively darker and more fucked up as it goes on. charles writing that he couldn't get the house clean, he just spreads the dirt around more evenly. the creaking of their mother's rocking chair. the sense of unfinished business wrt how he almost killed adam, contrasting with his clear loneliness and affection for adam in that he wants adam to stay with him. the way he took so long writing the letter he started at night but it was dawn when he finished. NOT SIGNING HIS NAME BECAUSE HE DIDN'T MEAN TO SEND THE LETTER BUT HE SENT IT ANYWAY AND ADAM IS SO UNNERVED BY THE LETTER BUT HE KEEPS IT AND REREADS IT FROM TIME TO TIME LIKE WHAT THE FUCK

for those of us watching in horror from the sidelines, one of the best things we can do right now is donate to immigrant justice legal services, like the National Immigrant Justice Center or a local group in your community
in the longer term, we can all help by speaking out in support of immigrants and against these xenophobic deportation campaigns â in public discourse and in caring but firm one-on-one conversations with loved ones who've been swayed by hateful anti-immigrant rhretoric
Mark Zuckerberg making all of these loud and sudden signals of friendliness to conservatives on culture war issues just in time for Trump to take office and decide whether or not to kill the FTC's anti-trust case against Facebook is a good reminder that elites will always care about economic issues 1,000 times more than they care about cultural issues. They will accept any cultural politics so long as it doesn't touch their money
I wish all my writers a happy new year. May all your stories finally be written, sentences be completed, emotions be evoked with beautifully crafted words, readers be moved to tears, the urge to create be satisfied.
âOh. Gege is quite bold tonight.â San Langâs eyes filled with mirth, mouth smirking. His hands caressed his thighs lightly, teasing.
Xie Lian realized he was being quite shameless now, beyond shameless. However, these wretched thoughts of his have been plaguing him for days now and although he spent practically a millennia exercising restraint for the sake of cultivation, his inhibitions were not so solid these days. He canât say he dislikes it, but there are moments like these when he marvels at his own ability to still act so spoiled. But then again, San Lang does so love to dote on him.
In fact, heâs been pleasuring Xie Lian to both of their heartsâ content. Surprisingly (or unsurprisingly), a lifetime of lack had a way of building up desire. Like a man starved, Xie Lian finally had a feast set before him; could one be blamed for the partaking?
Xie Lian, for all the time it took to work up to this point, was always left satisfied and always worked to ensure his one and only was properly taken care of. He liked the things they did together, even if it still made him blush to even think of it.
However, their time together often ended up in one specific way: with San Lang inside him, rocking their bodies together until they both finished. He may still blush and stammer, but he could say out loud that he liked San Lang taking him. In quiet moments, he found his mind drifting towards memories of their various couplings. Even in sleep he could not escape them, often waking with an uncomfortable reminder between his legs that was quickly taken care of by his San Lang.
It wasnât a passionate night that triggered this boldness, which he might have found embarrassing if heâd been the only one so affected.
A few days ago, with some free time on their hands, they both decided to spend it by sparring. These days, neither had many battles to face, especially not against worthy opponents, so they used each other to keep their skills intact. It was during this spar that Xie Lian had teased San Lang, which had managed to catch the other man off guard just enough to give Xie Lian the upper hand. When he took advantage, it ended the spar with the great Hua Chengzhu lying on his back with Xie Lian poised above him with sword pointed down at his throat.
Seeing San Lang like that, lying so helplessly on the ground and panting with unneeded breath, looking towards Xie Lian with that tender look in his eye, stirred something within him.
âI give, I give. I am at gegeâs tender mercies,â San Lang had said, voice languid. Heâd looked so satisfied then, as though he was exactly where he wanted to be. San Lang was clearly many things, but a sore loser wasnât one of them.
But Xie Lian hadnât been thinking about any of that at all, then. Heâd put away the sword and helped San Lang up. Heâd put on one of his smiles and told him how good the spar was. Later, when they both prepared for the night, San Lang had questioned him (of course heâd noticed how strangely Xie Lian had acted), but Xie Lian could only bite his lip and say he wasnât ready to speak about it. San Lang, as always, let it go, waiting for Xie Lian as he always did. As he always would.
âSo, are you ready to speak about whatever was bothering you?â he asked now. His fingers stopped their sensual motions, expression growing more serious. How can he always tell whatâs on my mind? Is he just that good or am I that predictable?
