Plus the absentees Lang Qianqiu who overslept and Yushi Guang who is living her best life and still doesn't bother showing up.

Despite giving Hua Cheng a lot of shit, I actually think post canon Xie Lian is borderline impossible to talk to for like two hundred years because he will only be talking about his husband. Like, no matter the story or situation, you are hearing about his husband. There are wife guys, and then there are wife guys, and then there is Xie Lian and his husband.

Like I just think Hua Cheng has had like 800 years of knowing he’s in love with Xie Lian so it’s more this constant background presence that everything about him is about loving his husband but he is not saying that every five seconds. Xie Lian, however, fell hard and fast and is still so delighted by it he’s telling everyone, he’s happy for the first time in centuries, and he’s telling everyone why. It’s sweet, but I know the Heavens are tired.

There is a lack of Ghost fire!Hua Cheng fics and I think that is a shame because there's a lot of character analysis potential by exploring what is arguably the most traumatic period of his life. The condition in itself (A ghost fire) is the antithesis of something he cares about in the present which is having power, and a strong reason why that need was born.

Ok ok hear me out fic idea:

Lan QianQiu and Qi Rong are married. They are happy 90% of the time. But every 20 or so years they have a massive, messy, sloppy, knock-down drag-out fight that leads to massive amounts of property damage and other-living-being damage. Qi Rong will revert back to his old ways of lurking around in caves and trying to eat babies. Tai Hua will go back to ignoring prayers to instead hunt down and kill Qi Rong. Everybody was massively concerned and stressed the first few times this happened. Now they just pretend the two are out with some sort of sickness or medical leave (not technically untrue). Guzi, now grown, acts as their tired and overworked parent/relationship counselor/message carrier/translator.

At the end of the fic, it is revealed that this fight in particular was over bathroom renovations.
