Eliot made it into the bathroom and began the painful process of undressing. His clothes reeked of sweat and blood, and he longed for a shower.

But first, he needed to check his back and patch himself up. If he didn’t run out of steam before he was done, he might still manage a quick rinse.

When Eliot finally managed to shimmy the shirts away from the nasty gashes and lacerations covering his back and shoulders - courtesy of being dragged over a dirt road - he felt lightheaded, and cold sweat had started forming on his forehead.

Oh shit.

He let himself slide to the floor and sat motionless, head spinning, wounds throbbing and too miserable to do anything about it.

For the last ten-ish years, he’d holed up alone when he was hurt and vulnerable, because anything else wasn’t safe. Old habits died hard. “Believe me, Nate. That’s more than sufficient. I’ll be fine. I’ve managed with a lot less…”

“You have to dig it out,” Eliot told him bluntly.

Hardison’s eyes widened. “Oh, hell no.”

“No choice. We have to get outta here, and I can’t run” - Eliot gestured to his leg - “with that thing in there.”
