AAAH THANK YOU THATS VERY HELPFUL!!! I forgot to ask one more thing also if that's okay-
How did you build up your audience to be able to charge proper amounts for commissions? I've found I really only sell when I price low and advertise mainly to friends, but I want to be able to move upward and outward. How did you do it? Thank you for answering my questions by the way!! You're very cool!
Np always happy to help~
So pricing is something that is always difficult when it comes to commissions, because I can't really say like your art is work x amount because of this, this or this reason. Obviously, it took me a while to build up to these prices as over the years my work has improved, so my prices have gone up. I actually started off with my commissions being like £20, which for anyone is far too cheap.
You have to price it at what you feel it is worth and take into account how long you work on average for that kind of illustration, how long you've been drawing, and how expensive the area you live in is. A good kinda base to start would be giving yourself a living wage of your area at the very, very least, but seeing how art is a luxury item, you can price up from that, and then take things like time, admin and skill into consideration.
Art is subjective, so no one can really tell you exactly how much it is worth, but it is definitely worth you being able to afford to live.
