SIDE-EVENT 024 - CHUSEOK WITH GRANDMA
Chuseok for Baekhyun's family were never about family and more about how they could sell the idea of a stable, put together one. So whenever this time of the year comes around, Baek makes close to zero effort to go back home for the festivities.
This year however, there's his grandmother, Kim Sihyeon, and his grandmother has called, messaged and video-faced him multiple times in the past couple months alone prior to Chuseok demanding that he should spend this time of the year with her instead of staying in his dorm in Seoul (he doesn't tell her that he'd probably travel abroad quietly instead).
So for the very first time in what feels like decades, Baek goes back to Busan on vacation. There's no schedule to excuse him from visiting relatives or spending time with his grandma's friends. He has plenty of time to just attend to every single one of her whims.
His grandma is already an old lady. She's already in her mid-eighties and her health isn't like before. Money can buy people many things, health included, but there are limits, and upon hugging his grandma when he arrives, Baek feels that. How frail she has become.
But as soon as they get to chat, and she calls her acquaintances to see her famous grandson, Baek has to change his mind, because for all fragile disposition, this woman still commands a room like she's in the army (and he'd known been there already before). She introduces Baek to everyone, bosses him around to get them beverages, makes him cut them fruits which is thankfully something he can do, but maybe the most embarrassing part (and certainly the most fun his grandma and her friends had) was when she ordered him to perform for them. For someone who has danced and singed in multiple different venues at this point, and has been to different countries in the past 2 years, Baek feels utterly fucked when one of grandma's friends find Type Zero's discography and makes him dance to Good Boy Gone Bad and a bunch of other of their songs until they got sick of pop and decided that they wanted him to sing trot instead.
He's sure his grandma must have arranged him at least six different marriages by the taps on his shoulder and smiles sent his way by the time they all leave and he's left to clean up after the mess. And that was only the first day of his break.
haeun paused, confused. was she hearing clover's distinct meow incorrectly or was this person trying to gaslight her? but just as he was closing the door, she heard the meow again.
"clover!" she exclaimed, her hand shooting out to hold the door open. "i need my cat back. my girlfriend would kill me if i lost her." she chittered, beckoning clover over. clover, who just wanted attention, came happily for pets. haeun picked clover up but didn't part from the other's doorway.
"she's a rescue. she's always been more of an explorer, i guess cause she was used to being outside, but she is ours." she turned clover's clover-shaped tag on her collar to show both clover's name and the phone numbers etched onto it. "that's mine and my girlfriend's number."
she felt a little bad though. clover was the type of cat that everyone loved. ( duh, why else would there be a following on her art page where people genuinely only wanted clover fanart? ) and clearly this person — man, was sweet enough to care for her.
"thank you. she must really like you to just wander into your apartment. or maybe you had yummy food she wanted to eat," she says with a chuckle. "did you buy anything for her? i can reimburse you!"
Baekhyun is disheartened. Not because the cat... Clover found it's way to the door. Cats can do whatever they like when they like, he has no say in it. He was disheartened to getting caught though. Not that he's that good of an actor. He doesn't even think he sold that lie well enough to make the owner of the cat believe him, but regardless... Heart-breaking.
He was pouting levels of heart-break.
He keeps pouting even as he listen to her explanations as to why this cat isn't afraid of simply exploring other people's apartments. It changes nothing on his perception that he was very very focused in kidnapping someone else's cat just because he liked the fur baby that showed on his doorstep.
Cat distribution system or whatever people called.
He finally sighs and makes an mildly annoyed sound on the back of his throat. Baekhyun shakes his head and moves back inside, leaving the door open. "There's no need. I like spending money," he says petulantly. He grabs all the little (expensive) toys he bought and the snacks (equally expensive) and puts them all inside an old tote bag that he had laying around and extends his arm towards her. "Here take it. I don't have a pet, these things will be of no use to me whatsoever." His eyes land on the little ball of fur and he melts. "Goodbye princess. You know you're way up here, come visit whenever," he sneaks a glance to the cat's owner and clears his throat. "I'll take good care of you and give you back accordingly."

