Literally obsessed with this image.
Thinking about Shane learning the Russian words for âmy little bearâ because Ilyaâs so large and imposing but so soft and his hair is so fluffy- but he also delights in knowing he can use it on Ilya to needle at him and sweetly annoy him. He can imagine Ilyaâs faux-irritated brow crease, followed by wrestling Shane into the couch to prove heâs no little bear- heâs a grizzly bear whoâs going to eat Shane for breakfastâŚ
So he works to get the pronunciation down, and finally springs it on him one day when Ilyaâs just come in from the lake, hair air dried and floofy and heâs all open limbs and soft edges.
The moment the words fill the space, Ilya goes silent, and tears start to fall. Shane panics, and closes the gap between them to hold his husband close with a crushing grip.
âWhatâs wrong? Did I not do it right? Did I say something bad?â
Ilya stays quiet for a moment, trying to control the inevitable break in his voice when he speaks. When it comes out, itâs wet, and wounded, like blood seeping out the mouth of an injured animal.
âNo, no. Itâs ok- my mama, she-â another small sob. âShe used to call me that. I have not heard it in a very long time.â
Shane knows he doesnât need to reply, or to fill the following lull.
He just needs to stand there. Solid and unyielding.
Arms a vice around Ilyaâs torso, large hands stroking down the damp skin of his back. Soothing kisses pressed like a comforting brand to his temple, his cheeks, his eyes. Urging the tears to flow because they need to. Loving his man exactly how he needs to be loved.
Shane and Ilya celebrate anniversaries with a frequency that baffles their friends. They just love having a reason to celebrate the fact that they made it through all the bullshit and now get to love each other openly.
Ilya maintains that the wedding with the Pike children is their wedding anniversary, while Shane insists that the day they got legally married is. Consequently, they each plan the celebrations on the day they feel counts (and it is a constant competition of trying to one-up what the other one planned).
Shane is also of the belief that their relationship anniversary is the day Ilya called himself Shaneâs boyfriend for the first time but Ilya counts from their conversation in Tampa, which is when they became exclusive (regardless of the fact that this was not discussed between them). Again, they celebrate both days.
They both want to celebrate the first time they told each other they loved each other but Ilya insists that the time he said it in Russian over the phone counts, so two separate anniversaries it is.
Ilya insists on celebrating the first day Shane flirted with him and Shane agrees because the first day they met is a special occasion, although he still maintains he wasnât flirting ("Shane, you shook my hand twice" "I am not having this argument again"). So they also mark their draft day, as the first day Shane picked up on the fact that Ilya was flirting.
Of course they celebrate the CCM shoot day, it was their first kiss, their first sexual experience together, the day everything changed, but they also celebrate their anal-versery and the first time they fucked without condoms.
Ilya insists on marking the day they met on the ice for the first time as the first time he beat Shane, so Shane decides the day he won Rookie of the Year (the only award either of them has that the other has no chance of ever winning) deserves to be celebrated.
One time they said they couldnât make it to post-game drinks because it was their anniversary and Troy asked, âoh, which one is it this time?â only to find out they were celebrating the first time they had phone sex. After that the Cens learned not to ask questions.

i have a condition called "being a johnny cage fan" it is uncurable
The term "gay sex" implies the existence of other kinds of sex. But that is of course liberal propaganda
Itâs still wild to me (but not surprising) that they were styled in the exact same outfit for these photoshoots
I have such a fat crush on Ilya I wish he was real
âsugar plumâ - @hollanovmicrofic - wc: 504
âoh!â
shane feels ilya jump beside him and quickly tightens his grip around his husbandâs arm. his eyes shoot down to the floor looking around for the danger. what he finds is an enthusiastic golden retriever of one or two years old snuffling the back of ilyaâs knee. deciding the threat isnât actually threatening in the slightest, shane lets go and steps away so he can observe ilyaâs reaction from a distance.
âwhy hello!â ilya earnestly giggles in delight and shane falls even more in love with him than should be possible. ilya scans left and right quickly for any indication of whoâs dog this is. he lands on a printed picture of the retriever laminated and stuck to a nearby shelf. the sign below it reads âsay hi to our shop dog! sheâs friendly!â
âah, you are a working girl, i should have know,â ilya grins, squatting down to her level, âand what is your name?â
he fights against her constant excited wiggling to twist around her magenta collar, a distinct metal jingling filling the air. ilya gets a hold of her tags and his whole face scrunches up in deep offense.
âsugar plum!â ilya exclaims, disgust evident in his voice. shane has to shove a fist in his mouth to stifle his laughter, âoh no, ĐźĐ¸ĐťĐ°Ń Đ´ĐľĐ˛ĐžŃка* that is⌠unfortunate.â he starts to scratch behind her ears and her drooling tongue enthusiastically tries to lick his left wrist, âsugar plum is not the name of a sophisticated lady like you.â
sugar plum, completely oblivious, flops over happily on the linoleum floor so ilya can scratch her belly.
âhmmm, thereâs yelena. good name. have you seen the black widow movie? yelena is blonde and very fierce like you,â heâs rubbing rapidly over her fuzzy ribcage and sheâs pawing at him for more, âhow about zlata? you know what zlata means?â
his hands stop and sugar plum-yelena-zlata blinks at him once, twice before barking impatiently.
