The low rumble of the kettle boiling sounds just as the person shifts his broad shoulders around to face Louis, his scent hitting the omega like a hurricane wind, knocking his heart into his stomach. Cedarwood and bergamot are about as unbearably familiar as the face of the alpha he’s loved for almost two decades — his floppy curls chopped short and all the extra chub around his cheeks gone, leaving behind a defined jaw and sharp nose.

His eyes begin watering before he can stop it, voice shaking as he says, “Harry?”

Louis’ dying, he must be. His whole life with Harry is flashing in memories right before his eyes as one corner of the alpha’s lips turn up into that lopsided smile Louis has missed.

“Hi, pup,” his mellifluous and smooth voice has the omega’s body going slack. 

home for the holidays and tired of being single, Louis tells his family that he’s dating his childhood friend, Harry (the fact he’s in love with him is irrelevant). Unbeknownst to him, Harry’s the handyman who’s been helping his parents whilst he’s been at uni. So he’s left to confront the alpha and ask for his assistance. Pretending to date your best friend is easier than Louis imagined.