hanbin's been at it for almost an hour, but his reflection in the floor-to-ceiling mirrors doesn't show exhaustion, only determination, slick and golden under the label's gym soft, expensive lighting. he's dressed for this moment, too: black compression top clinging to every lean line of his, shorts just a little too short, socks pulled high. it's not about the workout. not really. it's about him.
baekhyun's tall enough to be a shadow cast over hanbin, all broad shoulders and lazy strength, like he didn't even have to try to get that build. hanbin wants to know if he's watching him, or at least, he hopes he is. so he arches a little deeper into his stretch, stomach pulled tight, jaw slack like he's tired, like he's sweet.
he grabs a towel, drags it slow over the back of his neck, and crosses the floor before he can lose his nerve. his grin is practiced, dimples sharp in the mirror-glare, even though his pulse is loud in his ears.
"hey," he breathes out, like they've been talking all along. he tips his chin up, "you're, like… crazy strong. i was," he pauses, catching his own reflection behind baekhyun’s in the mirror, soft pink mouth parted just so. "i was wondering if you could… maybe spot me? just for one set." it's innocent enough on the surface. but his tone is syrupy-sweet, barely clinging to the edge of polite, and the look in his eyes says exactly what he's really here for: attention.
Baek is not necessarily observant, but he has an eye for all nice things in life. He was born with a silver spoon in his mouth, grew up surrounded by everything nice that money could offer, not to mention the many great connections he got from early age simply because he was born as the son of the "right" people.
So yeah, everything is fed to him most of them. It was only when he went to military service that those things didn't mean a whole lot anymore. And when he joined LGC, his parents were too angry at him for wasting their son with the entertainment industry to pull the strings to make him an actor straight away, or even to make him debut sooner.
And now, just like every other time, Baek is presented with a banquet. He didn't notice him at first to be honest, but he's got that itch in the back of his neck. The impression that there was someone who was keeping an eye on him, and even though that's not unusual, it made him curious, so he looked around absentmindedly until his eyes landed on a cute face stealing glances every once in a while. Baek is not coy. He didn't divert his gaze even though the other seemed to be avoiding his.
It was only a matter of time until he decided to approach, and Baek made sure to make check him out from head to toe, eyes slowly going up and down with nothing but a little smirk on his lips. With such a lame but cute excuse that Baek just dusted the inexistent dusk off his shirt and turned to fully face the obviously younger man. "It would be my pleasure," he says with a smile. "What are we working out today? Quads, maybe?"
you know i wouldn't deny you anything is a crazy thing to hear from him. she's sure she's heard him say similar things over the years, but that was back when they were together and he should be saying those things. not now. not when it's been more than a year since they broke up and decided that they were not better as friends but also not good as lovers either.
it's an endless cycle, actually.
she doesn't say anything though, letting her eyes trace over his face like she's taking it in for the first time again. it's been too long since they've truly been in such close proximity, though she's not sure if they've both been actively avoiding each other or if it's their schedules keeping them apart. same old, same old.
she pushes aside the curtain before stepping into the photobooth first, noting that it's more cramped than she had really expected and she slides into the seat by the inside wall, waiting for him to join her. they're going to be really in close proximity because of this, and unfortunately, somin doesn't hate it.
"do you remember the last time we did this?" she asks, thinking of the last time they had done photobooth pictures together. it had been her lockscreen for so long, that when they broke up and she had to change it, her phone had felt foreign in her hands. she waits for him to settle in next to her, too close, before pressing the start button.
Baekhyun has been the friend who has told his friends not to go back to their exes multiple times now. 'If it didn't work before, what makes you think things will be different this time around?' type of discourse. And of course, when his relationship with Somin came to an end, he applied his own advice to his life. That was until he moved in to the same apartment building as her unknowingly, and then they were suddenly seeing each other a lot more often than they ever did on their relationship, and well, Somin isn't someone that easy to get over apparently.
