Is there a Supercat Morning Glory AU somewhere?
Is it just me or does Taylor use more first/second person pronouns in her songs than before? And less gender referencing.
10 outline techniques for writers
With this post I listed 10 outline techniques to help writes move their story from a basic idea to a complete set of arcs, plots, sequences and/or scenes. Or to simply expand whatever you have in hands right now.
If you have a vague story idea or a detailed one, this post is for you to both discover and organize. A few technique will work perfectly. A few wonât. Your mission is to find the one that works best for you. That said, I advice you to try out as many techniques as possible.
So, are you ready? Open your notebook, or your digital document, and letâs start.
1. Snowflake method: Start with a one-sentence description of the novel. Then, develop this simple phrase into a paragraph. Your next step is to write a one-page summary based on the paragraph, you can write about characters, motivations, goals, plots, options, whatever you feel like. From this point on, you can either start your book or expand the one-page summary into four pages. And, at last, four pages into a brief description of known sequences of scenes. Your goal is to make the story more and more complex as you add information, much like a forming snowflake. Â
2. Chapter by chapter: List ten to twenty chapters, give each chapter a tittle and a brief description of what should happen. Then, break each chapter into three to five basic sequences of scenes. Give each sequence a title, a brief description and a short list of possibilities (possibilities of dialogues, scenarios, outcomes, moods, feelings⌠just play around with possibilities). From this point on, you can either create the scenes of sequences with a one-sentence description for each or jump straight to writing. Your goal is to shift from the big picture to a detail-oriented point of view.
3. Script: This might sound crazy, but, with this technique, you will write the screenplay of your story as if itâs a movie. No strings attached to creative writing, just plain actions and dialogues with basic information. Writing a script will take time, maybe months, but it will also enlighten your project like no other technique. Your goal is to create a cinematic view of your story. How to write a script here.Â
4. Free writing: No rules, no format, no step, just grab a pen or prepare your fingers to write down whatever idea that comes up. Think of possibilities, characters, places, quests, journeys, evolutions, symbolisms, fears, good moments, bad moments, clothing, appearances. Complete five to ten pages. Or even more. The more you write, the more you will unravel. You can even doodle, or paste images. Your mission is to explore freely.
5. Tag: This technique is ideal if you have just a vague idea of the story. Start by listing ten to fifteen tags related to the story. Under each tag, create possible plots. And, under each plot, create possible scenes. Grab a red felt pen and circle plots and scenes that sparkle your interest.
6. Â Eight-point arc: With this technique you will divide your story into eight stages. They are Stasis, Trigger, Quest, Surprise, Critical Choice, Climax, Reversal and Resolution. The Stasis is the every-day-life of your main character. Trigger is an event that will change the every-day-life of your character (for better or for worse). Quest is a period of your main characters trying to find a new balance, a new every-day-life (because we all love a good routine). Surprise will take your character away from their new found every-day-life. Critical Choice is a point of no return, a dilemma, your character will have to make the hardest decision out of two outcomes, both equally important. Climax is the critical choice put to practice. Reversal is the consequence of the climax, or how the characters evolved. Resolution is the return to a new (or old) every-day-life, a (maybe everlasting) balance.
7. Reverse: Write down a description of how your story ends, what happens to your characters and to those around them. Make it as detailed as possible. Then, move up to the climax, write a short scenario for the highest point of your story. From there, build all the way back to the beginning.Â
8. Zigzag: Draw a zigzag with as many up and downs as you want. Every up represents your main character moving closer to their goal. Every down represents your main character moving further from their goal. Fill in your zigzag with sequences that will take your character closer and farther from the goal.
9. Listing: The focus of this technique is exploring new ideas when your story feels empty, short or stagnated. Youâll, basically make lists. Make a long list of plot ideas. Make another list of places and settings. Make a list of elements. And a list of possible characters. Maybe a list of book titles. Or a list of interesting scenes. A list of bad things that could happen inside this universe. A list of good things. A list of symbolism. A list of visual inspiration. A list of absurd ideas youâll probably never use. Then, gather all this material and circle the good items. Try to organize them into a timeline.
