WATER WORLD - MORE COLOUR

It’s the third Water World album!

More Colour was recorded in one day at Hallam Mill, Stockport.  It should have been two days, but the first was written off after Diet Coke exploded over the mixing desk.  Sorry Patrick!

Thanks to some quick thinking and nifty mop-improv, the gang managed to spill out 9 nuggs worthy of the WW brand, written in the preceding days and mixed over the following weeks.

Slick?  Nope!  Catchy?  Yep!  Tight?  Nope!  4real?  Yep!  Have a listen over here or here.

Expect the patented Soft Drinks sound - spacious, mid-fi indie rock chooglers, tear-jerking synth arias, unexpected treble, and neighbour-bothering catchiness.  With bells on!

Seeds Of Doubt - Audible Human Repellent

We're super jazzed to be releasing the latest offering from Seeds Of Doubt.  We first met a year or so ago, since when Chris has out out a bunch of great songs, and these four continue the purple patch rather well.

Seeds Of Doubt started in 2013, with an interest in Antipodean pop (think The UV Race, The Clean, Twerps) and bands which sound like The Fall but aren’t The Fall, and in 2014, a consistent line-up found its feet in time for the recording of Audible Human Repellent.  With Chris's writing adhering to a pop sensibility, newcomers Tom (No, Satellites of Love) and Dom (Sharm El Shakes) add some dirt from their punk-leaning backgrounds, and Ashley's Bruce Foxton admiration sweetens the deal right back up. Something in this combo allows for a friendly blend of fun, worry, looseness and harshness, all living side by side - perhaps reflecting 2015 London austerity-life?

AHR was recorded by Henry Withers (Human Hair, Dignan Porch) at Sound Savers, Homerton, and follows the excellent DCP (Italian Beach Babes) and Shed Philosophy (self-released) tapes of 2014. The four songs cover gentrification guilt, pre-distressed trousers, idiots and 20-something uncertainty, with influences including Richard Hell and Free Time. We have a feeling you WON’T be repelled!!!

Seeds Of Doubt

Seeds Of Doubt are Chris (quarter pounder and chips), Tom (chicken burger and chips), Ashley (cola and small piece of bread (?) in basket) and Dom (chips and god knows what - omelette? Pizza?  Ah, of course, fish - the lemon!).

Despite having such opposing dinnertime favourites, these guys sure can play together!  What do they play?  Loose, relaxed, worried, harsh, mellow pop, equally informed by Melbourne and South London.

Soft Drinks - Choose Not To Run

Choose Not To Run was recorded by the band at home and in practice rooms in Summer 2014. Building on the quiet guitar-based pop of debut release Born To Do It, the five songs are a confident investigation of what’s possible when restraint meets noise, melody meets stop-start, and intuition meets thought. Consumer synthesiser and analogue drum machine enter the frame – because why not?

Clocking in around 12 minutes, Choose Not To Run is lean and direct. Rewind buttons exist for a reason. Soft Drinks encourages consumer choice!

Soft Drinks also encourages consumers to become producers. The band take control of the means of production with brains, instruments, computers, software and office supplies all operated in-team. The resulting music, artwork and videos are all born from the same DIY philosophy, continuing the lineage of artists such as Robert Pollard, Jason Lytle and No Age.

Concerns and interests (you decide which are which) include the increasing concentration of wealth and power in the hands of the few, Danish Coke Light, the present, macho culture, and calorie-controlled diets.
