once the break up, cherry hasn’t had any interest in romance. cherry genuinely thought areum would be the one cherry would end up marrying, and she had not seen their break up coming at all. areum had been the first person cherry ever genuinely liked, areum had been cherry’s first ever girlfriend, and partner overall. three years had went by, and she expected many more years to come, but only a few months after their third year anniversary, areum broke up with her. areum left not only cherry, but her group and legacy too, and cherry hadn’t seen the other since.
it’s been a few months now, and cherry wished she had gotten over her, but she hadn’t, so any form of romance, cherry kept away.
she finds herself along haeun, since the break up, cherry rarely ever finds herself alone, if she’s alone, that means she’s alone with her thoughts too. there’s a smile on her lips, genuine or not, she’s not sure, but every smile since the break up has felt weird. “so, i’ve barely met my grandparents but--” cherry gets interrupted by a stranger, “can i have you two’s number?” he asks, “no” cherry is quick to say, but he, just stands there… not moving an inch, cherry looks confused at haeun.

haeun was the one who suggested they go out. she doesn't know all of the details or why, but cherry has been a bit out of it. haeun guessed that something must've happened that threw the other in for a loop. it wasn't horrible: cherry was still able to hang out and look like she was having a good time. but there were stolen moments just when you were expected to be distracted that cherry seems to have a far-off look. haeun recognised it: that's how she herself looked when she was lost in thought. not good thoughts, either.
so she made an effort to extend a hand to cherry, a hand that she desperately wished had been extended to herself earlier. she hangs out with cherry, takes her out and they've created a great friendship from it.
as they talk, haeun notices a man approach in her peripheral. she ignores it at first, thinking he was just passing the table but he then stops at their table and asks for cherry's number. haeun's body temperature rises as her temper does and gives him a look. "is there a reason why you're still here?" she asks, the hostility dripping from her tone. the guy ignores it, as most men do, and poses the question to cherry again.
haeun was getting really, really pissed off. "look, this is my girlfriend. she doesn't want to give you her number. we're on a date. you should leave." if only that was enough to get him to leave. it definitely wasn't. haeun spared a glance to cherry, giving her a look of 'do you want me to handle this guy' because haeun might need to make a scene if the guy stayed any longer.