10. Character-driven: Create a character. Donât worry about anything else. Just think of a character, their appearance and style. Give them a name. Give them a basic personality. Give them a backstory. Develop their personality based on the backstory. Now, give this character a story that mirrors their backstory (maybe a way to overcome the past, or to grow, or to revenge, or to restore). Based on your characterâs personality, come up with a few scenes to drive their story from beginning to end. Now, do the same thing for the antagonist and secondary characters.
So, when is it time to stop outlining and start writing?
This is your call. Some writers need as many details as they can get, some need just an basic plot to use as a North. Just remember, an outline is not a strict format, you can and you will improvise along the way. The most important is being comfortable with your story, exploring new ideas, expanding old concepts and, maybe, changing your mind many times. Thereâs no right or wrong, just follow your intuition. Â
likeâŚâŚ..i appreciate the jessica jones production crew are (mostly) women i.e. directors, writers, concept artists, and that the show deals heavily with the impact of abuse (psychological, sexual, substance) on female agency and has a dedication to writing complex characters who arenât necessarily likeable. these are all good things, but at the end of the day there is still something inherently white feministy about it in the sense that the women in focus in jessica jones are all white middle/upper class.Â
last year gabrielle union drew attention to the idea of âperfect victimsâ in the wake of hollywoodâs reckoning and the #metoo movement, explaining she and many other black women and women of colour have spoken out against rape culture in hollywood prior but it was really only when hollywoodâs white royalty began speaking out that the issue gained traction and was prioritised.
THATS how jessica jones has always come off to me, like the reason why her circumstance is especially tragic is that sheâs meant to be privileged because by all societal standards she is. iâm not saying that white women donât experience abuse (they do), but the way they experience it and the way society treats that experience is very different to the way women of colour experience abuse. yet, jessica jones is heralded as this revolutionary female-centric show when centring white women in conversations about misogyny and abuse really isnât new and in no way revolutionary.
and then thereâs the way the show treats black men. i mean, one of the central subplots of the first season was that luke cage, a dark-skinned black man, was removed of all agency because he was being controlled by a white manâŚlike, that was a central plot. malcolm, now jessâ associate isnât much better off. a recovering drug addict, (also once controlled by killgrave, a white man), now answers and works for jess, a white woman (without pay for the most part) as her subordinate. just think about that. finally, our other recurring character of colour, pryce cheng, who is framed as a threat from the word go, fitting with netflixâs marvel showsâ tendency to villainise south/east asians (see: the defenders, daredevil). like the show expects me, and other women of colour, to feel so empowered by white women running around beating up men and men of colour that weâre meant to ignore the casual racialised violence and characterisation? get a grip. there ainât even any reoccurring women of colour in this show after TWO SEASONS!! also, the only latina woman is a homeless addict ???
bottom line? jessica jones may centre women but its intersectionality? non-existent and iâm over it being heralded as this feminist icon of a show
It might be me but while watching JJ 2 characters are just the characters themselves to me. The show didnât make me feel that any character did what they did because of their race/gender/sexuality etc. I am often very critical when it comes to intersectionality but I actually think this show did well.Â

5 Scarletwidow (Wanda/Natasha) Fic Recs
In this Wanda Maximoff/Natasha Romanoff (MCU) femslash fanfiction recommendation I have collected five Scarletwidow (also Wandanat) in-universe / canon divergent stories. I did not include real AUs (Alternate Universe stories), which I might come back to separately - although there is one Soulmate but otherwise in-universe story.
Considering that they have a couple of things in common and share bite a bit of screen time in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), one would think that this would be a more popular ship. However there are not that many true Natasha / Wanda stories and even less long stories. Compared to the two MCU ships I did before, there are less and less good stories than Blackpepper and Blackhill stories.
What is more, the AO3 tag is nearly useless as most stories (ca 180 as of writing this) either only have them as a background pair to one or several m/m pairs, or do not ship Natasha and Wanda at all.
This collection features my two favorite Wanda/Natasha stories and three runner ups

Wanda and Natasha make a list of five things they have never done and always wanted to do. (post-Age of Ultron/pre-Civil War.)
The 5 things list is done nicely and very romantic. There is a bit of hurt/comfort, but no major angst (and no action), and a hot sex scene at the end. This well written story is my favorite Wanda/Natasha fic.

