If all the survivors were in a fantasy setting, what kind of mythological creatures/hybrids would they be? (If all survivor are too much, then just Dwight, Claudette, Jake, Feng and Nea! )
hmm what an interesting thing to think about! let’s see what i can think of here…
A Hyter Sprite is a “green-eyed fairy from East Anglia, England” who helps lost children find their way home by turning into a sand martin, a type of small bird.
I picked this one for Dwight because I feel as though he, in every life, would always want to help those who need it.
Even if it’s something small, he wants to be there in order to fix problems in situations, especially for children who didn’t mean to lose their way in a forest.
An Epimelides is a type of Dryad (tree nymph) from Greek mythology, that would protect fruit trees, meadows, pastures and sheep.
Although the Epimelides were not truly fleshed out in mythology, I’d like to believe that Claudette wants to protect nature and wildlife just as much as she likes to sustain human life.
As an Epimelides, Claudette would be able to say what can and can’t be taken from the forests, and help people by preventing them from going hungry while still informing them that the forest is living and breathing as well, and that people should respect it for what it is and will grow to be.
Elf (specifically, a Wood Elf)
Elves, as many people know, are a species indigenous to thick brushed forests. However, a Wood Elf is a kind seen the Forgotten Realms, which have a stronger tie to nature and are more calm spirited than others.
Jake respects his surroundings more than he respects people, and as an elf, he has responsibilities and ties to the nature he lives with.
Living alongside the wildlife and being incredibly reclusive fits in with his demeanor already, so Jake would be incredibly comfortable as an elf. Plus, his skill with tools and handiwork would become incredibly useful while living beside nature.
Tying into Nea’s Swedish origins, the Valkyrie are the “Choosers of the Slain,” who pick out men who will die in battle and bring them back to Valhalla upon their passing.
Nea is a very tough person, but she’s still very willing to look after others. She wants to make sure that if, something were to happen to someone else, she would be able to be there for them.
She simply wants to give people the afterlife they deserve after a long and tiring life, ready to hold out a hand when someone has fallen.
Something similar to that of Jingwei
The story of Jingwei is that of an Emperor's daughter—who was playful and mischievous—going out to sea one night and drowning in a storm. She returned the next day in the form of a bird, which would then throw pebbles into the sea in an attempt to fill the ocean for it’s wrongdoing to her.
For Chinese people, this tale has messages of diligence and the strong will to keep going forward.
I feel as though Feng Min would have the same kind of influence, willing to show others that it’s okay to move onward, even if you’ve been wronged or hurt, but never to give up.