Baekhyun chuckles. He does remember the last time they've done this. It was probably the only time they've been on a photobooth much like this one in all the time they were together after all. He settles right beside Somin, cramped as they are in the tiny box. It'd be a lot more comfortable if Somin was on his lap like she was the last time they did this, but circunstancies have changed... Sure. "I do remember," he says finally. "I think I've done something like this..." and in a moment of poor judgment and sense of intimacy, he reaches out to poke Somin in the cheek with a smile. Followed quickly by a light squish of her cheeks giving his ex an adorable pout that he kissed last time they did this. He might be stupid, but not to that extent. "What a cute fish, look at that."
/ photobooth
for @lgcbaekhyun
the rooftop barbecue wasn't something that she had actually been planning to attend, if she's honest. she's been exceptionally tired the last few weeks just from how many hours she's put into streaming and also into practice with her team. they had been practicing for the newest round of game changers and were really hoping to make it into finals this time.
but somin had ended up waking up around 5pm and had lazed around enough before deciding maybe she did want bbq food and tacos, and drinks or whatever. so she showered, did just enough makeup to look presentable before heading out after confirming that haru wasn't in the apartment anymore.
once she's eaten her fill, she wanders around, not quite wanting to socialize too much but not wanting to leave just yet. she glances around, having been keeping track of where people were for most of the night but having lost track of some of the ones she was keeping an eye on.
which of course, means that the moment she turns to maybe check out the photobooth, she's faced with the exact person she had been somewhat keeping tabs on to try to avoid the entire night.
baekhyun.
their history is vast, with many years and many things between them at this point, and ending up living in the same building is just the cherry on top at this point. she sighs, deciding not to prolong the inevitable and points a finger at the photobooth.
"join me?"
Baekhyun isn't the most social, has never been. So, even though there were multiple gatherings over the couple of years since he moved in, he can't exactly say he attended many of those. They usually don't serve the right type of food he needs anyway, so there was never a point.
The point this time around though, came in the form of a past love, however. A past complicated, doomed and better left in the past love. Moon Somin.
He had been nursing a cup of cider the whole night as he chatted with the people he usually only greeted on the elevator and was currently entertaining a group of old ladies who seemed so very happy to be chatting with someone that reminds them of their grandsons so much. But his eyes (nor his attention) were at if the way his eyes kept drifting towards Somin were anything to go by. He couldn't help it!
So he did what any ex would do, and excused himself from the prying eyes of the old ladies and sheepishly made him move on her direction. Thankfully (or not) he wasn't even the one to break the silence, but her request did make him rise an inquisitive brow and the beginning of a smirk start to bloom, "Well, but of course. You know I wouldn't deny you anything," he says throwing his cup in the trash and clasping his hands on his back. "Shall we, Somin?"
cat napper ༊*·˚
haeun was going to be in deep trouble with hyunhee if she didn't find clover.
hyunhee wouldn't get mad (er, actually she would but—); she would definitely get sad about the cat being lost. haeun didn't feel like seeing the other possibly cry. hell, haeun felt awful that clover got out in the first place. she might cry if she doesn't find her.
clover was a rescue. being outside wasn't anything new for her. haeun just hoped that clover didn't lose any animal instinct during her domestication. in the mean time, haeun had flyers. they were pictures of clover in different positions, as haeun usually took them for reference of her clover comics. she made sure to include the distinct white patch of fur clover had on her back. she was an all-black cat aside from the random patch of white fur. there was no way anyone could miss her.
she was on the eleventh floor of the complex, taping another lost poster of clover when she heard it. it was clover's crinkly meow. she wouldn't mistake it for any other cat. it was gravelly and high pitched. the vet said there was nothing wrong with her vocal chords, she just meowed that way.
haeun walked in the direction she was hearing the meows. thankfully, clover was feeling talkative. she must be wanting affection, by the way that she meowed. the meowing led her to apartment 1107. without considering who could possibly live in the nicer apartments on the upper floors, haeun knocked. three times.
"is someone home? please! i think my cat got into your apartment!"
will you answer @lgcbaekhyun
It's not Baekhyun fault that the cat came to see him all the time. He doesn't spend all that much time in the building, with practice and preparation taking most of his time, but at this point, he felt like the feline had already memorized his routine and decided to visit him at all the right times.