7 Black Pepper Fics - Femslash Fanfiction Recommendations
Black Pepper is the most common pairing name for the ship Pepper Potts/Natasha Romanoff (Black Widow). As this is unfortunately a relatively rare paring, there is not a lot long format fic. Apart from high school AU, that I still do not feel like reading, I have read all longer Black Pepper fic that I could find. This post includes all the ones that I can recommend.
Unsurprisingly a lot of Black Pepper stories are centered around the events of Iron Man 2, the movie that introduced Black Widow to the MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe).
If you want to know more about My f/f Fanfiction Recommendations follow this link and if you want to see all of them, then follow this link.
For Mini Pepper Potts Week and thanks to @effiestrinkets for the Ask.
We start with my three favorite Black Pepper stories.
Adagio
Author:Lurkz
Link to fic: AO3 (Attention: This fic is ârestrictedâ, this means you need to be logged in to AO3 to access it)
Setting: MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe) AU-ish (a bit Alternate Universe)
Relationship: Pepper Potts/Natasha Romanoff (f/f)
14 Chapters, 32k words (completed)
Published: 2012
It was supposed to be just an assignment. Falling for the person she was supposed to protect wasnât really in the plan. But when do plans ever stay the same?
Some time after the events of Iron Man 2, Natasha gets the assignment to be Pepperâs bodyguard. The become friends and even after the end of her assignment Natasha never stops caring for Pepper.
This is the longest Black Pepper story and it is one of my favorites. It was also one of the first Black Pepper stories that I read and for me it fully proved, that Black Pepper as a pairing works. The is some action, but most of the story focuses on their romantic relationship.

me: alright, neat, neat concept, but communication is actually a two-way street so
myself: they have no desire to speak to you and never have any desire to speak to you, ever. they never think of you. they will never think of you, at all, ever, even in passing. you are nothing.
me, tossing my phone out the window: alright! neat! awesome! fantastic!
Every time I see this photo I canât help but think that this would have been what it would have looked like if Kara would have made it to Earth on time.
Especially since Helen Slater was the original Supergirl thereâs just so many layers that I want to explore here.

I love this "grow up fast so we can grow old together" arc.
Supercat: "I want to do with you what spring does with cherry trees."
Sorry for taking a little while! Finals week. Boo. But I got very excited at seeing this because Pablo Neruda.
âOne more game!â Carter begged, though his eyes were crinkled with sleep.
Kara smiled at his insistence, but shook her head. âIt takes, like, an hour, buddy. Thereâs no way we can play another game before one of us falls asleep.â
Carter shrugged as if the late hour did not matter, but his yawn and sheepish grin gave him away. âPromise youâll come over again and play another game?â
âIf your mom lets me,â Kara said, returning his grin. It was as close to a promise as she was willing to offer, given how long it had been since sheâd last seen him. Carter was half-a-head taller than when sheâd last seen him. His height must come from his fatherâs side, Kara mused.
Satisfied with her answer, Carter began to collect the various cards and place them neatly back in the Settlers of Catan box. Kara helped by clearing the empty bowls of ice cream and rinsing them out in the sink, chuckling each time she heard Carter yawn. He was nearly old enough to stay home all on his ownâmight have even been allowed to if Cat planned on returning before one in the morningâbut since Ella needed the night off, Kara had been called in.
âNeed anything else before you go to bed?â Kara asked once the sink was empty.
Carterâs head bobbed up and down with the heaviness of sleep. âNah, Iâm good. Thanks Kara. Night.â
âGood night!â Kara watched fondly as Carter retreated down the hall to his bedroom. Cat hadnât explicitly stated what time he needed to be in bed, but midnight probably wouldnât have been the answer. With any luck, Carter wouldnât rat her out to Cat, and sheâd have another opportunity to stay over.
A part of Kara wished Cat was with them, too, but simultaneously, if Cat were home, there would be no reason for Kara to be there. It had been too long since sheâd last seen the media mogul. Kara was flattered to know that she was still trusted in the Grant household, despite the lapse in time.