âgold, yes! what a smart dog you are! shane, did you see-â he looks up for the first time, eyes immediately clocking the phone in shaneâs hands, âyou have been recording this whole time?â
shane nods and his phone nods with him. an evil smile threatens to cross his face as he waits for ilya to realize his plan. ilya turns back to sugar plum when she jumps up to her feet again, shakes herself off and pads away. shane can see the exact moment it dawns on ilya.
âasshole!â he shoots up and points an accusatory finger at shaneâs face, âyou will show none of this to anya when we get home.â
his smile finally breaks and shane is practically buzzing with pent up laughter, âsheâs going to be soooo sad. so betrayed by her papa, i guess sheâll have to cuddle me tonight. sighhhh.â
âthis is parental alienation, shane!â ilya grabs for shaneâs phone but heâs just barely able to leap out of the way, âi will sue!â

My Shanecanon (my Shanon, if you will) is that the only kid over the age of 2 that Shane actually clicks with is Arthur Pike because Arthur knows how to play Legos correctly and they can sit together and build perfectly colour coded towers in complete silence while Ruby is making Ilya pretend to be a wounded horse from the Civil War
i love every version of shane going to bood's bbq in fics, and it's always so funny when they try to go "just as friends" and cannot keep up the act for the whole night. it's always good and fun and makes sense in the fic, and i always enjoy it, but it's also just funny to see when their whole deal was that they've managed to not tell anyone for a whole decade except for very select circumstances.
it makes me want a 5+1 story with 5 times shane went to a centaurs event as a "friend" of ilya's and the +1 as either him attending as ilya's partner or as a centaur himself.
the first time would be at the end of summer, right after the end of the ottawa summer camp. wyatt asks shane how long he's going to be in town for before he heads back to montreal, and he says it'll be a few more days, and hayes says bood is hosting a pre-season bbq and shane should totally swing by. he's hesitant, but the fact that it's wyatt who invites him and confirms with bood that it's cool vs him clearly tagging along with ilya that makes him risk it.
the boxing day party would probably fall as time 3 or 4? i haven't decided what the others are yet.
but through these 5 parties, shane slowly gets to know the cens and their partners, sees how different the culture is from montreal, gets to know these people ilya talks about for himself, and slowly lets his guard down.
for their part, the centaurs get to know shane as a person better and not just The Shane Hollanderâ˘ď¸and they also can't help but notice that their captain, who's always so busy on their days off, is conveniently always available if hollander is also around.
by time 5, most people have figured out that something is going on between them. everyone has pet theories about if it's serious or exclusive or new, but they're trying to tip-toe around it and not let shane or ilya know that they suspect something. it doesn't help that ilya brings anya, and she seems very familiar with shane.
it all comes to a head when wyatt, tipsier than he usually gets at these events, notices that shane is also wearing a chain tucked under his shirt. he puts a hand on shane's shoulder and says "can you just entertain me for a second here?" before hooking a finger under the chain and pulling the rest of the chain and the ring out from where it was tucked away. he looks at the ring close up for a moment before nodding, and saying "that's what i thought." he drops the ring, letting it falls back to shane's chest before saying "thanks buddy," patting him on the shoulder, and moving on like nothing happened. shane is...befuddled, but just shakes his head at his friend and also moves on. he's a little bit panicking, but he's mostly just confused. importantly, he doesn't bother to tuck the ring back into his shirt. a little bit after that, ilya and troy and maybe bood drift over to where shane is, and troy clocks the ring on the chain and says "hey, that ring looks familiar?" and bood agrees, turning to ilya and pulling the exact same move that wyatt did, bringing the chain out of ilya's shirt, showing both the cross and the ring beside it. everyone just stares at the clearly matching rings for a moment before troy says "if you try to claim you got matching friendship rings i'm going to punch you." ilya grins, mock offended, and says "i would never." by this point harris has clocked that something is going on and comes over, taking in the matching rings on display. "holy shit, is this already married or to be--?" he asks. "to be, not yet," ilya confirms. "probably this summer, maybe july," shane says, and it's the first thing he's said in several minutes. after that, for the rest of the night they mostly drop the act. no kissing or outright pda, but they don't really leave each other's sides, and they start bickering half in russian, and they openly refer to anya as theirs (shane refers to her as "our dog" while ilya calls her "our daughter"), and when they leave they don't have to pretend like they aren't leaving together, and they haven't put their rings away again for the rest of the night.
#myilya has always been chronically online and easily enamored by a good internet challenge, especially in the early 2010s. He personally participated in many with the Raiders, including but not limited to:
Planking. Everywhere
Making a music video to âLike A Bossâ by The Lonely Island in the Raiderâs training facility
ALS Ice Bucket Challenge, multiple times, always shirtless. Some of his notable nominations include a Raiderâs assistant coach, Gritty, Shane Hollander, and then-sitting Vice President Joe Biden
The cinnamon challenge (fucked up his breathing for days but refused to acknowledge any discomfort bc Russians Do Not Do This)
Ghost pepper challenge (he ended up crying, made Connors delete the video, and threatened all present to secrecy)
Chubby Bunny challenge (Marly won and posted the video himself)
Gallon of milk challenge (Marly threw up and it was decided the video was too gross to post)
Ghost pepper challenge, again (went the same as the first attempt)
Harlem Shake in the Raiders locker room, obviously
Mannequin challenge during a Raiders practice, also obviously
Meanwhile the only internet trend #myshane has ever willingly participated in was the Ice Bucket Challenge when Ilya nominated him bc it was for charity and Yuna said it would be good for his image