He does have a reputation, though, so even though most of the time, their encounters were quick and exclusive to the hallways of his floor, Baekhyun would like to avoid disturbing his neighbors and more importantly, he wouldn't want to be seen as someone who engages in silly things like talking to pets.
So letting the cat in was a no brainer. It was even more impressive that it stayed. And stayed and stayed. No attempts to leave his very expensive couch were made, and when he gave it snacks (that he had laying around for no ulterior motives at all since he doesn't have a cat of his own), it started meowing so high it gave him a scare. He smiled fondly anyway, making sounds and talking back at it. That's it until he heard the knock on his door and a voice invading their quiet.
It could very much be the person's pet, but so far, it always came and went as it pleased. He could just keep it's company for a little longer and then let it go later that day. With that in mind, he opened the door, "Hi. I'm sorry, I think you're mistaken. I don't have any pets and your cat is most definitely not with me. Now if you excuse me," he started closing the door, just to be betrayed by another high pitched meow.
Jaejin hadn’t meant to fall asleep on the practice room floor, but the way his body ached told him he hadn’t exactly fought it either. When he woke, the lights were dim, and his hoodie was bunched awkwardly under his head like a pillow that had given up on life. He stretched out, wincing at the crack of his shoulders, and then sat up to blink around the empty space.
Almost empty, anyway.
His bag was still in the corner, half-unzipped with a juice box peeking out like it had been waiting for him. He laughed softly, rubbing his eyes. “Even my snacks look disappointed.” The words came out scratchy, half-asleep, but it felt better to say something than sit in silence.
Pushing himself to his feet, Jaejin padded across the room and leaned against the mirror wall, hair mussed and curls sticking in too many directions to count. He knew he should pack up and head back, but instead he lingered, staring at the scuffed floor where hours of rehearsals had worn it down.
When the door creaked, he looked up, wide-eyed like he’d been caught doing something he shouldn’t. A crooked grin spread across his face before he could stop it. “Oh. Hey. I, uh… wasn’t sleeping here. Totally just… meditating. Very advanced idol stuff.”
With preparations for TZ's comeback right around the corner, Baek has made an habit of sticking longer to practice rooms as of late. When you're in a group, lacking in certain aspects becomes a little too evident, and it was never a secret that out of all the members, he lacked a little behind when it came to performance and dance.
So, of course he was around the company grounds, and of course he tried procrastinating as much as he could until he went looking for an empty room despite going to the company specifically to practice. And of course the first door he opened (because he didn't hear anything from inside to begin with) presented to him a sleeping figure with a lonely juice box not too far from the blob. Baek thought of being a little shit, but given how much work he knew most of them were having to handle, he decided to use his leader mentality and leave to find another room.
It was maybe an hour later, or maybe less? When curiosity got the best of him, and maybe also a little bit of worry. Whoever that was in the other room sleeping, if they got caught, maybe instructors wouldn't be too harsh on them, but they'd still give them a bit of earful, no? Something about wasting company resources of something, for sure. So Baek grabbed his bag and walked his way back to the still silent practice room, only this time, the blob wasn't on the floor anymore, but leaning against the mirror wall, and the blob not only had lame excuses, but also a face. "Of course you weren't sleeping, my dear fellow member," he greeted Jaejin with a scoff and walked inside. "I didn't know it was you, otherwise I wouldn't have let you sleep in like that," he only half-joked as he dropped his stuff in the corner. "Tired, Jaejin? You're well?"
HE'S A NIGHTMARE TO LIVE WITH: A LGCA PLOT CALL
hi, i'm sick again, and what we do when we're sick? exactly, we make baekhyun suffer. this is my 189744123th attempt to actually make him a living nightmare of a cold person like he was supposed to be when i first created him. will it stick this time? i highly doubt it.
baekhyun is an athlete in this world. still the son of shitty rich parents, but this time around, he didn't get injured which means he was able to pursue a career as a professional volleyball player. yes, in original timeline he was a skater, but now he's significantly taller and i'm currently basking in volleyball world cup energy. so here we have it.