Without Carter to occupy her attention, Kara wandered through the living room, stopping in front of the bookshelf. The television might keep Carter awake, and the last thing Kara wanted was for him to still be awake when Cat came home.
As expected, Catâs library was filled with only the highest quality of literature. Kara recognized many of the titles from the last time sheâd been there. Kara wondered whether or not Cat had read all of them. She didnât seem to have the time, but Kara wouldnât be surprised if Cat could quote from each and every one of them.
Karaâs fingers stopped over the leathery spine of a thin book. Pablo Neruda was spelled out in glittering gold cursive, beautiful and elegant. Carefully, Kara slid it from the bookshelf and brought it with her to the couch. Each poem had the original Spanish text on one side, with the English translation on the other.
Time passed quickly while Kara was trapped in the world of love that Neruda created through the breathtaking craftsmanship of sentences and stanzas. Several times, Kara found her heart hurting at the beauty and pain which he dedicated to nameless women on the pages.
The sound of a key in the lock snapped Kara out of her immersion in literature, and she quickly placed the book down on the coffee table, straightening her outfit before Catâs entrance.
When Cat stepped into the room, Kara tried not to stare with too much intensity. You occupy everything, you occupy everything, Pablo Nerudaâs words sang out to her.
âHow was Carter?â Cat asked, hanging her coat and bag by the door before striding across the room towards Kara.
âHe was great.â
âHe always is,â Cat said with a smile full of maternal pride. Her eyes flickered down to the book on the coffee table. âTwenty Love Poems?â
Kara shifted awkwardly, unsure whether sheâd accidentally intruded on Catâs personal things or not. It wasnât as if sheâd treaded into Catâs bedroom, but the way Cat was looking at her made Kara think she might as well have.
âWhat did you think of it?â Cat asked instead.
âI-itâs beautiful,â Kara stuttered. It was an honest, if simple answer.
âIt was my favorite,â Cat said. âHe had a beautiful mind. All politicians ought to study poetry.â
Kara smiled softly at the comment. âYeah, youâre right.â
âThank you. For watching Carter,â Cat added the second part as if it had not been clear.
âAny time, really,â Kara insisted, her eyes flickering back and forth between Cat and the collection of poetry on the table.
âWould you like to borrow it?â Cat asked with a smirk, noticing Karaâs divided attention.
Kara blushed. âOh, I couldnât really-â
âYes, you can. Iâll get it back the next time I see you.â Cat waved her off dismissively. She picked the book up and Kara tried to ignore the hot rush that went through her as Catâs skin brushed her own.
âNext time,â Kara repeated softly. âThank you.â
Outside, after a somewhat awkward goodbye, Kara anxiously flipped open the book to find the poem that Cat had mentioned.
Every day you play with the light of the universe.Subtle visitor, you arrive in the flower and the water,You are more than this white head that I hold tightlyas a bunch of flowers, every day, between my hands. You are like nobody since I love you.Let me spread you out among yellow garlands.Who writes your name in letters of smoke among the stars of the south?Oh let me remember you as you were before you existed.Suddenly the wind howls and bangs at my shut window. The sky is a net crammed with shadowy fish. Here all the winds let go sooner or later, all of them. The rain takes off her clothes. The birds go by, fleeing. The wind. Â The wind.I alone can contend against the power of men.The storm whirls dark leavesand turns loose all the boats that were moored last night to the sky.You are here. Â Oh, you do not run away. You will answer me to the last cry.Curl round me as though you were frightened.Even so, a strange shadow once ran through your eyes. Now, now too, little one, you bring me honeysuckle, and even your breasts smell of it.While the sad wind goes slaughtering butterfliesI love you, and my happiness bites the plum of your mouth. How you must have suffered getting accustomed to me,my savage, solitary soul, my name that sends them all running. So many times we have seen the morning star burn, kissing our eyes, and over our heads the grey light unwinds in turning fans.My words rained over you, stroking you.A long time I have loved the sunned mother-of-pearl of your body.Until I even believe that you own the universe.I will bring you happy flowers from the mountains, bluebells, dark hazels, and rustic baskets of kisses.I want to do with you what spring does with the cherry trees.
This is beautiful and sweet! Thank you for writing it:))
