Reference guide to Gender & Sexuality
Gender and sexuality are two major parts of our identity; so no matter what facet of our life it is, whether be it our social life, work-life, academic life, familial life; our sexual orientation and gender identity impacts it all.  We all have gone through adolescence and can accept the fact that it can be confusing and challenging. Think of how efficient it would be if teenagers today were educated about this in school. They wonât have to spend hours, months, years of their lives struggling with their identity. We canât leave it to chance that kids will learn on their own since not every kid has access to the internet, or that parents will teach them since most parents arenât equipped to teach on this subject.Â
Our own society can make us feel alienated when there is no awareness or acceptance of different Gender identities and Sexual orientations.Â
At least thatâs how I felt all throughout my teenage years, different and ununderstood. It took me many years to figure out that Iâm Ace, 19 to be exact, all because there isnât much awareness about this identity in my circles.
I wanted to help anyone questioning their gender or sexual identity by putting together this guide. Itâs something I wish existed and was accessible to me when I was young. Iâll be glad to know if this helps even one person.
If youâre questioning or simply curious or want to learn more to support your LGBTQIA+ folks:

Go to Resources, where,Â
Option 1 includes PDF download option for the entire guide
Option 2 includes PDF download option for Gender only
Option 3 includes PDF download option for Human Sexuality only

The Kids Are Alright!
There are some school kids on the table next to us in McDonaldâs practicing their friendâs new âthey/them' pronouns.
âIf we practice now then think how happy theyâll be on Monday at school.â

hey, it's okay if the only thing you did for pride was exist. i'm glad & grateful you are in the world. your survival is a celebration.
My friend just came out as trans and this was his name reveal party⌠enjoy :)
if youâre in a gay relationship, youâre legally obliged to call it a relgaytionship just so you know
Shoutout to the people who grew up in a house where being gay or trans was just never talked about.
Shoutout to the people whose parents support lgbt rights but never told their kids until they were in their teens or twenties because they said it was âdifficult to explain to childrenâ.
Shoutout to the people whose religious communities came out in support just a little too late.
Shoutout to everyone afraid to come out just because they know theyâll be safe physically but they donât know how everything will change socially.
Shoutout to everyone whose internalized homophobia that theyâre trying to overcome came from subtle cues and not explicit statements.
Shoutout to the in betweeners. The pain you felt is real.
why do you hate straight people
s i g h .
letâs set the record straight, shall we?Â
I donât hate straight people.Â
when I make a post criticizing a behavior of straight people thatâs unconsciously derived from privilege and heteronormativity, thatâs not the same as hating them. I would literally do the same exact thing to my friends who are LGB and cis (aka not under the T) that express transphobic beliefsâcall them out and tell them to work on their internalized bullshit.Â
here, let me make it clearer for you:Â
I donât hate straight people, but I hate it when they make gay jokes.
I donât hate straight women, but I hate it when straight women ask about the private details of gay menâs sex lives because they get off to it.
I donât hate straight men, but I hate it when they brag about being attractive enough to turn lesbians bisexual and bisexuals straight.
if I hated straight men, I wouldnât call them out on their creepy words and behaviors.Â
if I hated straight women, I wouldnât bother taking the time to explain why itâs homophobic of them to gush about their favorite âââyaoiâââ couple, and then turn around and say they donât feel comfortable sharing a locker room with lesbians because âew, what if theyâre attracted to me??âÂ
I donât hate straight people. I understand that, because theyâre born into a privilege I donât have the luxury of affording, they will be blind to most of the issues that make my life a daily struggle.Â
they are much more powerful and valuable to me as allies than enemies, and I will try my hardest to willingly engage in respectful discussions in attempts to educate them about my marginalization, because I know that any decent straight person will have enough compassion to see past just my sexuality while simultaneously acknowledging that itâs a part of me.Â
itâs not âheterophobiaâ to say Iâm sick of straight people assuming Iâll end up with a man, and itâs not âcisphobiaâ to ask cigender people to respect my gender neutral pronouns. so, donât act like my criticisms of bigoted behavior are on par with systematic oppression.if I hated them, you better believe Iâd let them be shitty.Â
thanks for coming to my ted talk â¨