baekhyun is a short-term resident. he's a very strict type of person to live around. he has a tight schedule and routine, he doesn't like too much noise or too many people for all that matter. he's almost always out of his apartment because he takes practice seriously (hey, national team after all), so when he's home, he likes to have peace and quiet. he's also an animal lover who doesn't have any animals because he doesn't have the time for it.
he's also looking for a roommate who doesn't have that much of strict schedule as he does. iseul
for plots, i have a few ideas:
i almost stole your pet [ 1/1 ] - baekhyun has no time for pets, but yours kept stopping by his door and scratching it until he allowed them in and his heart is not made of ice. of course he adores the little rascal, and he did consider just taking them in and pretending they don't have an owner. it almost worked, until you came along to fetch them back. haeun
of course you're my fan [ 1/2 ] - baekhyun is arrogant and has a bigger ego than most (which is kind of backed up by the fact that he's good at what he does), and he also happens to be very handsome and attractive, so of course he knows there are people who are his fans. how would he not have them? be serious. akio
a love that got away [ 1/1 ] - someone who he was in a relationship with for a long time but left (very much open for more discussion. just give him a lover). somin
the one person who doesn't go away even when he wants them to [ 0/1 ] - best friend plot! someone who confronts him and doesn't let him get away from his shitty behavior. calls him out and is just as annoying as he is.
lgcbaekhyun
"I've done so many things except fishing on a fake pond in a fake fair, apparently," Baek says cheekily and shakes his head disbelievingly. "I've never been to the top of the Eiffel Tower despite going to Paris a few times. Water sports I haven't done many either, like jet skiing and snorkeling or surfing. I actually do want to swim with sharks, too," though that with their schedule, Baek has no idea how he'd fit that in AND arrange time to bring Hyoseop along, too, if he so like to. Baek barks out a laugh and cocks his head to the side, "it surely is not that difficult, I think the way to go is just not overthink it," he says while trying once again and missing the loop by a scratch. He hisses. "Have you ever gone fishing? Like actually fishing, with a boat and a hat and all of that?"
“yes, how come i’ve run a marathon before but never caught fake fishes in a fake pond? it feels like a game i should’ve tried when i was a kid” hyoseop shrugged. as much as hyoseop felt a bit stupid doing this, his inner child was happy, he never got to do things like these, now adult hyoseop gets to do it. “you’ve been to paris multiple times! eh?! before joining type zero, the furthest i had gone was jeju island…”. “also what kind of way is that to end your answer? swimming with sharks? suddenly i think i might be smarter than you” probably not, hyoseop is pretty dumb.
“nope, my family was too busy running the family restaurant as a kid to do those kind of stuff” he shrugs “and when i got older my parents were too busy, and i couldn’t really figure out who to go with, if not my dad” he hums. “okay!” let’s do it, hyoseop feels energized and motivated, ready to catch that damn fish!
“ah… i failed again” he pouts.
This new information about Hyoseop gives Baek a pause and he looks up and straightens his back as he looks at him, "you've run a marathon?! Did I know that and forgot? How did I not know this about you? It's impressive," which truly was. Baek would rather be caught on his underwear than actually training and running for whatever reason. "My family has business all over and because I was little they'd take me, but that meant I'd mostly stay at hotels and not go sightseeing. The most tourist things I've done were after I joined TZ as well," he admits with a shrug. "We don't have to swim with sharks, though that would be sick! We can swim with the fish and dolphins. Did you know pink dolphins exist?"
Baek lets out a chuckle and shakes his head, "Should we go fishing then? As our first activity to fulfill what other kids had and we didn't?"
akio stares at him, dumbfounded for half a second, before dragging a hand down his face with an exasperated sigh. he doesn’t even bother wiping the bead of sweat rolling down his forehead all the way to his chin. because what’s the point? he’s already soaked, sticky, and starting to question all his life choices.
