Outcomes Workshop
So this workshop was all about us understanding what our marking scheme was actually asking us for, breaking them down into their simpler, more understandable components.
For some of these statements it was super useful, because I will look over some of these sentences and just turn off because of all the pretentious academic terms.
Eventually it all boils down to “Keep experimenting, show your workings, and Do Cool Stuff ™”
An example of what the mission cards might look like when in-game!
They will have details of the request, the due by date, the requester and the difficulty of the request is indicated by how filled in the logo at the top is.
I think this would be a really cool thing to experiment with next semester, like I could get the cards printed like business cards and the logo done in metallics? I’m getting pretty excited to get to play around with everything!

Photo Manips! I'd really like to have some of these printed by the time we get to exhibition, also to get better at photo manipulation. I might attempt to do something by tomorrow morning but who knows!

This is just a very brief experiment, that will be expanded on when I know all the elements that need to be put into play.
The bits I know are going to be there is some kind of menu bar and a date clock.

“Twilleir.”
It sounds appropriate, you think. The sun streams past the bit of paper that you hold in front of you, positioning it where the sign would hang from the front of your store.
You can’t wait for it to be open, for you to finally start making Dreams.
As you let your arm fall to your side you notice a sharply dressed gentleman making his way towards you. Dark hair is slicked back, making his pointed ears even more prominent. He looks young, but you can never be sure with the L’Hallen.
“Good day, you must be the new owner of this particularly,” He pauses slightly, looking at the run-down face of the small storefront you stand in front of. “Old shop.” He finishes. He notices you looking askance, and hurries to collect himself.
“Pardon me, I have forgotten my manners, I am Fen’Hallen, the landlord for all the properties along this street.” He meets your eyes with a warm smile. “I must say, I am incredibly glad that you decided to take a chance on this store, it’s always had trouble keeping its Shopkeepers around.” He sighs, clearly thinking back on the past.
“Previous owners haven’t been able to keep their rent up, and it hasn’t had one for so long that it’s fallen into disrepair.” You falter, a small dent in your confidence, but you recover just as quickly. You know exactly what you got yourself into when you agreed to rent this lot, and you let Fen’Hallen know what’s on your mind.
He laughs, pulling out a pair of keys from his inside breast pocket.
“Well, in which case, we should probably acquaint you with the inside of the store!”
The bell above the door jingles slightly when it’s pushed forward on old, creaking hinges. The golden sunlight from the windows illuminates the floor, highlighting the dancing dust motes that float lazily around the room, landing carelessly on neglected sale surfaces and the dirty glass of the counter.
“Well, I certainly do have some work to do.” You say, as you walk briskly into the shop. There’s excitement in your eyes. You knew there’d be a challenge, possibly not this much of one, but now you’re here you’re willing to take it up.
“Where do I start?”

Social VR is something that Sammie talked about a lot, the ability to use VR in a social context, to use it as a platform for social gatherings that feel more immersive than game play currently is with Voice chatting and text. I think that to use VR in this way could make it go a lot further than the gimmicky feel that has snuck into games very quickly. I hope that the applications of this amazing technology can go so much further than it is right now.
Sammie also made it very clear that VR meetups are going on so often, and that we would be welcome to attend all of these events! (VR World Congress, VR Girls UK)
BAFTA and UKIE are great places to look for jobs in the VR industry, also.
I loved Sammie’s enthusiasm when she came to talk to us, about how she worked through being a start-up company and how she managed to stick with it long enough to get where she is now.
When she came in to talk to us later she was interested in our projects, those that lent themselves to VR more heavily were paid more attention, but i don’t blame her for that!

It was super fun to run around Southampton Common all dressed up, and luckily we could figure out the camera enough that we got some nice pictures!
This was a shoot to play around with the characters and lore, from page to “reality”.
It gives the world of Twilleir some more depth as we understand our game through acting out certain scenarios, and I really look forward to getting to do this more often in Semester 2.
These photos are also perfect to use as first hand reference, and gives us a good starting point for further concept art later on.

1-1 with Adam
Today I had my one to one with Adam about moving forward with the project, which in this case was going to be one of the games that we’d come up with as a team (Jess, James).
There were concerns that James was attempting to monopolise the team by inserting himself into a managerial role, but Jess and I aren’t worried so much about that now.
It came up that I needed to demonstrate how my Ideas connected to my research and to work on linking all of the phases together, which I should do by making a quick video about that.
It was also a point that I look up previous successful tycoon and Point and click games, to see which ones worked and which ones didn’t.
I should also be user testing my blog, to make sure that it is clear about where the user needs to go and that everything can be found, I believe this can be remedied through the use of a navigation page.
He also said he wanted to see:
> some character iteration and development, telling him Why these things existed
> A Concise presentation of my 3 ideas and my input, how the “GDD” would work and how I’d show my input.
> how would we code the document to make sure it’s clear who did what?
> Would the GDD even be looked over by a AAA studio in this way?
>Would it be developed by a Co-Op, Web or Opensource instead?

Inside the sketchbook is all of my research and material that I looked at compiled and all the avenues that I looked into.
Most of it is just holding the material, my actual notes are compiled into power points seen in the Topics tag.