âYes,â Xie Lian tells him. âThough I wouldnât categorize it as a bother. It was just something new, something I hadnât considered before.â
âAnd youâve been considering it?â
Oh has he ever. These past few days have been filled with nothing but his considerations. After their sparring, his dreams were pleasant but murky. It was an abstract form of pleasure with nothing concrete. It wasnât until he took his bath the next day that he really began thinking back on it concretely, going over everything to see what the catalyst for his unusual reaction had been.
It wasnât long until he was picturing San Lang, lying sprawled on a bed instead of the floor, face twisted in pleasure. He went even further, imagining him restrained, unable to escape as Ruoye tied his wrists together. He lay there, as Xie Lian touched and pleasured him whichever way pleased him, reveling in San Langâs moans and hitched breaths. As the blood rushed down, his eyes had snapped open with the realization that he found the idea of San Lang at his mercy to be immensely pleasing. Heâd immediately been filled with guilt and disgust. How could he feel good about wanting to have another person be helpless before him? What does that make him? He would be no different than-
That had immediately put a stop to all his fantasizing. Instead, he went to the library. If he could not understand his condition and he couldnât talk to anyone else about it, then perhaps a book would contain the solution. San Lang was a well-read man and kept all kinds of knowledge heâd collected over his long existence. That meant he had some knowledge that some might call unorthodox. Others might refer to it as perverse. There were the usual spring books, filled with drawings of men in various stages of undress and pleasure. There were things there that were quite familiar to Xie Lian by now, so he looked upon them with a straight face, flipping between pages to see if he could find anything that would help him. When nothing came up, he decided to diversify his search and finally managed to come across a strange text that proclaimed to be about unusual sexual habits amongst the nobility. It had immediately embarrassed Xie Lian and he wondered what San Lang thought of him after having read it, but he quickly reassured himself that his San Lang was not the sort to make such hasty judgements.
As heâd flipped through the text, he found many interesting (if mortifying) insights into the psyches of the prominent members of society. They spoke of excess and an unsatiable lust for more, leading to the development of bizarre tastes. They also spoke of another thing which caught his eye; the powerful already had power, so they no longer found it titillating. This is why it wasnât uncommon for powerful men to seek out courtesans who would demean and degrade them, who would be told to do whatever they pleased to their wealthy benefactors. The thought of losing their power and control was an exhilarating experience, leading to a satisfying performance.
While Xie Lian found this theory interesting, he couldnât relate much to this particular experience. Itâs true he was once a powerful prince and a god, but he had never indulged in such acts as they went against his cultivational path. Besides, whatever power he had attained had lived a very short life. Xie Lian had ended up losing everything, in the end, and spent most of his existence as a poor wandering cultivator. Heâd been unlucky enough to be driven out of many towns and ended up begging if his scrap collecting wasnât successful. All this to say, heâd often ended up at the mercy of the world and its whims. He tried to find his balance, but it did not last.
Now he knew it wasnât the universe being particularly cruel, but the work of one particular being, hellbent on ruining his life and twisting his fate.
Xie Lian never wanted to be under the control of another, at least not in that manner.
Instead, he sought ways to empower himself, though he never wished to do it at the expense of another. So, to have these fantasies really bothered him. He did not wish to degrade his San Lang or cause him pain. But he did dream of him writhing beneath Xie Lian, unable to escape his ministrations. Not wanting to escape, either. Xie Lian found that the thought of doing something San Lang may dislike did not spark pleasure down his spine. The thought of forcing San Lang into anything only made him curl in disgust and displeasure. He would never want to hurt him in such a heinous manner.
One thing he understood is that although San Lang was seemingly restrained in his fantasies, he was always there under his own volition. He wanted it as much as Xie Lian did. But that was only a projection of his own mind, a soothing of his own conscience. The reality might be much different; San Lang may never want to do such a thing with him. Ah, but Iâm putting words in his mouth. Who knows how heâll feel about this.
But to find out, one must first ask. And isnât that a mortifying ordeal. Xie Lian has gone through numerous trials and tribulations, suffering untold horrors and living to see another day.
Heâs never had to speak about his specific fantasies with his lover before to inquire if he would enjoy them as much as Xie Lian does. He felt himself flush and covered his face though he was entirely alone right now. He can barely think about it, how was he supposed to speak it aloud?