“useful and fun?” he echoes, turning slowly to give baekhyun a look in a way that’s too dramatic for it to be totally serious. “you sound like you’re filming a commercial for that bubble wrap company.” he gestures to the uneven frame of sticks and rope behind him, then to the pile of leaves that still needed to be braided. “we have, like, two hours of light left, a limited supplies, and i’m pretty sure kai hyung is planning to eat tree bark if we don’t get this done and move on to finding food.”
he pauses, narrowing his eyes slightly as more bubbles pop in baekhyun’s hands. “…are you actually enjoying this? unbelievable.” that last word is spoken in japanese under his breath.
akio then groans, picking up another bundle of rope. “you know what? fine. if we make it through the night and this shelter doesn’t collapse on us, i’ll admit the bubble wrap was a genius idea. until then, maybe put the branch down and help me braid the roof.”still, despite the words, there’s a small smile on his lips. baekhyun’s ridiculous optimism is almost comforting. almost.
Baek is many things, and he's also not a lot of the things most people expect of him, but if there's one thing he isn't is tactless. He doesn't really feel like he'd be of much help for Akio, so he steps down and offers support, but he's not going to deny that riling Akio up is kind of fun. As someone's younger brother, he knows the pros and cons of being an annoying little shit quite well, and he's proud of it.
Thankfully, also, he's a good actor, so Baek simply shrugs and offers Akio a smile, "Hey, I wouldn't say no to a new sponsor. Do you think they'd sign me up? I can clearly make strong and compelling arguments," and worst part is, Baek does sound earnest. At the mention of Baek's teammate, though, he laughs, "Wouldn't be the first time, I'm sure. Are you really the only competent soul in our team that you'll need to do everything by yourself?" and it doesn't help that Baek puts both of his hands on his hips, still holding his little branch.
"We're in a beautiful place, Akio! Despite looking quite remote and far from civilization, it's gorgeous! I like when we can get away fro Seoul, even if that's at the cost of comfort, electricity and running water," which was partially true. He likes when there's a chance to leave the polluted and quick-paced life style of Seoul, but as a rich kid, being stripped of his daily comforts was nothing that brought him joy necessarily. That's more just to be annoying.
At Akio's request, though, Baek stops and wonders if he ever had a reason to learn how to braid anything and comes completely empty-headed, "What if I tell you I don't know how to braid?" because why would he, right?
lgcbaekhyun
Baek feels the urge to tease, but to be honest, in a way, the relationship he has with Type Zero's members are probably one of the closest and long lasting ones he has had in his life in a way. As someone who has never had that many close friends, and more acquaintances, Hyoseop's words are weirdly touching. "Cheers to that," he says instead of coming up with a funny remark. "What should we do next? Anything you ever wanted to do but never had the chance to?" Maybe if someone happens to take pictures or videos of them in this moment of weakness, Baek will say that he's playing it up for the cameras. How silly of them, not being able to play a children's game. He suddenly starts blaming his parents in his head for not taking him to festivals to play it as a kid. "Alright. I'm going to play for real now. See that green one around the corner? That's my catch," and Baek enters in position and focuses on the toy. Surprisingly, this time, he's successful. He throws a fist up in the air. "See?! Easy!" and he opens his palm to high-five Hyoseop.
though hyoseop is an extrovert, he’s usually not very good at making friends, and even worse at keeping them around. he has a tendency to forget friends, and at some point, when hyoseop is never the first to reach out, people get tired of maintaining a friendship with him. the type zero members might be the people he’s closest to at the moment, they spend so much time together that it’s hard for hyoseop to forget about them, it is nice, having friends like these.
hyoseop shrugs “not sure, and you? anything you haven’t done before you wanna try?” hyoseop looks at the other, curiosity in his eyes. there’s an instant clap coming from hyoseop once the other is successful “see! this children’s game has nothing on us!”. though, after watching the other, hyoseop is still unsure about if he can be successful, doesn’t seem particularly hard, but hyoseop still isn’t sure about it.
