In the interest of minimizing harm and improving the world in small increments for you, your neighbors and your fellow man, you should vote in local, state and federal elections. You do, in fact, have a moral imperative to vote if one candidate is running on a platform of being βtough on crimeβ and cutting social programs and the other is running on a platform of improving education and protecting the path to citizenship.
Not voting is what they want you to do. It is why there is a Twenty-fourth Amendment. It is why the Republican Party continues to attempt to put up additional barriers to voting, why fascists keep βjokingβ about repealing the Nineteenth Amendment. Voting for the lesser of two evils creates less harm than passively allowing evil to choose what path it follows. Until there is revolution, you must continue voting despite the abysmal choices. The rhetoric you spread is harmful, about how absolutely nothing would be different under a Kamala Harris presidency than under the current Trump administration, about how all candidates are equally evil and you will have blood on your hands when you cast your ballot, you are saying exactly what they want you to say.
ok so im a freshman in college and some of my professors have told us things (or had it in the syllabus) that ai is okay to use to come up with ideas for things and it says like βheres ethical ways to use ai!β and i am very very against that and i have politely voiced my opinion to the 2 professors who have asked about it and they just. do not care. but i feel disgusted that this is what my tuition is paying for and i dont know what to do about it.
One of the great things about public libraries isn't even that the books are free (though that is a great thing about them no doubt) but also the free book storage.
I don't need to own a copy of that book. My library has it. Yeah I might need to wait if someone else takes it out the same time I want it, but relatively few books are required on short notice, especially with stuff like fiction. In the meanwhile I don't have to find a place for that book or that book or that book or etc in my house. I don't have to go buy more bookshelves. I don't have to haul this fuckton of heavy books around every time I move or rearrange the furniture. I only have to own a book if I actually do need it on short notice a lot for something (in which case, a digital copy is probably more convenient anyway) or if I really really love it so much that it's worth having it in my space.
But for the most part the books live at the library, together with each other, and I can just go there any time I want one. Those are my bookshelves! Also everyone else's in the community. But still, mine too!
