I’ve been shortlisted to top 9 for the competition! My work is currently on it’s way to London to be looked at by Arcadia! Very happy right now.
Design Feasibility
“Lingerie is my next love after clothing; I think it is what is worn underneath that really inspires a woman to feel beautiful in her clothes – that inner, secret glamour.”1 This report is to promote the redevelopment of a large retail unit in Eldon Square, Newcastle Upon Tyne, and to determine whether or not the proposal of a new generation of lingerie store, intertwined with a cocktail bar, is feasible in this location and current market. The concept and vision behind the new store is intended to change women’s views on lingerie shopping and promote a more pleasurable and personal experience. The proposed store is aimed at looking into the future of retail shopping and ways in which this can change for the better – for both the customer and the brand. The proposed development will include a lingerie department, bridal department, make up concession and cocktail bar. There will be a large emphasis on the bridal section of the store as, from experience, in the current market there is a high demand for bridal underwear but no in store stockists – meaning women have to shop online for items for their big day; instead of being fitted in a professional store. There will also be an emphasis on the cocktail bar, as this should be the drive of the whole store interior design and shopping atmosphere – creating a new shopping lifestyle for women.

Busy deciding on the final touches for my Topshop Topman design! Thoroughly enjoyed looking into graffiti and wall art and finding new artists!
Had this project just over 2 weeks and its time for the design/concept review with David Dalziel! Time with tutors is running short due to the Christmas holidays approaching so the more feedback the better!

Fashion/Design/Architecture
“Lingerie isn’t about seduction; it’s about being a woman.”1 Many people have the perception that lingerie is mainly designed to impress other people e.g. your partner – this opinion needs to be abolished and replaced with the knowledge that lingerie is to empower a woman (figure 2). The design proposal is for a Lingerie and Bridal underwear store that caters for a wider range of woman, along with a complimentary makeup workshop and a ‘ladies night’ cocktail bar. This will be located in New Eldon Square, Newcastle city centre. The proposed retail space will be designed and inspired around the cocktail bar, bar lifestyle now being known as something which is a quintessential part of urban life2, to create a new shopping atmosphere and make the whole interior feel like one and not a variety of different zones dropped into one large space.

Competition Brief is in...
Building large numbers of identical stores, ‘cookie cutting’ a design into numerous sites is the accepted way of establishing a retail brand in a new market. However, Topshop’s love of fashion and change makes it tempting to create one-off store designs, each being different from the last. So, should Topshop adopt the accepted, proven route to expansion or attempt a riskier strategy which, if it doesn’t work could significantly set back the international growth of the brand?

The last month has been a very difficult time for me personally and I’m very proud of myself for being able to finish this on time.