Like actually fishing, with a boat and a hat and all of that?"
lgcbaekhyun
Baek has the decency of at least looking a little bashful as he stops for a few seconds and ponders over the question. He then pouts and shakes his head with a frown, "I don't think I've ever been to one," he says tilting his head to the side. "If I've been to one, I must have been too little to remember, but I've never seen any pictures, and quite frankly, that's not the type of place my parents would ever want to be caught at," he says honestly and shrugs. With the toy rod in both of his hands, Baek stares at the fishing pond with partial feigned seriousness. "It can't be that hard, right? Kids do this. We just have to hook them. Better yet. What if we take turns? I try once, and if I fail, you go, and vice versa?" and to demonstrate that, Baek tries to do as he said. Only that luck wasn't on his side, and maybe he has never gone fishing either, so unpracticed doesn't even begin to justify his unsuccessful attempt. "It was just a demonstration," he says flippantly, "your turn."
“this’ll be both of our first time then” he smiles to baekhyun “i hope we have many more firsts in our friendship” he’s quiet for a second before continuing “ah, that sounds a bit cheesy, doesn’t it?” hyoseop laughs. considering baekhyun and hyoseop debuted at the same time, they have had quite a lot of ”first times” together, experiencing their first comeback together, first music show together, and the list does go on and on. hyoseop doesn’t mind it, he’s rather happy about it, baekhyun has become someone he values highly, and he’s happy for their friendship.
hyoseop nods “it can’t be hard, like you said, it’s a children’s game” he shrugs, just to watch baekhyun fail moments later. “let me show you how it’s done!” he tells the other, attempting but meeting the same fate as baekhyun: he’s unsuccessful. “eh? why is it harder than it looks?” hyoseop pouts as he looks up at baekhyun “you try again, maybe we were just unlucky on our first try”.
Anything you ever wanted to do but never had the chance to?"
Maybe if someone happens to take pictures or videos of them in this moment of weakness, Baek will say that he's playing it up for the cameras. "See?! Easy!" and he opens his palm to high-five Hyoseop.
i have nothing much to say about this, i think the episodes speak for themselves… no words can truly describe the absolute insanity that akio and baek brought to thailand. first of all, i saw all of you LAUGHING at baek for choosing bubble wrap as his item but guess what???? turns out it helped insulate the roof! boy’s a genius, he just… doesn’t know. because clearly that wasn’t intentional. which makes it funnier, because akio put it on the roof like he got personally offended by it. no because that man was on a MISSION, and baek was… somewhere.
you could say one did all the work… akio was working like the head of a family trying to save his children from starvation and cold. there was literal FIRE in his eyes. he also looked five seconds away from choking baek with that rope but it only added to the tension. before haters come running yeah we’re not denying baek was kinda useless holding onto his little branch and looking at akio like a lost puppy on the brink of a mental breakdown BUT BUT BUT hear me out!!!! he was serving LOOKS (don’t pay attention to the pictures i used just trust me), and EMOTIONAL SUPPORT! akio couldn’t even pretend to be mad at him. that’s couple goals, that’s “i-hate-you-rn-but-you’re-cute-so-whatever”. make me change my mind (you won’t).
it’s honestly a miracle they made it out alive, put these guys on another variety show together NOW. we need more chaos.
[+ / -] there you go again, shipping for absolutely no reason. touch some grass OP. that being said, it was kind of entertaining. they’re lucky that shelter only needed to last for two days though. [+ / -] baek is not useless he just likes comfort! is that a crime? he contributed nothing to the camp but he did keep the guys moisturized, ever think about that? he even gave them something pretty to look at while they were working and sweating. our generous bubble wrap prince~ [+ / -] you could tell it’s not akio’s first time outdoors but it’s definitely his first time looking like he’s ready to commit a crime and bury the body in the woods… is it bad that i find it kinda sorta extremely hot?!?! the way he was glaring at baek but also trying not to smile… CINEMA.

Thinking back on it, Baek doesn't think he has ever attended a festival or a carnival for all that matter. His family wasn't big on family time, and carnivals were hardly places for a CEO and his wife to step on and grace everyone with their presence. And even as a teenager, he had never venture to those, not even to spite them, which is crazy thinking back on it. He'd love to make them angry. So, he had heard about fishing games in inflatable pools, and have seen them in dramas and movies before. But their pop-up event with Samanco might as well be the first time he had ever played with these in his 25 years old life. "This is extremely silly," he comments to Hyoseop who's circling around the poll with him. Baek has two fishing rods in his possession and hands Hyoseop one of them. "Do they get more discount if we catch more? Because I'd love to win, but is it random? How does this even work?"
carnivals weren’t really a thing in the cha family while hyoseop grew up, they were simply all too busy. they didn’t exactly have a lot of money, the money they made were from their shared restaurants, which his parents always worked at and hyoseop and his sister worked at when not in school. their family time almost always revolved around food, either eating or making it. when hyoseop’s dad moved to seoul and took hyoseop with him, he became a successful model, but by that time, hyoseop was too old to care for carnivals.
so, he’s pretty sure this is his first carnival. “have you ever been to a carnival before?” he finds himself asking baekhyun, staring into the little pond in front of them. “this feels like a children’s game, so why am i so excited?” hyoseop shakes his head, a laugh following. “i have no idea” he says as he looks up at baekhyun “your guess is as good as mine”.
"It was just a demonstration," he says flippantly, "your turn."

akio wipes the sweat from his forehead, the sticky air of phu quoc national park weighing down on him. the heat is unbearable, but there’s no time to think about that. he glances at the half-built shelter and then at baekhyun, who’s standing off to the side, looking completely lost.
they’re supposed to be building a shelter, and so far, it looks more like a pathetic pile of branches. akio clenches his jaw. his mind races with everything they’ve learned from the survival expert off-camera, but nothing seems to be coming together. they need a roof before nightfall, or… well, they wouldn’t exactly be in trouble, because the staff won’t let them be in any danger. but it’ll feel like a failure, and his competitiveness can’t accept that. not without a fight.
with a frustrated sigh, akio grabs a branch and starts to sort of weave it into the frame they managed to put together. the survival expert leans over, adjusting his work, but akio barely notices, too focused on the mess they have to fix. his eyes drift back to @lgcbaekhyun who’s currently fiddling with a branch, clearly unsure of what to do next. akio’s patience is thinning but he holds back out of respect. because baekhyun debuted before him and in this industry, that means he’s superior to him. baekhyun also picked bubble wrap as his survival item, and akio can’t decide if he wants to laugh or scream. maybe a little bit of both. it is funny, on a variety standpoint. but slightly infuriating when paired with baekhyun’s inability to actually be helpful right now. at least the helper said it would be useful as some sort of protective layer on the shelter’s roof.
grabbing the roll of bubble wrap, akio started to unroll it and drape it over the frame. it’s not ideal, but it might help insulate the roof. and every popping sound brings him closer to losing his mind. he turns to baekhyun, brows slightly furrowed, but not angry. just… curious. “so what exactly was going through your mind when you picked this as your survival item?” he says, and as if life’s mocking him, a few popping sounds resonate again. taunting him. testing him.
There are many wrong things with what is going on here and none of them are related to the fact that Baek is in the wrong here. For one, who would even propose to let him loose on a variety show when that is most definitely not his specialty? He's probably Type Zero's worst member to pick to send to shows where he has to talk. Even worse if said show sends him to somewhere far from civilization. He grew up in Busan and spent most of his adult life in Seoul. He's a city person!
So, he tries to be polite for the sake of the survival expert because looking like he doesn't get a thing of what he's saying would just make him look bad (and because he can act like he's not completely useless), but once they get to the thick of it, when it's time to put all hands on deck, Baek just... doesn't. What use would he have anyway? He had learned that if you're being a busy body that doesn't know how to help, it's much better to just stay out of the way.
He has been handing Akio branches, which on and itself seemed pretty good him personally, until Akio stopped taking than and Baek just stood there waiting for other things to do. Akio looks like he knows what he's doing. Baek will gladly leave him to do the hard work. He thinks to comment the other looks like he could use a towel to wipe the sweat or need a bottle of water, but that feels out of touch even for him, so he just smiles contentedly.
At the other's question, Baek simply shrugs. "It's plastic. Isn't it nice that I got something that is impermeable, won't dissolve in case it rains, and will help in case you feel stressed?" and just to prove his point, another group of bubbles pops. "Useful and fun," and Baek crosses his arms still holding his little branch.
